Omigod omigod omigod Paterson’s maybe going to go with Marquise Kennedy-Schlossberg…

Oh, the fun we're going to have!

I don’t know what wonderful thing I did in a previous lifetime to deserve this gift, but I’m hardly going to pass it up:

Governor may be leaning toward Kennedy

Two people close to Paterson tell AP they believe she’ll be his choice

ALBANY, N.Y. – Officials say the daughter of the late President John F. Kennedy will be the governor’s choice to fill the New York Senate seat being vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Two people close to Gov. David Paterson tell The Associated Press they believe Caroline Kennedy will be his choice, but the governor cautions he’s still looking.

Allahpundit’s being gloomy about it, but he does that. This is great. Two years of the Marquise! Two years of inarticulate, fumbling blathering while New York reels from the fallout of the Wall Street collapse; two years of constant reinforcement of the reality that this person was picked solely for her willingness to use her maiden name on behalf of the incoming President; two years of inexperience combined with entitlement to produce a tasty incompetence pie. And I’ll bet that she’ll want to actually run for the office in 2010, too.

So please, Governor Paterson. If you won’t give Bill Clinton the seat, give it to her. Please.

Please.

Moe Lane

She’s assuredly working on that already.

In the meantime between now and the 2010 election, she’ll minimize her public exposure. When she does speak publicly, it will be in controlled venues or to friendly reporters. No Bill O’Reilley for Caroline.

(Although, I may be wrong about that. Bill often goes sott on controversial guests….I’m not sure why. Maybe that’s the only way they’ll agree to come on his show, or maybe that’s his way of demonstrating that he’s his own man, beholden to no one political faction. OR…maybe it’s his way of showing mercy, as good kings are wont to do.)

Caroline has two years to make herself acceptable to enough New Yorkers to get reelected in 2010. She’s oot enough supporters in the NY MSM to stay safely hidden.

  • janis

So we get all kinds of benefits if she’s the pick.

  • E Pluribus Unum

Although until this week I never considered her a friend at all.

  • red_oakster

Kennedy starts out as a dipsy Manhattan socialite running against a blue collar Republican with strength in Long Island.

That’s about the best matchup we can hope for in New York.

  • smagar

I remember lots of liberals worldwide fuming that NC repeatedly reelected Jesse Helms. Well…it wasn’t Davos Man/Woman’s call—Tarheels got to make that call.

If Empire Staters decide they want to continue supportin a royal family, they have every right to de facto cede one of their Senate seats to the Kennedys. As Delaware has done for the Bidens.

about this pick. On one hand she will likely be a liability in terms of her lack of experience and the persistent griping that she was gifted the seat because of her pedigree. On the other hand the double standard of those in the press that claim she is qualified while Sarah Palin was unqualified drives me nuts. However, if we can continue to make an issue of this double standard maybe we can continue to drive the MSM out of business.
If Biden gets his son in his seat then I think the GOP needs to work hard on making the Dems look like a bunch of wannabe Lords and Ladies deciding whom to bequeath their honorary Senate seats.

  • janis

    “Freak” or “fool” or “fungus”?

  • Swamp_Yankee

… governement of the beaurocrats, by the beaurocrats and for the beaurocrats.

The anti- democratic Democratic Party. My test for the new RNC chair is simple. Its about message and message control. If you cant organize the troops to beat the Democrats over the head with this unholy triumverate that is symbolic of Democratic elitism, corruption and nepotism then you fail.

  • DerKrieger

just in case it wasn’t clear.

    Republican mantra for 2010

    Bill Clinton is first choice

spending is increasing. The outlook is gloomy to downright horrible for the next few years. Caroline is a true rookie, and an inarticulate one at that. She sets up Rep. King for a good run at the seat. King’s no conservative, but he’s the best we can hope for in the short term for Senator.
How Patterson handles the economic crisis will determine if we get a shot at Gov. He has some rational streaks, seemingly to fight against tax increases – knowing that businesses and the middle class will flee. But his party will not put up with cut backs to larded up govt programs, and I doubt he has the influence to sway the legislature.

We could end up tipping the state legislature (at least the Senate) back to our side, and gaining a US Senate seat and Gov are possible.

I’m still looking at leaving in the near future. Better to leave now before the whole thing caves in on itself. Taxes are getting crazy.

  • Rod_Patrick

This is ironic but why not Caroline? Let the Dems self-destruct.

If I were Paterson, I would invite Neil Diamond to sing Sweet Caroline while Paterson’s making up his mind.

  • SeriousLaff

I mean, she used to be so cute!

  • garhow

“Two years of inarticulate, fumbling blathering”

Sounds amazingly like Sarah Palin. Why was she picked exactly? How soon we forget.

  • IJB

We’re all going to enjoy seeing your kind squirm.

And no amount dodging is going to help you.

Blago? Burris? Kennedy? Patterson? Biden? Obama?

Face it, bub – you bought those guys. You *own* them.
And we’ll own you for it.

    Have fun, sport!

  • garhow

How can you say Sarah Palin is qualified and Caroline isn’t? Whose double standard does that reflect? I’m not saying either one is qualified. Seems to me they are both unqualified and anyone who claims that one is qualified and the other isn’t is guilty of a double standard.

  • janis

Sarah Palin, when allowed to be herself, was bright, articulate and accurate. She is also a woman who has solid achievements on her record, unlike the Little Princess.

We know why we still choose Sarah as one of our own. Why exactly is it that your side chooses Caroline? Oh, right, because of her name.

  • NightTwister

Especially after going back home after her ticket lost.

One could be excused for thinking these people are really worried about a comeback.

  • garhow

I bought those guys? You gleaned all that from my post and now you’re going to “own me for it”? LOL again.

  • NightTwister
  • Aaron Gardner

I can name 3 off the top of my head for Palin, and I don’t even live in Alaska.

Nice try, but you still fail.

  • jfahy

Then Moe, you take her. I’m with Allahpundit on this one. We both have to live with a brain dead socialite in the Senate. Though one would be hard pressed to pick her out of crowd of say, 100?

  • garhow

Who says I chose Caroline? Did I say that? Anyone who questions the sanctity of Palin is some kind of pariah that is on some other side of something or other? She wasn’t allowed to be herself? Exactly who was that trying to answer the question about which newspapers she reads? Did someone tell her not to answer that question if asked?

Actually, people choosing up sides and villifying those on the “other side” is the biggest problem facing this country right now.

  • NightTwister

I mean, totally, like, for real I just want to thank, you know, our Governor, for like, totally picking me for this Senate thing.

  • Aaron Gardner

I would say that people who are to stupid to see a difference between Caroline Kennedy and Sarah Palin’s qualifications, or lack there of in Caroline’s case, are the biggest problem facing this country right now.

  • DavidSage

There really isn’t a more beatable Democrat that could run for this Senate seat than Caroline (except maybe Patterson). If she gets the nod, she will run for the actual election, and most likely win her primary. Democrats are such suckers for the Kennedy name.

A moderate Republican like Peter King has an excellent chance at knocking off Caroline, even in a deep-blue state like New York. My guess is being a Democrat will be radioactive in 2010.

  • garhow

You either believe Palin was qualified or you’re stupid. Not everyone on the right was a Sarah disciple. I guess we’re just stupid.

  • Aaron Gardner

One could objectively conclude that Sarah Palin was not ready to be the VP, that is fine.

Where you go off the deep end is trying to equate Palin to Kennedy as you did up thread, that was down right imbecilic.

Sarah Palin has been on the Oil and Gas Commission in Alaska, she has been a mayor, and she has been a Governor.

    Kennedy has been a Kennedy.

This is why you are stupid.

Now stop running with scissors before you hurt someone.

  • George Claghorn

    Go back to DKos.

  • USNJIMRET

The current rumor from the Denver papers is that our outgoing first term Senator, picked by Mr Obama to be Sec of the Interior, will be replaced by the former Chief of Staff to Denver’s Mayor, currently serving as Denver Schools boss.
So we, Colorado get TWO brand new Senators this time around. Although Udall has years in the House.
Kennedy at least has a name, our potential new guy Bennett is unknown outside Denver, and not all that well loved even there.

  • Tbone

If you think sarakh palin is inarticlate you must think Obama, Biden and Kennedy are just north of verbal.

Rhetorical question: even if you haven’t, you’ve been cut off.

Amazing how they can’t help themselves when it comes to going after conservative women, isn’t it? Ten bucks says he has the drawing of her getting punched tucked away in his hard drive.

  • janis

The one you posted about Bristol Palin was particularly offensive. Your record here is turning out to be more and more that of a troll.

  • Moe Lane

    Heck, you can have both.

  • kchand

A Senate with Princess Caroline KENNEDY (schloppyburger) and AL Franken. Don’t forget the returning Dim crooks like Dodd.

CSPAN2 will be the new Comedy Central.

    Much obliged.

  • zuiko

FTR, I think anybody is qualified for the Senate, given the people (Democrats mostly) who have blazed the trail on lack of qualification. All you need is a fat checkbook or the ability to raise massive amounts of money and you are perfectly qualified for the Senate.

  • itrytobenice

Don’t say anything to screw this up. We’re stuck with a liberal democrat in that seat one way or another. I’d much rather have an inarticulate, inexperienced newbie than a well practiced hatchet man.

Plus, how hard is it going to be on Chuckie Schumer to race to the cameras, just to find them focused on Princess Caroline?

  • zuiko

We are talking about NY here, after all. It’s either gonna be one Democrat voting the party line or another Democrat voting the party line. Don’t see much difference who he appoints. Kennedy would just provide better entertainment.

  • janis

his prime position in front of the cameras. On second thought, he could use Caroline as his ventriloquist’s dummy. It will be the first time you’ve ever seen an act where the ventriloquist does all the talking while the dummy just sits there moving her mouth.

  • smagar

I seriously doubt Caroline will face a hostile questioner until the 2010 campaign. In between now and then, expect her to do only scripted press events with friendly media. Live appearances? Surely you jest.

And, as for the 2010 election debates, she’ll expect her MSM cohorts—who will, of course, be the debate moderators—to softpedal things for her.
