“Cry “Havoc!” – and let slip the dogs of war.”
The vote by the House was 114-1 and marks the first time in the state’s 190-year history that a governor has been impeached, despite Illinois’ longstanding reputation for political corruption.
[snip]
A Blagojevich spokesman said the governor will not resign. A 2 p.m. news conference with the governor is scheduled for the James R. Thompson Center in downtown Chicago.
Allahpundit can’t wait for the press conference (remember, that’s 2 PM CST), and neither can I. Although at this point the fact that the meme has been well and truly set that Illinois politics is a wretched hive of scum and villainy has seriously upped the ante on how this story could get any better. As I’ve noted privately, we’re at the point where we’d need flaming chainsaws to increase the Awesomeness of it all…
Let me go get a match, then.

No doubt, the one No vote was going to lose bribe money if Blago goes away.

Whoo Hoo!!!! I'm getting a new governor!
Brian Hibbert (Diary) Friday, January 9th at 1:20PM EST (link)I know most Senate actions are SLOW, but this time I don’t think it will take long to follow through. Even the Democrats don’t like Blago and none of them want to be seen as defending him.
I suspect Rep. Patterson will have to answer for supporting Blago in the next election. Too bad it’s 2 years away…..

Haha - not according to the Governor

I bet the soon-to-be-sworn-in-leader-of-the-free-world and team was just thrilled to hear that.
I heard he blessed himself as he ran of on his morning jog too.
Yeah Gordon – “What a maroon” is right.

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.
It's reported he went jogging...

Yeah, so?
iitb Friday, January 9th at 1:56PM EST (link)Impeachment doesn’t really excite me; it’s the second phase determining removal from office that’s noteworthy. There’s always the possibility that it could end up like Clinton’s impeachment. Granted, that would be a serious indictment of Illinois politics, but still…
It only happened because it was tainting The One
itrytobenice (Diary) Friday, January 9th at 2:24PM EST (link)How many governors (and others) in IL politics have been dirty as pigs? Virtually all of them. How many have been impeached or removed other than by conviction? None. This one was getting his funk on Big O, so he had to go.
IL is a cesspool. Or at least there is so much manure in Chicago and Springfield to stink up the whole state.

I'm loving this
JustLeaveMeAlone (Diary) Friday, January 9th at 3:50PM EST (link)Yanno, if I were Blago, I wouldn’t resign either.
Arrested isn’t indicted.
Indicted isn’t convicted.
If this guy really is The Wizard of Oz, with favors and chits out with everyone, it seems no one is paying up. So why not dig in his heels and make all the ungrateful sum******es as uncomfy as possible as long as possible?
And who knows — maybe they’ll fail to convict him. The longer it drags on, the more the evidence degrades.
What does Blago have to lose?
Dang, I need more popcorn.

Let him in office for as long as possible
Scope (Diary) Friday, January 9th at 4:00PM EST (link)the longer the story goes on, the more bad press comes out about Chicago Thuggery politics, right where our new pres. steeped in the corruption.
Let poor Blago alone
Scope (Diary) Friday, January 9th at 3:56PM EST (link)He just said he was doing it (stealing) for the people.
Burris seems to be in a bit of hot water also- He donated 15 grand to Blago’s campaign, in exchange got 300 grand to find some minority contractors to work on the infrastructure project.
And, if he’s going down, he’s trying to take Emmanuel with him with his statement on the presser a little bit ago. Rhambo gave him some kind of advice on pharmasecutical purchases, but he made sure he got his name out there.
Holy crap, this gets better every day. I hope it doesn’t end until it gets all the way up to Nobama.
Just for giggles, let's all do this
JustLeaveMeAlone (Diary) Friday, January 9th at 4:01PM EST (link)Let’s help a brother out. Poor Roland Burris needs a pesky signature from the IL SecState to make Harry Reid happy.
But Mr White isn’t being cooperative.
However, accordiing to the ruling of the IL Supremes, there is another way to get that state seal on the guv’s appointment, just to make Harry happy.
And we all want Harry happy, yes?
So, we can all request a copy of the appointment from the IL SecState and he must provide it. We can then forward all those copies, with the state seal, to Harry.
http://www.state.il.us/COURT/Opinions/SupremeCourt/2009/January/107816.pdf
See the following, on the top of page 9:
“There is one final point we feel constrained to mention. While the Secretary of State has no duty under Illinois law to sign and affix the state seal to the certificate of appointment issued by the Governor, he does have a duty under section 5(4) of the Secretary of State Act (15 ILCS 305/5(4) (West 2006)) ‘to give any person requiring the same paying the lawful fees therefor, a copy of any law, act, resolution, record or paper in his office, and attach thereto his certificate, under the seal of the state.’
“The registration of the appointment of Mr. Burris made by the Secretary of State is a “record or paper” within the meaning of this statute. A copy of it is available from the Secretary of State to anyone who requests it. For payment of the normal fee charged by the Secretary of State in accordance with this statute, Petitioners could obtain a certified copy bearing the state’s seal. Because such relief is possible, no order by this court is necessary or appropriate.”

Blogo impeached. Lots of luck getting rid
olsmithie (Diary) Friday, January 9th at 4:02PM EST (link)of him.
The MSM would have you believe that Blogo is impeached for only selling the anointed one’s seat, while that seems to be just a piece of the laundry list.
He fired a warning shot in his press conference today mentioning Rahm Emmanuel by name. There are many names to come out in a public proceeding. This process is much harder to do behind closed doors than the Clinton joke trial, due to Illinois rules.
Personally I abhor Blogos morals and politics, but he may have a future in entertainment, I am enjoying watching him make the snakes in the pit squirm.
