Go down swinging, Rod Blagojevich.

"And if it means I have to sacrifice myself to a higher cause, for the people of Illinois and for the principle of due process and the right to call witnesses, then so be it,"

For great justice.

CHICAGO — Illinois’ embattled but defiant governor, so fond of reciting poetry as he defends himself against federal corruption allegations, has turned instead to the history books to describe the emotional strain his arrest put on him and his family.

In an interview Thursday with The Associated Press, Gov. Rod Blagojevich compared his early morning December arrest by FBI agents to Japan’s 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.

He says it was a “complete surprise” but he’ll prevail, just like America in World War II.

Ed Morrissey is being a spoilsport about this: he couldn’t decide between “complete embarrassment” and “complete ghoul,” and goes with both. Which is… true, but at this point the only thing left for Blagojevich is to put on his morbid street theater as the lions circle ever closer.

OK, that’s a thoroughly mixed metaphor, but you get the drift. This gets in full swing on Monday, so get ready. And, remember: there are no good guys in this impeachment. Blagojevich is pond scum, and Illinois Senate Democrats are collectively incompetent pond scum; so this is one time where every goofup on both sides of the contest is going to be exceptionally karmic. Don’t be shy about rooting for injuries.

He’s not bowing to any of the internal pressure to resign.

Which has me happy as a clam.

He won’t go down easily. To me it appears he is threatening fellow democrats. He wants to drag a lot of people down with him. I am sure Rhambo and Obama are very nervous. This is great.

the couple of tiny little seeds of truth (challenges/points) he has may never grow as they are so far buried within mounds of MANURE, dirt, and way too much watering!

He is barely right when he says he cannot allow this to stand as it clears the road for the removal of any unpopular Governor by reducing Impeachment to nothing more than Parliamentary procedure…. drowned out by all his other BS…..

That he should be allowed to bring in others for his Defense (well, he can go in for his own Defense, and they could/should have waited until Criminal proceedings would have him convicted then he could easily be removed, etc….) again, lost in all the other BS trying to throw every and any (including Kitchen sink) arguments/red-herrings at the situation…….

He is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT that they want him out for Political expedience, so as to not have a weakened Governor up for Election (or do you IL folks have a 2 term Gov limit? – if so, just that it weakens the Democrat position with continued Pay-To-Play accusations swirling around every other Democrat) by then….. Thought on life-support struggling for oxygen, buried alive and smothered under the 6′ of dirt……

If Blago wants my respect, he’s going to need to take *everyone* from IL with him (including Burris and Obama).

He does that, and he’ll be more heroic than Michael Scofield of “Prison Break”.

    Otherwise, he’s jut a buffoon.

  • Matthew

This is why he is my favorite disgraced governor ever.

First you have to consider that you wouldn’t be a Democrat if you weren’t a scoundrel first. Kwame Fitzpatrick of Detroit. Antonio Villalarosa of Los Angeles. Gavin Newsome of SanFrancisco, Barney Frank of Massachusetts. Chris Dodd of Connecticut to name jus a few of the more prominent scoundrels.
Secondly, what if Federal Attorney Fitzgerald’s 6:00 AM raid on the Blagojevich residence was in reality a preemptive raid intended to bring a halt to the sordid chain of events before THE ONE was implicated in what was obviously headed toward a criminal end? After all, even Government Investigators make a mistake every now and then don’t they? Imagine the photo op, Fitzpatrick, Blagojevich and THE ONE shaking hands and saying let’s let bygones be bygones. All peas in a pod.
    Laissez les bontemps roullez!
