Yes, Mr. President. You won. How’s your debt bill coming along?

And it's funny, but by my count you don't need us at all.

I would like to thank both the President of the United States of America, and the liberal Democratic group Americans United for Change, for their plans to remind three critical swing states that the Democratic Party is pushing a debt package that only 42% - and dropping - of the country believes in, and that a majority of independent voters oppose.  But there’s something even odder about this strategy:

Politico has learned that tomorrow Americans United for Change, a liberal group, will begin airing radio ads in three states Obama won — Ohio, Pennsylvania and Nevada — with a tough question aimed at the GOP senators there: Will you side with Obama or Rush Limbaugh?

“Every Republican member of the House chose to take Rush Limbaugh’s advice,” says the narrator after playing the conservative talk radio giant’s declaration that he hopes Obama “fails.”

“Every Republican voted with Limbaugh — and against creating 4 million new American jobs. We can understand why a extreme partisan like Rush Limbaugh wants President Obama’s Jobs program to fail — but the members of Congress elected to represent the citizens in their districts? That’s another matter. Now the Obama plan goes to the Senate, and the question is: Will our Senator”—here the ad is tailored by state to name George Voinovich in Ohio, Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania, and John Ensign in Nevada—”side with Rush Limbaugh too?”

You see, John Ensign isn’t running for re-election until 2012.  There’s no pressure on him.  George Voinovich is retiring at the end of his term, which means that there’s no pressure on him, either.  And Arlen Specter won by 11 points in 2004, after he had a bruising primary victory.  0 for 3, in other words.

What this is really about, of course, is that the House GOP’s decision yesterday to Hold The Line has seriously disconcerted the Democratic Party.  They’re in a position where they’ve got an increasingly-unpopular bill to carry, and they’re willing to do anything to pass off some of the load… except let Congressional Republicans hack away at the accumulated special-interest pork.  Better and better, they can pass this bill without our help, and this is probably one time where three-Republicans-plus-the-Democratic-caucus isn’t going to look “bipartisan.”  In a very real sense, we won this round Wednesday night: the only question is whether McConnell and the rest of the Senate GOP have the guts to go for the bonus points.  If they need a stiffener, remember: only 42% support.  50% of independents oppose.

“Good odds for any Greek.”

To vote against both their party and Constituents, in the name of “Working with the new Administration”

Well, I can only hope the bother to look at the poll numbers. If the Senate holds the line too, that would be a blow of epic proportions to the Pelosi-Reid-Obama Axis.

But I’m not holding my breath

How can anyone be surprised when an ideology that regards wealth as a cardinal sin cannot produce it?

The Dems can pass their “stimulus” bill without any GOP support that was clear after the vote in the House. So why all the hand wringing over Republicans not voting for their bill? What the Dems and Obama need Republicans for is to provide political cover since they can no longer hide behind George Bush. The Dems will take all the credit if the bill is a success it will only become “bipartisan” if it fails. They wanted all the power so let them take all the blame when the Obama “stimulus” bill fails.

I agree

scarlos Friday, January 30th at 1:03AM EST (link)

The only reason they have to want “Bi-partisan” support in passing this bill is to deflect blame if it fails.

Which brings up an interesting question, why are they even pushing a bill that would cost hundreds of Billions of dollars if they are not completely convinced that it will succeed?

If I were them and I thought that this bill was going to create 4 Million jobs out of nothing more than a Congressional resolution, than I would want to make sure no Republicans voted for it. Why let them take credit when it “succeeds” when you can use it against them in the next round of Congressional Elections?

How can anyone be surprised when an ideology that regards wealth as a cardinal sin cannot produce it?

The more idealist ones think it will work, but the smarter ones know it wont work.

And they don’t care, in fact they are counting on the misery increasing.

What it will do is cement their status in the eyes of their core supporters and attract new supporters from the masses of unemployed that get money handed to them as they continue to struggle to make ends meet.

There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, in the end, ‘Thy will be done.’ -C. S. Lewis

Last night’s House vote on the so-called stimulus was huge…..kudos to the House GOP Leadership, as well as the 12 Dems who crossed over.

I didn’t think we’d get to say “I told you so” just nine days after Obama was installed, but it’s happening. As you point out, the key is that public support for this bill has been crumbling all week, once people began to realize that it’s just the same old Democrat grab-bag of goodies and garbage. Watching Pelosi on Sunday with Stephanopolous—- trying to defend the inclusion of millions of dollars for contraceptives funding—I had a feeling that this thing would be Obama-Biden’s worst nightmare.

Another one of those fun moments came today, watching “truthless Joe” being interviewed by John Harwood of CNBC. Biden looked white as a sheet, and was feebly trying to assure us that “the bill is definitely going to be changed, for sure”…..yeah, Joe, you finally got one right. The bill might even be killed.

And in the meantime, the “President” has allowed himself to be drawn into a pissing match with a talk radio personality—one that will bury him given half a chance. I knew that Obama was going to fold—just didn’t think that it was going to happen this quickly. He has told us that we are in the “greatest crisis since the Great Depression”, but he and his cast of thousands have totally muffed their first major legislation to deal with it…..legislation which was originally promised to be on his desk by innauguration day.

He got drawn into a pissing match with Gov. Palin during the campaign, too, which should have been “below his pay grade”. Sheesh, he is so easy to bait.

I’ve noted how he cannot stand criticism. The more he runs around trying to squelch it, the more he is going to have to run around trying to squelch it. It would be a lot of fun to get him running in circles, spending his whole time doing that, if the international consequences were not so grave. Our domestic, Federalist structure could handle the distraction, even the absence of the Executive for quite awhile.

He thinks that he has inherited a mess from President Bush? I dread to contemplate the mess that his successor will inherit from him.

If you pay people to sit on their duffs, you cannot be surprised when they do.

Still waiting

Adjoran Friday, January 30th at 2:19AM EST (link)

for someone to explain to me why the 75-95% (depending on how it’s figured) of the “stimulus” spending which won’t be spent until 2011 or thereafter should not simply go through the regular appropriations process.

There is plenty of time for staff to research, committee hearings, and etc. to determine which initiatives are worthwhile and which are not. So why the urgency to pass the entire package in one fell swoop?

The only possible reasons I can deduce are that Democrats understand most of their proposed spending cannot withstand normal scrutiny (even such as it is in the Congress), and that they understand the recession is bound to end eventually and hope to use this package to gain credit for ’saving the country’ amongst people stupid enough to consider voting for them in the first place.

And another thing . . .

Adjoran Friday, January 30th at 2:21AM EST (link)

If this problem is based on a severe tightening of credit markets, how is it possible to solve a “crisis” of supply of credit by the government borrowing a couple trillion dollars. Doesn’t that actually dry up available credit further?

It makes no sense at all . . . no wonder Democrats flock to it!

A good question to ask D's everywhere

scarlos Friday, January 30th at 2:39AM EST (link)

I personally favor the approach the private sector is using right now, namely shed wasteful spending and try to cut back everywhere. If we can cut back on spending now, then that will bode well for when the crisis ends and suddenly we have a surplus (which can either be invested back into the economy again via tax cuts or be dedicated to reducing the deficit).

After all, what is the point of spending 700 Billion in order to prevent the fiscal market from collapsing just to run it dry borrowing like a madman?

Homework assignment

DoodadPro Friday, January 30th at 2:39AM EST (link)

My 8-year old daughter got a homework assignment, which is to write The One a letter about what she wants him to do for the country.

The first words out of her mouth were, “I should tell him not to kill babies before they are born.”

I said that might not go over too well with her liberal NYC school friends.

She then said, “I think he shouldn’t raise taxes.”

I said that her friends might not understand that one either.

So I told her to write this: “Please do not make the government too big by spending too much money. I and my friends do not want to be paying for wasted money when we grow up.”

Liberals

Magic2171 Friday, January 30th at 9:49AM EST (link)

Never expect to see a liberal follow a logical sequence, that would confuse them and then they would be the same as the peons that they hate. They follow the tortured path to prove to themselves that they are superior and the elite of society. This ploy is to see how much noise they need to make to get the sheeple to follow, are they still seeing the rainbows and unicorns or will the “One” have to get out the fairy dust to blind them again.
