Reid to GOP: It’s your fault if stimulus stalls
As the $820 billion stimulus package heads to the upper chamber, Senate Democratic leaders are launching a pre-emptive strike.
In a Thursday afternoon news conference, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid urged Senate Republicans not to line up against the bill, and says Republicans will be blamed for any delay in the landmark economic legislation.
“If we don’t [pass the bill], it’s not our fault, we’re trying,” Reid said. “The president has done a remarkable job covering all the bases on Capitol Hill.”
Actually, if you don’t [pass your bill], it’s completely your fault, and while you’re certainly “trying” I imagine that the President would agree with me that it’s the alternate definition of the word that applies here. You have 58 Senators, Reid: if you can’t control your own caucus, don’t presume to try to control ours. President Barack Obama had but one simple task for you and Speaker Pelosi, Senator Reid: create a bill that the Republican Party would find too impolitic to oppose.
You failed.
If this was a Bond movie, you’d have been tossed into the lava pool by now.

PS: Don’t think that this lets you off of the hook, Senate Republicans. The House gave you a baseline for proper behavior. Heed.

roscopico Saturday, January 31st at 8:36PM EST (link)we should expect nothing less from the Senate. Anything less will be grounds for excommunication. I don’t care about any measure of pork-trimming or logrolling… the Generational Debt Bill of 2009 is a piece of trash in any form, and any senator rolled to vote for it must be removed.
I shall actively rally against ANY Republican who ends up logrolled.
…Even if this means contributing to a Democrat challenger. It is that serious.

Do Not Kill the Porkulus Bill
Spartan4Life Monday, February 2nd at 1:49AM EST (link)Just vote against it.
Don’t “compromise”.
Do not under any circumstances work to “improve” it.
Just let it pass as is while you vote against it.
If this is the best they can do, if this is HOPE and CHANGE let them have it, for chrissakes. Just don’t give them the political cover they crave.
Do we need to give them reminders now?
andrea Saturday, January 31st at 10:08PM EST (link)I keep wondering what happened to the daily reminders from Democratic leadership about who won. They have the presidency. They have the majority in Congress. This bill is theirs, all theirs, but they still do not want to own it. At least they could do is have the courage of their convictions, but I suppose that would require their having convictions (and courage) instead of just coffers to line.
They are just
Rapunzel46 Sunday, February 1st at 1:39AM EST (link)looking for cover because they know there is going to be a backlash. This morning Fox said Obama has unleashed his Blackberry buddies to hold block parties next week to “explain” the virtues of this spending bill.

mbecker908 Saturday, January 31st at 10:34PM EST (link)I have a hard time understanding how anybody thinks there’s a difference between 59 and 60. There is no way in hell the Republicans could get all 41 Senators to agree on a cloture vote even if the law was to provide for summary execution of Republican Senators.
When jerks like Hatch won’t even vote against our new Treasury Secty or the AG, what makes you think we could hold a vote on anything else. Even a SCOTUS Justice. Get over it.

Big Talk, Quick Fold
ggross56 Saturday, January 31st at 10:38PM EST (link)I point out in this post that Harry Reid & Chuck Schumer talk big but that they’ll fold quickly:
http://www.letfreedomringblog.com/?p=3549
I attended a townhall meeting in St. Cloud, MN this morning. One of the local businessmen told me that his contact in DC is saying that the less-than-stimulating stimulus bill is about to undergo a major rewrite. I wrote about that here:
http://www.letfreedomringblog.com/?p=3543
Do Not Participate in "Rewrite" of Porkulus Bill
Spartan4Life Monday, February 2nd at 2:01AM EST (link)Republicans are like Charlie Brown trying to kick the frigging football.
If the bill is about to be rewritten(and I think that is what dems have in mind, btw), what good does it do the GOP to participate? A complete rewrite will be an acknowledgemeent by the dems that the bill sucks(it does). By participating the GOP will get zero credit and it will be the Republicans who are portrayed as having had their “demands” met and included in the bill.
Wake up. Give them nothing. Make it their problem and their solution. Everything they are proposing is wrong and will make things wose.
Do not give them cover.
This is probably the most fascinating thing I have witnessed
Jack_Savage Saturday, January 31st at 10:48PM EST (link)In quite a number of years of watching politics. I have never seen a group of people who won so decisive a victory behave in such a timid manner. This is a major “tell”, and the last thing the Republicans should do is give any political cover whatsoever. They won, after all.
The best thing that Senate Republicans can do politically is to thank Obama for his concern, inform the press that they must, sadly, oppose the stimulus bill out of principle, then go dark. No communication, no contact, no compromise. Let the Dems write the bill and bring it to the floor, then simply vote “no”.
It is high time the burden of governing and tough decisions be hung around a few Democrat necks.
Same thing on immigration and other cases
bk Saturday, January 31st at 10:53PM EST (link)Dems have a majority and want to blame the GOP for anything that fails.

Praying Saturday, January 31st at 11:47PM EST (link)which tells me that deep down in their cold evil little hearts, the libs even know it’s a rotten bill. but they are too chicken s**t cowardly to actually oppose “the one” - like a bunch of lemmings they will follow him off the cliff, but they want to make sure the GOP is behind them, so everyone can say “they got pushed off the cliff”. That, and they assume the republicans are so stupid (not being part of the intellectual elite, you know) that they don’t know how to count, and will fall for the fake.

And how is it that the worst Senate majority leader in a generation (or two) AND the worst House speaker in a generation (or two) arrived at the same moment?
The most entitlement minded electorate in a generation (or two)? nt
