AG Holder: no more raids on medical marijuana clubs.

I have two thoughts on this story (sort of H/T Instapundit*)

Holder Hints at Ending DEA Raids on Medical Marijuana

Attorney General Holder was speaking at a press conference Wednesday about Operation XCellerator, a crackdown on Mexican drug cartels, when a reporter asked him about the DEA’s stance on the raids. The reporter mentioned some raids that occurred right after the inauguration but before Holder’s confirmation, then he asked Holder if he would continue the raids policy under his tenure.

Holder joked, “What the president said during the campaign, you will be surprised to know, will be consistent with what we will be doing here in law enforcement.” After a bit of laughter, he repeated, “What he said during the campaign is now American policy.”

The first is that, like Glenn Reynolds, I think that every second that the Department of Justice spends hassling medical pot clubs is a second that they’re not investigating crooked politicians or lobbyists, and frankly these days I’d rather that they concentrate on that sort of thing. We have long since passed the point where a public official with his hand out is doing more to adversely influence my personal quality of life than some guy with a prescription to smoke weed. Or even a “prescription.”

The second is: dude. When your own Cabinet members are mocking you for your inability to keep a campaign promise…

    If we’re not going to enforce the law, we really ought to just change it. The last thing we need to do is trying to convince people that there are some laws it is OK to ignore, and others — you shouldn’t.

    Is it too much for some consistency?

    Consistency in the sense you’re using it wouldn’t be possible in any event as there are limited law enforcement resources and a nearly limitless number of federal laws. The government is always going to have to make some decisions about where it channels its resources. That said, I agree that it would be simpler to just strike down the prohibition and be done with it.

    The latest reaction to an actual Raid was to, as Liberals always do, defend the ILLEGAL ALIENS and state that “the matter” would be looked into… EVerify is dead too, of course….

    It should be a state matter, ah, er, like abortion.

    In some states it is legal for medical purposes — and it should be up to the state on how they enforce that.

    And I have made all the calls and sent the nastygrams that NumbersUSA put on my Action Buffet.

    Unlike the unconstitutional drug prohibition, there is actually a Constitutional Basis for the Federal Government enforcing our immigration laws. “Nappy’ made a lot of noise for the need for workplace enforcement when she was confirmed. I think she particularly stated the need for enforcement against employers. I actually agree with her on this but I’d better see some raids where the employers are doing the “Perp Walk” pretty quick or I’m going to start to believe that she was not serious.

    I think if we arrested a few employers and systematically destroyed their businesses with fines and legal fees that the vast majority of the rest would get the message and purge their workforce of illegals.

    She means JUST punishing Employers but not the ILLEGAL Workers from the nuance BS she is dancing around… and yet the Democrats killed EVerify…. “Nappy” is the perfect Double-speaking MORON to match the RADICAL-IN-CHIEF Double-speaker in the WH….

    We seemed to have made great ground in turning people against Amnesty and toward enforcement, that would then have (at least) some voluntarily deport (read: leave)… though that would obviously be a small number compared to the number here Illegally… Americans will suffer more losses (loss of Jobs, loss of Lives at the hands of some additionally criminal/violent Illegals, other crime, etc) and that will probably be the only time others wake up….

    MORE HAS TO BE MADE ABOUT DEM’S KILLING EVERIFY… It clearly shows they just plain LIE about “Employer Enforcement” when they take away the best means for Employers to protect themselves against people committing fraud…. The alternative, that these moronic Liberals don’t see, is that some folks WILL START USING A RACIST BASED POLICY IN HIRING just to avoid any chance of hiring Illegal Hispanics (the largest numbers of Illegals, but of course NOT ALL ILLEGALS)… The whole notion of “PROFILING” Liberals whine about is the type of actions they drive people toward to protect themselves without a good EVerify program in place…. The truth is that the Liberals see that as a WIN WIN… They Sue the Employers either way that way (for discrimination [they helped bring about] or for Immigration violations… all again, while leaving Illegal Aliens in place)….

    The Truth, IMHO, about that last raid and their outrage was that the local ICE office conducted the raid that was in the works for some time… The ObamaBinBiden Radicals hadn’t had time to be in the loop and to notify their Amnesty allies so that they could WARN ILLEGALS IN ADVANCE OF THE RAID as we’ve seen some groups do.

    I just went back to NumbersUSA and sent the Faxes via the Action Buffet regarding the ICE Raids opposition to Senators and ObamaBinBiden…. While I don’t think that “canned” form letters/faxes are the best thing, I ALWAYS DO SOME CUSTOMIZATION TO THE LETTERS (as they allow) before having them Send…. Regardless, if people do nothing else the use of NumbersUSA to help flood the WH and others with “a canned letter” is at least something…

    I was sure to add a PS… Usually do in ALL CAPS to show I pay attention and interact with what I send not just pushing a send button… regarding EVerify and also to tie-in Moe’s original concern in this Diary…. and that is “TO ENFORCE THIS NATIONS LAWS… ALL OF THEM… OR HAVE THE HONESTY TO TRY TO CHANGE THEM (SO WE MAY OPPOSE AND STOP YOU WITH THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS FINALLY SPEAKING OUT AGAINST YOU!)”

    Michigan had recently passed, general ballot initiative, a law on allowing for Medical Use of Pot…. not sure how any implementation is going with any of that… just wanted to mention as it relates to this thread topic…. Ann Arbor MI has always had “Pot Days” and Law Enforcement does nothing.
