He’s already filed to run for the House seat on the Republican side. Charles is a Honolulu City Councilman, Army Reserve officer, and law professor; plugged into Facebook and MySpace; decently sound on the issues; and is apparently already endorsed by Gov. Lingle and the Hawaii GOP (H/T: BackyardConservative). Cook currently ranks it as D+7; but both Bush and Lingle did well in the district.
And, most importantly, fairly solid speculation has it that current incumbent Neil Abercrombie will be running for Governor next year. Even if he doesn’t get the nomination for that, Abercrombie’s focus will be elsewhere, and Djou’s actually doing well in fundraising so far. So keep an eye on this race; and if you’re a Republican from Hawaii, I suggest that you think about helping out with either time or money.
Because every Congressional race counts.

GreyCloak (Diary) Saturday, February 28th at 2:40AM EST (link)I don’t know Charles Djou, but he seems like a nice guy.
What I do know is that Hawaii’s 2nd elected a dead Democrat in 2002 … Patsy Mink passed away in late September, but still carried 52% of the District on November 5 … another Democrat (Ed Case) carried the District by 51% in a special election the following November 30.
In 2008, Districts 1 and 2 were won by almost 70% by Democrats, while 71.5% of the State voted for Obama.
Mr. Djou has a tough row to hoe … best wishes to him.
He does, but if Abercrombie goes for the Governor's slot...
Moe Lane (Diary) Saturday, February 28th at 7:59AM EST (link)…this race opens up. I should have put up the numbers, but Bush won 45% of the vote there in 2004 and Lingle took the district comfortably (66%) in 2006. The latter is probably more important than the former.
A lock, it is not; and if Abercrombie doesn’t end up running for Governor, Djou will have that tough row to hoe. But this is one for the political junkies to keep an eye on.
