FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

Witness the power of this fully armed and operational Debt Star.

A Republican Senate leadership aide responded: \'It really is a silly campaign. What are we saying ?no? to? Trillions in new spending? An unpopular, earmark-laden bill that the President himself was embarrassed to sign? A new national energy tax? Releasing Gitmo terrorists into the U.S.? We?d like to thank them for reminding the American people that we are saying ?no? to those things.\'

I have officially run out of alternative ways to express the concept that irony is dead, so I will simply say: “Irony is dead:”

Beginning Sunday, the White House will harness every part of the Democratic Party’s machinery to defend President Obama’s budget and portray Republicans as reflexively political, according to party strategists.

A participant in the planning meetings described the push as a successor to Democrats’ message that Rush Limbaugh is the Republican Party leader. “We have exhausted the use of Rush as an attention-getter,” the official said.

David Plouffe, manager of Obama’s presidential race, helped design the strategy, which includes the most extensive activation since November of the campaign’s grassroots network. The database—which includes information for at least 10 million donors, supporters and volunteers—will now be used as a unique tool for governing, with former canvassers now being enlisted to mobilize support for the president’s legislative agenda.

(Via Hot Air Headlines)

And this is why you don’t run candidates as if they were demigods come down to earth. You end up being critically short of people who aren’t afraid to tell you when you’re singing off-key.

Let me sum up the President’s plan, here:

  1. Spam every person who ever signed up for Obama’s email/cell phone list with a barrage of requests to go out and convince other people that what the country really needs right now is to keep passing the Democrats’ collective wish lists.
  2. -
  3. Profit!

That’s pretty much it.  Sure, there’s going to be a bunch of television ads and talking heads, but the heart of this particular campaign is going to be the email database.  Unfortunately, they’re probably not going to be asking for money – the transition team was annoying people Left and… Left, really; the Right just found it hysterical – just for people’s time, energy, eloquence, and dedication to a project that will double the national debt over the next ten years.  I’m sure that the other 9,999,999 people in that database (I just wanted to know what the campaign was up to on any given day) are going to be absolutely ecstatic to participate in that project. Particularly when it comes to hosting little deficit-justification parties; nothing screams “Saturday afternoon” like “a meeting to explain why your unborn kids need to go into debt.”

All justified mockery aside, if you look at the plan itself (and not just my sneers at it) you’ll see that it’s a very speculative sort of effort. It could counter attacks on the budget and the agenda. It might keep the Blue Dogs from voting their class interests. It may make Republicans look like they’re playing politics. As to that last bit, if Boehner Communications Director Kevin Smith’s pithy response:

“If I had to defend the president’s budget—which is being eviscerated by both parties because it spends too much, taxes too much, and borrows too much—I’d probably waste time on fictitious claims like this, too.”

…is playing politics, then we’re ready to play, too. Because what the Democrats don’t want to reveal in all of this is that they don’t need the GOP to pass any of their legislation. They own the government. It’s theirs. Success and failure is all theirs to hold. This is the goal that they’ve spent most of the last eight years trying to reach. And now that they have?

They’re scared.

Moe Lane

PS: The Republican Party doesn’t do fear, sorry. Our vices lie elsewhere.

The thought of millions of ACORN type activists going out to convince America that this is the right plan and they should support it is rather humorous – since Obama supporters undoubtedly make up a majority of the 66% of American’s who DO NOT know what the three branches of the Federal government are, for example. Or who the Vice President is (no loss there…) Yep, this should be humorous. If we can just keep the GOP from STEPPING IN IT again!

  • DONTREADONME

anyway, I really dig the DEBT STAR thing, it really could stick the wife actually chuckled at that line. Keep it going.

1a) Once we are in power, we fail to reverse a lot of Obama’s policies. or 2) the pendulum swings too far (i.e. pure libertarianism)

Like others have said, we need to make a complete list of legislation to reverse once we are in the majority. The problem will be to restrain the amount of government that is taken out; I’ve concluded from listening to Ron Paul’s rant at CPAC (he was doing okay until he got to his isolationist foreign policy) and the Campaign for Liberty forum at CPAC that pure libertarianism is nuts and somewhat naive.

By the time Obama and the Democrats have stacked the Federal courts, every program passed by the Democrats will be constitutionally protected and forever untouchable.

The courts are what slowed FDR down for a little while, until the judges quailed. But this time, with the committed liberal ideologues dominating the judiciary, either the counter-revolution will be checkmated, or we’ll have the mother-of-all showdowns between the branches of government.

My bet is on the former, I fear.

Before they’ve always managed to play the bipartisanship card and get enough Republicans on board that if anything they passed failed, they could point at the other side, in a schoolyardish way.

If I were them, I’d be scared, too. I’m not them, heh, but I can sure enjoy the sight of them being scared. ;-)

  • rick554

Must figure out some sort of obamatron homing beacon to lure those poor souls to my front porch. A giant ACORN?? Maybe a couple infra red cams like NATGEO uses. Maybe I’ll even get a trophy like Barry skulking around in my front yard. Or maybe James Carville!!! Bring ‘em on Barack!!

  • redneck_hippie

needs to launch a campaign to assure the electorate like what he is doing. Guess that “let them eat cake” thing is starting to not work so good.

  • http://hillbillypolitics.com Steph C

It’s all he knows how to do; albeit he does it very well. It’s the others, what few cabinet members, Pelosi, Reid, et. al who are doers in this politcal saga.

  • red4ever

They have 10 million (minus the Republicans who were just doing recon) in their database that they can contact and mobilze. We are still trying to figure out how to createa party website.

This is what using technology means. We need to have a database to mobilize folks to point out WHY the Debt Star is aimed right at us. What happened to Alderon is nothing compared to what this budget can do.

  • redneck_hippie

polls are the process drivers for this administration. Separate The One from his adoring fan base and the styrofoam presidency topples like a flimsy shack.

I have to say that there is nothing wrong with knowing what the enermy is telling there own poeple, best way I know of to be able to counter there propaganda. I expect to be keep informed as only you can Moe.
Any way my history is a little rusty and it was tought from the British prospective but this BO plan sounds a lot like the beginings of that regime that both my grandfathers had to fight, yes granted they we both teenage RAF pilots towards the end of the war but still night bombing was always a better way to go, YES its on a grander scale and using modern tech but its designed to do the same thing as what is it 80 years ago now, (wasn’t there that Russain Economist who came up with an economic model based on an eighty year cycle Starlin killed him right wrong answer and all, what was his name?), “donors, supporters and volunteers’ thats how it started and then they “will now be used as a unique tool for governing”.
I for one say NO to that, ‘ if i can’t shot rabbits then I can’t shot facists’ a line from the Manic Street Preachers song If You Tolerate This Then Your Children Will Be Next spriang to mind when I read this, HOW do you add that under any comment, like that REDSTATE Army thing?

When it counts, it counts and lets just hope that our 41 hold long enough for 2011.

  • djemi

Republicans need to do two thing, table other options and vote as one unit, disipline and message, period.

  • smitch61

They are scared, and the tea party revolutions will not help them. They are speaking to a wide group of Americans that do not pay attention to politics. It should be our mission to get to the people and let them know the Dem’s are free to do their thing without the Republicans. I am telling you, people for the most part are not aware. That is the major issue I have always had with the Republican party. Their inability to counter attack when needed and offer an explanation to the people in their defense. People today still believe the Republican party is for the rich, with no understanding of the free market, capitalism and what it means.

  • INC

This is his take on whether or not the budget will “solve our economic problems.”

None of the issues addressed in the Obama budget was in any way a cause of the financial crisis. We did not have a housing bubble collapse because we don’t have a national health insurance program. We don’t have toxic waste clogging the balance sheets of the banks and other financial institutions because of carbon emissions. The Bush tax cuts were not a proximate cause of the giant public debt being run up under the Toxic Assets Relief Program or the 2009 stimulus package….

There’s another reason to put aside the Obama budget plans. We’re in a severe recession, and each of his major proposals is going to stunt the growth of the private sector economy.

He takes some swipes at global warming as well.

  • JakePrime

They’re in attack mode, we’re on defense. It’s not working out; we’re losing ground everyday. We need to match them head for head. Get out there and convince your neighbors, your friends, your classmates, your local bodega owner that we can’t support this debt and can’t afford to let the government burn the money that we earn.

Remind them that, not only are we losing a chunk of our paycheck, but that there will be a reckoning for our debt. At some point we lose credibility, and if that day comes, the world will wish we had banks left to go bankrupt.

  • Next93

Could make for a great response ad. I wonder how the legal issues would fall? Paramount or someone probably has a copyright on the phrase itself and the audio of James Earl Jones’ voiceover.

  • Next93

Maybe if some Islamic extremists take over an embassy somewhere, Obama will lock himself in the White House.

After all, it happened during the FIRST Carter term…

  • Next93

Maybe we need to do a little ju-jutsu number on them and craft a version of the fairness doctrine that goes after news organizations that refuse to air stories that don’t fit into the narrative. There was plenty of stuff that should have scuttled the Big O during the campaign, that never saw the light of day outside the right-half of the blogosphere.

I’d be following Rush, Hannity, Beck, and Lewis into subscription-based radio if it meant that the Big Three and thier ilk would have to stop acting as the propaganda arm of the Democratic Party. It’d probably be the best subscription boost that Sirius has ever seen, and it would be a heck of a lot better for the country than the current situation.

  • mom2oneson

I don’t watch tv at all so I don’t know who advertises but why don’t we call for a boycot of products that support the liberal media news? I remember when I was a kid our pastor calling us to boycott certain products or stores. Is that not effective now?

  • mom2oneson
  • whitman4562001

I am all for proposing a reverse fairness doctrine. And iI am all for turning their own philosphy back on them every chance we get.

    On a lighter note…

They can’t collect enough tax in the next four years to pay fro this mess of a stimulus; the next Congress will have to find a way to hack it down.

It really hurt to read the French President lecture us on fiscal policy; he is more conservative than our own. Russia is more economically prudent than us and is lending us money. Congress is oblivious, still in the mode of buying votes.

  • Rod_Patrick

    And Obama owns it!!!!!

  • Jack

have been making fun of this guy since he gave his first speech. We have yet to defeat him I do believe some humility should be shown. We don’t have a database of 10,000,000 people. He had kicked our ass every time he has run. Yet we have the audacity to make fun of him?

We have learned nothing over the past 2 years.

  • mbecker908

There won’t be a single piece of legislation that the Dems won’t be able to get cloture on.

any bill in this Congress. Hope I’m wrong.

I am a PC is Southern Arizona. Yesterday was the monthly meeting for my legislative district. We had so many people in attendance, we were spilling outsoors. The same thing is happening all over Arizona. We had at least 20 new people come to our meeting. Everyone of them announced that they were there to fight back against Obama’s socialist agenda and wanted to be with other like-minded people. We are organizing and fighting back. Anyone can visit their local Republican monthly meetings. Go to your local GOP headquarters. Get involved! We can take back our Party and dramatically change the results in 2010.

  • janis

will not get us anything when dealing with this man and whoever is helping to pull his strings. Humility won’t win back our freedom. Humility won’t get us back our lost wealth.

The only thing we need to show this man is our utter and unquenchable need to defeat him and to take back our country. And if we need to show the squishes in our own party the same thing and oust them from power, too, then that will be a huge side benefit.

By the way, making fun of the man is our right, too.

  • mbecker908

?If at age 20 you are conservative you have no heart. It at age 30 you are liberal you have no brains.? Sir Winston Churchill

Add to the end, ” and if you are a Republican you have no balls.”

  • mbecker908

But the real question is, will we kill off the arms of the government that are even now beginning to squeeze the life out of America? I don’t think so. The Great Society is still pretty much in tact as is the New Deal. The only changes Republicans have made to either of those programs is to broaden them.

  • http://moelane.com/ Moe Lane

    Was there anything else?

  • randy streu

he’s an idiot. We’re going to keep pointing out that he’s an idiot. At some point, God willing, it’ll sink in.

Hey, constant repetition works for the Democrats — and they don’t even bother repeating actual facts.

That Obama is a moronic tool is right out there for anybody to see, if they care to look.

  • janis

Found this from a commenter named “gator” at Ace of Spades yesterday.

“Obama has grand plans. He’s no idiot, but he’s no student of history either. He’s just another politician who thinks he knows what’s best for us. The dude’s never been smacked in the mouth for saying something stupid, and his folks coddled the lithe little bit*h like he was Queen of the World. His biggest qualifications are that he’s half-black and can read eloquently. He’s no evil genius, but evil will result from his policies.”

Truer words have not been spoken. By the way, Obama didn’t win all on his own. He had illegal campaign money to pay for it, a biased MSMS to run interference for him, and a suspiciously timely economic collapse to seal the deal.

I was talking about judges, I’m not talking about bills I know full well that that horse has already bolted. I just hope Specter as ranking member can do the good footsoilders thing and hold up the judges, along with the other fourty. Or am I missing something?

  • Next93

The Dems only ran Obama because George Clooney had a scheduling conflict (he was filming “Frankenchaney III”, an important film in which the Bush administration is linked to the Lincoln assasination through a network of innuendo, half-truths, and outright lies).

They would have used Hillary but they realized that Obama looks better topless.

  • randy streu

btw… LOL @ last line. But I’m going to hate you forever for the image in my head now.

  • Flagstaff

    Bahney Fwank and Chrissy Dodd.

  • mbecker908

Specter didn’t hold up Eric Holder for more than about twenty minutes. He won’t hold up a single judicial nominee even that much. Neither will McCain or Graham or what is left of the G14. Take notes, you’re going to see how a President and a Judiciary Chairman of the same party should work together.

  • http://andrightlyso.com/ civil_truth

It’ll be like the Democrats having a perpetual veto (via the courts) over every legislation that a Republican counterevolution could think of for the next 20 years. Especially given how many Bush appointments have been delayed for the past four years.

Not to mention that the federal courts will override state laws (via federalization) that aren’t sufficient left-wing. This is very depressing.

  • itrytobenice

    I need a window cling.

  • djemi

The only ones getting rich in the next 20 years are lawyers then, ha ha. I just want to point out that I said HOPE, I’m not expecting anything good but I am Hopping something can be done. I do conceed that the Democrats are going to be able to fill the bench with leguslaters which is just wrong, but one can hope can’t they.
