FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

February Fundraising numbers are in.

Being so profoundly in the minority seems to have clarified things for people.

Very shortly: it’s good news for the GOP, with the partial exception of the NRCC.

RNC/DNC, February (Via Hot Air)
The RNC raised 5.10 million, has 24 million cash-on-hand, and no debt.
The DNC raised 3.26 million, has 8.6 million cash-on-hand, and has 6.9 million in debt.

NRSC/DSCC, February
The RSCC raised 2.87 million, has 1.05 million cash-on-hand, and has 2.7 million in debt (drawn down).
The DSCC raised 2.87 million, has 2.91 million cash-on-hand, and has 10.9 million in debt (no debt retired).

NRCC/DCCC, February
The NRCC raised 2.03 million, has 1.85 million cash-on-hand, and has 6.4 million in debt.
The DCCC raised 3.48 million, has 2.91 million cash-on-hand, and has 15.09 million in debt.

I say “partial exception” because fundraising for the NRCC clearly needs improving (although the DCCC’s need for debt retirement will help there).  For the rest: it looks like the kerfuffle over Steele didn’t cost the RNC its usual fundraising lead over the DNC; but the big news here is the way that the NRSC held its own against the DSCC.  Given the number of untested incumbents and open seats that the Democrats are going to be fielding next year, parity is good.  Parity is, in fact, excellent.

Nonetheless, the totals this month should be merely a reminder that the GOP is not yet dead, and never mind how many people may be slaveringly eager to say otherwise.  This is the time to rebuild.  This is the time to go to the state GOP parties.  This is the time to find the candidates that you want to be speaking for you in the 112th Congress, and to go support them.  There will be no cavalry coming over the hill to save you – because you are the cavalry.

And you are perfectly capable of saving yourself.

It’s virtually impossible for the ‘party out of power’ to get anywhere near ‘parity’ in fundraising with the party controlling the House (esp. when that party is the Dems who effectively have a guaranteed funding stream thanks to unions).

As I think the normal fundraising edge for the D’s as the controlling party is more on the order of 2:1, getting numbers closer to 60% of the DCCC’s total is actually a pretty decent haul for the NRCC, in my book.

On the GOP web site is a page for a GOP toolbar.

It installs a search toolbar on your browser (I only see IE* and FireFox listed). Each time you search, you rack up about $.02 that gets donated in your name to the RNC. I’ve been using it for a couple of months and raised $6.74 by just using it instead of google to do searches. I know they’re getting the money because I got a thank you card for last month’s (quater’s?) donation.

It doesn’t raise much per person, but if you multiply that $6.74 times the thousands of people who visit here, it really adds up. It doesn’t cost you anything so you can STILL donate cash directly to the RNC and candidates of your choice.

*I use 4 different browsers and have only installed it on IE V6. If I want to do searches I open an IE window and search away. I have had no problems with it as yet. I have not tried the firefox version of the search tool.

The RNC fundraising advantage helps Michael Steele. It shows people do believe in him and what he is doing to reform the party from its good ole’ boy system. It is also a sign that citizens are fed up with Obama-mania and Congress.

I wish the GOP had one of those for my vista sidebar. Right now I do most of my searches via a gadget on the vista sidebar.

I love your idea of using the GOP Toolbar….thanks for the tip Brian!!

That company does the development or the toolbars and has the link into the search engine (which I think is Yahoo). They provide a similar service for many other caused too. I think the have a deal with Yahoo to get a few cents per search and funnel part of the money to whichever cause had sponsored the search widget (I wish I’d thought of this business model). As near as I can tell they only have IE and Firefox plugins.

Every major media player supporting Obama lost audience share during, and after, the election.

RNC fund raising is solid, Obama’s legally questionable.

Every McCain/Palin rally was crowded, enthusiastic, loud – most of Obama’s were media events with little real enthusiasm on display.

    How did McCain/Palin lose?
