The Democrats’ budget has passed. [UPDATED]

It is now theirs, with no ambiguities and/or caveats. They own it all.

I’ve received word that the Senate passed our current budget monstrosity 55-43.  No Republican defections: we picked up Bayh and Nelson of Florida Nebraska [my bad!].  Earlier, the House version passed 233/196 with no Republicans voting for it, 20 Democrats voting against it, with supposed fiscal conservatives (and European junketeers) Charlie Melancon (LA-03) and Bart Gordon (TN-06) singled out for special ridicule as being part of the group of Blue Dogs that signed off on a 3.6 trillion dollar budget.  In short, the GOP Held The Line again.

This, by the way, despite a whopping 214,000 signatures gathered by the Democrats in support of the budget: as the Washington Post rather gleefully noted [H/T: Instapundit], the stenographers over at CNN and Huffington Post duly wrote down the 642K number quoted without asking how many duplicates. It turns out that they counted each signature three times.

For those wondering what that means, peruse the graphic from Heritage below.  The numbers may be slightly off at this point, and there’s some reconciliation to be done: but the scale is not.

The Democratic Party now officially owns this economy.  I wish them joy of the ownership, and I hope that they get everything that they deserve from it.

Down to the bone.

You guys are doin’ great! Hold the line. You’ve lost the abortion battle, but please keep fighting it. You are handing the issue of the environment to the Democrats and I commend you for it. Not sure why you’d do that but who cares. And above all else, please keep bashing gays and Hispanics. You are quickly becoming a cult. It’s glorious to watch. The Democrats do own this economy now. And it will turn around and you will own Bush’s failure. Generations of your ignorant children will own it too.

I’m surprised to hear that as he is a deputy whip and was reelected in 2006. He’s also one of my senators. I called his D.C. office the other week and complained mightily for quite a while.

I can only guess that he received so many calls he told Reid to let him off the hook for this vote if possible. I know that’s cynical, but if he were your senator you’d find it hard to believe he had a change of heart and saw the error of his ways.

I hope the rest of us survive this economy long enough to boot the Dems out of office in the midterms.

Don’t think we’re not keeping score, brother

Great job from republicans. And great job from a handful of democrats.

Yup, HuffPo. The ‘stenographers’ comment must have especially stung.

out of dropping their pants and showing off their inadequacies. I think I’ll start calling them exhibitionists instead of trolls.

…who are screaming their heads off about this deficit Congress is getting us into with no end in sight. Oh, btw, was this bulge-it online for 48 hours to let the folks review it before it was voted on? Or was that 48 hours before Obama signs it? Sorry if I sound confused, but it’s hard to keep up with all the campaign promises that have been broken so far. But then again, as Rush said, everything this guy says has an expiration date.

  • paulincolo

This guy’s side wins and he launches an apoplectic attack. Is he a gay Hispanic (above all else) and feeling unloved? My own guess is he was aborted.

That aside, I was waiting for the good guys and gals to hold the line on something again. Hopefully soon, we can have Tedisco giving us one more. Now when America holds the line like Maximus slicing the head of a Germanic warrior in Nov 2010, I guess we will get to make fun of his generations of ignorant children, unless of course, they too were aborted.

“Hold the line! Stay with me! If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium, and you’re already dead!”

But it is better to stand on the side of truth and lose than to join with the liars, thieves and jackals as they proceed in their intentional corruption and ruin of the country. And you don’t love gays, blacks, women or hispanics, you only love using them for their votes and then betraying them when it counts. Typical lying marxist. Everything you say is a lie, including “of” and “the”. Everything you accuse republicans of is projection from your own acts or intentions. There is only one poll that matters when it comes to the economy: the stock market. It is tanking. It will keep on tanking, because Obama and your other false messiahs are fools whose ideology prevents them from recognizing the truth about economics, which is that freedom produces wealth and central control (aka fascism or socialism or caveman economics) produces poverty and misery.

for their Congressman and Senators; this is not over.

What’s more, I’m still calling for recall petitions to be started up as a result of the coming April 15th TEA Parties. Every Congressman and every Senator who have voted for the ‘stimulus’ or this near $4T monstrosity should feel the heat of the masses!

other than the Porkulus 3 Stooges BS and the one AIG Clawback (where many House Republicans voted with the UNConstitutional attempt) all the other Votes have the Bi-Partisanship (against the O-genda) in the court of RESPONSIBILITY and NOT ObamaBinBiden’s pathetic Spending!

And by making hard choices and challenging the old ways of doing business, we will cut in half the budget deficit we inherited within four years. With this vote comes an obligation to pursue our efforts to go through the budget line-by-line, searching for additional savings. Like the families we serve, we must cut the things we don’t need to invest in those we do.” ~ President Obama

Don’t really care why either….. Whether it was a political special dispensation from Dear Leader or Harry The Wonder Schmuck, or if Senator Nelson really saw the numbers to ruination.

I sent him a nice thank you mail for his vote for some measure of sanity.

    Cheers from South Flori-duh !

You can say any lie, you can say it right in front of everyone, you can say one thing even while you are doing the exact opposite, and the media will never call you on it, and your constituents won’t care even if they did.

It is a might y super power.

  • VanishingNYRep

The GOP is getting it right. You cannot win an argument or an election until you stand for something. When you are in a minority, you have to stand AGAINST something. Everyone in the GOP can oppose this budget and run for reelection on their principles.

BTW, this has nothing to do with the Budget vote. But in NY-20, as I have previously told Moe Lane and other RedStaters, The voting machines are adding machines. The totals are read from the back of the machines and sometimes the readers say the wrong numbers. Why am I mentioning this now, because the latest tally in NY-20 has Mr, Tedesco with a 12 vote lead. I am willing to bet that after the re-canvas is complete, he will have slightly bigger lead. The Absentee will be counted in central locations with the same standards. Mr. Tedesco will win this race. Mark my owrds.

These folks can’t just win, they must also destroy. They are of the mind-set that their programs fail because the whole world doesn’t subscribe to them. And if you are too practical-minded to subscribe to their hogwash, then they will implement it by compulsion; by the physical elimination of alternates.

That’s why they are so big on killing people to achieve their goals; “the end justifies the means,” and all that.

  • drohan00

It is my Nelson that voted no. The only true conservative Democrat left… Ben Nelson of Nebraska.

The lib media will try to help Bill Nelson with the Floridians, but it is the Nebraskan who listened to his constituents.

Nelson of NE is listed in the No column on the senate’s own website.

    Bill Foster- IL-14
    Dennis Kucinich OH-10
    Harry Mitchell AZ-5

These are neither freshman members or blue dogs. I do not have a clue in understanding their Nay vote. Anyone out there who live in their districts or understands this please enlighten me.

From the Churchill Centre, the summation of a speech by Winston Churchill.

Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.

By the time of the 2012 elections, he’ll be able to say the deficit has come down steadily. Who cares about 2013 and beyond as long as he gets reelected in 2012?

  • djemi

    As of 2006

This diary gives me another chance to post this

  • Husker

I am also a fellow Nebraskan, and I’d hardly characterize Senator Nelson (D, NE) as a conservative Democrat. He’s an opportunist Democrat in the mold of McCain an opportunist Republican.

If you recall, Ben Nelson was the ringleader on the push to pass the $800 Billion Porkulus bill through the Senate.

  • drohan00

But if you are a conservative and you had to have one Democrat, and you had your choice among current Congresscritters and Senators… I think Ben would be the guy.

He is right on the life issue.
He is right on the gun issue.
And he did support the porkulus, so he’s not perfect, but he’s better than a lot of the other Democrats from other/neighboring states.

We missed out when we didn’t elect Stenberg in 2000.

  • semperfione

The Senate finally got the point that House Republicans got the day Obama was sworn into Office. I would like to personally thank my Senator, John Cornyn. I have been sending him emails lately, but I am sure that had nothing to do with it. I don’t care if they lost, I am proud for once Republicans stood up for PRINCIPLE. Let me also thank whomever it was in the Senate that convinced Specter, Snowe, and Collins not to stab their fellow Republicans in the back. I have been hearing all of this crap about there not being a Leader in the Republican Party and of the Party’s demise. Whoever pulled that off gets my vote in 2012 and 2016 too….that is if I am not living in “Cuba” by then.

  • Husker

but it irritates the heck out of me when I know it was he who started the momentum going on this reckless spending spree.

Once that bill passed, I knew the Democratic leadership wouldn’t risk another public relations fiasco like what happened with that bill, instead opting for a reconciliation vote. I won a $100 bet on that.

I agree, we did screw up not electing Stenberg, but he had an uphill battle running against a popular Governor. Do we have anybody in mind to oppose Nelson in 2012?

  • http://www.RedState.com/ETCartman Kenny Solomon

Knew something was wrong…. didn’t think my Bill would say no to The One’s Bill.

    Se La Vie.

  • drohan00

Dave Heineman would beat him. If Governor Heineman announced he was running for Senate, he would trounce him.

He is the best organized Republican politician in Nebraska since Carl Curtis and Roman Hruska.

Remember, Ben was an original member of the “The One’s” campaign. He will have Obama tied around his neck, which will be like having corn-borers tied there as well.

Suburban Omaha won’t like the Obama tax increase. And I live in the far western panhandle where we already spray for Democrats. So I think we can beat him.
