FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

Strictly business, Madam Speaker.

A pair of stories (HT: Hot Air Headlines, here and here) illustrate the sudden appearance of troubles for the Speaker of the House rather neatly. First, the general:

Democrats: CIA is out to get us

Democrats charged Tuesday that the CIA has released documents about congressional briefings on harsh interrogation techniques in order to deflect attention and blame away from itself.

and now, the specific:

Source: Aide told Pelosi waterboarding had been used

WASHINGTON (CNN) — A source close to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi now confirms that Pelosi was told in February 2003 by her intelligence aide, Michael Sheehy, that waterboarding was actually used on CIA detainee Abu Zubaydah.

This appears to contradict Pelosi’s account that she was never told waterboarding actually happened, only that the administration was considering using it.

Which is a nice way of putting it*.

Couple this with Steny Hoyer’s recent call for an investigation that includes the Speaker… well. I suppose that Ms. Pelosi can take some comfort in knowing that there’s nothing really personal about this, at least on the CIA’s part. They’d just rather have Hoyer in your spot; he’s the kind of Democrat that they like to be running things. It was generally OK to leave you there when Bush was in office, but with this new guy… yeah, better to have somebody that isn’t quite as ready to encourage the President’s enthusiasms.

So. “It’s not personal, Nancy. It’s strictly business.

I’ve always felt, even when disagreeing with him, that his positions are measured and honest. He’d be ten times the speaker Pelosi has been, and I’m sure he knows it.

  • johnt

to this, there just couldn’t. It must be a conspiracy.
So another insight into the totalitarian & paranoid minds of Democrats. The little people of the left will just eat it up, it interferes with Bush hatred and just reeks of differing opinions and additional facts.

We do NOT want Pelosi gone.

What we want is Pelosi bloodied and weakened, but still in control.

With Hoyer in charge, it’s that much more likely Obama will successfully get at least some of his agenda through the House.

We may have to rally to Pelosi’s defense before the end of this – she’s too valuable to our side to get rid of before 2010 – she’s incompetent *and* makes a good Boogeyman(Woman).

  • NotSoBlueStater

Because Hoyer is a good man who agrees with Obama on most things, I suspect he’d be effective and even attractive at times to the wobbly on the Republican side. That would be a good thing for Obama and his plans, obviously.

It has been true all along that as effective as Reid and Pelosi have been in undermining the Republicans, their duplicity was destined to wear thin. They need to be replaced, and the longer that takes, the better for the Republicans.

the more I am starting to think The One has his finger on getting rid of Pelosi. Better to have One Divine being calling the shots and not two, right? Hasn’t she bucked him several times already on legislation? There can be only one power, and The One will not share it with anyone… Me thinks this is a calculated inside job to rid congress of Pelosi.

  • Common_Cents

She might be left out in the cold and thrown under the bus. Her counter would be knowing too much and willing to blab.

CIA is THE spy agency. They need to protect their men(who make the real and dangerous moves) from this garbage. Hoyer probably is moving in for the kill. I think Obama knew CIA will leak stuff out and call the bluff in order to protect themselves. I think Obama wants to knock Pelosi out.

    That is raw politics. Classic.

Playing with fire can be dangerous.

Mr. Hoyer please keep going… You are doing great.

The Dems are whining about CIA leaks. They sure did love the CIA conduit to the NYT during Bush’s 8 years, but now it’s a horrible threat to national security if the CIA releases anything that proves Pelosi is a liar.

    BEE – YOU – TEE – FULL!!

The same Democrats who loved CIA leaks during the Bush Administration deserve to be destroyed by them now. Karma and all…

In Demo-Speak, “out to get me” means “tell the truth about my record”. So, yeah, that is pretty much what is happening. It couldn’t happen to a nicer lot of human-like rot.

Hoyer, along with every other elected Democrat in Washington DC, is part and parcel with the enemies of this Nation.

There’s a really hot place in Hell for Hoyer and it’s well earned.

  • IJB

But Hoyer’s still more dangerous than Pelosi because he’s that much more competent.

so that all can come in and enjoy at their leisure :-)

  • zeebeach

don’t we want what’s best for the country? And I can’t see how Pelosi is good for America in any way. Hoyer is better for the U.S.

  • izoneguy

That we don’t want to totally get rid of a devil because the other devil is even worse?

All the devils should be destroyed. Period.

Apparently Pelosi and Obama forgot something: the CIA KILLS people… it’s in their job description. Did these two really think that these killers were going to take-one-for-the-team… when the team captain is a lying, incompetent, arrogant nebbish who has basically told them they need to kiss his ring? -please
    -
Obama really kicked an ant hill with his ill-advised and politically motivated release of Bush Administration memos regarding EITs.
    -
Let’s have a hearing and get it all out there, shall we? Then watch the rats scatter who attacked Bush for protecting the country from terrorist attack… but who clearly knew what was going on five years before we heard a peep out of them.

This is awesome!! If I had known about it, I would have put it in my diary about Pelosi stepping down (I would have put it under the SNL video).

I would like to put this in the comments section of my diary as an “update” and I will definitely give you a hat tip. However, if you are going to use this in a diary, then I don’t want to steal your thunder. Please let me know, because if you are not going to put it in a diary, then I would love to use it as an “update” to mine. :-)

  • vettepilot

Here’s hoping that the Dems continue to belittle the folks at Langley with this kind of drivel. I bet that the CIA is probably sitting on a nice stockpile of memos and documents that it would just love to let loose right now. Ultimately, they likely realize that they don’t have very many friends in the Legislative branch and none at all in the Executive. If the Dems in Congress keep this up, they could be facing death by thousand cuts from continuous small leaks or a nuclear option from several well-timed big leaks.

The duplicity of it all just boggles the mind… Of course, now they’ll just wait until these current leaks clear the news cycle and then they’ll start decrying any of these memos from getting out…

  • NotSoBlueStater

I said bad for Republicans. Whether or not that’s bad for the country is a matter of debate. As a fiscal conservative, I think what’s happening now is a disaster for the country. Mr. Hoyer does not. That doesn’t make him evil or duplicitous. It just makes him wrong.

Won’t make me any friends here, but I think that Hoyer is a man who, compared to Reid and Pelosi, is somebody who is just a liberal. He’s not a pathological liar like the other two.

I have no problem with people who actually seem to believe what they are saying.

  • NotSoBlueStater

People who disagree with you ideologically couldn’t possibly be good, now could they?

All I know is, when Pelosi was screaming “Bush Lied! Kids Died!” every day, Hoyer was instead making sane counterarguments against the war. That won him something in my book, even though I didn’t agree with him.

Pelosi is a creation of a world where the truth just doesn’t matter, as long as you’re whacking the other guy with a big stick. Hoyer, IMHO, is not.
