‘Boehner to Pelosi: Put Up, or Shut Up.’

Whoops! I was channeling Maureen Dowd there, for a moment*.

Anyway, the title is of course from Hot Air Headlines, and it refers to this story:

GOP leader: Pelosi should show proof or apologize

WASHINGTON (CNN) — A key Republican leader demanded Sunday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi produce evidence to back up her assertion that she was misled by the CIA on the use of so-called “enhanced interrogation techniques.”

[snip]

“Lying to the Congress of the United States is a crime,” House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“If the speaker is accusing the CIA and other intelligence officials of lying or misleading the Congress, then she should come forward with evidence and turn that over to the Justice Department so they be prosecuted. And if that’s not the case, I think she ought to apologize to our intelligence professionals around the world.”

Personally, I look forward with some interest to what the Speaker’s explanation tomorrow will be. She’s had a day in hiding – excuse me; ‘first Communion’ – to come up with something good. The GOP will be happy to hear the latest version of it, whatever it is – and, contra this particular article – we’re not especially worried that her negatives will be, well, negated by Dick Cheney’s. That’s because this conversation has very little to do with who is liked; it has to do with who is credible. There’s a lot of things that you can say about Pelosi’s performance right now; ‘credible’ isn’t one of them.

With a straight face, at least.

*Sheesh, Ms. Dowd: the people who read sites like Talking Points Memo are the only ones left reading your stuff any more. It makes absolutely no sense ripping off material that they’re going to be familiar with. Try something like this, next time. Trust me, they’ll never twig to it.

To those who will try to Troll-jack this thread...

[Troll Torture dismissal Form-Comment, I keep this handy since it always comes up]

Many Diaries exist see here covering all that including how water-boarding is NOT torture and the UN agreement the US is part of, how Democrats still do NOT pass a law to declare it such and/or PROHIBIT it (even as an EIT), the memos diversion, and on and on…

Again, if you want it to be known as Torture your lefty loons in Congress could so make it so by passing a new Law stating that it would now be considered Torture… They have NOT attempted to do so since they took power in 2006… Nor will they now… They know it is a LOSER and they will NOT give up the EIT’s under a Democrat despite their BS rhetoric about it. You waste time and space with that easily refuted crap and we are NOT going to waste our time when we’ve covered it countless times already (see the above link to other RS links).

There are many Diaries here at RedState that already refute all the Democrat Talking-points contentions and I am sorry but I do not have the time to cover that ground again. A simple google search within RedState will yield that information and I invite you, and hope you will, look over the many thoughtful Articles that provide some additional Facts, Quotes, Links, etc, (on top of this one and maybe even some from the same author of the Diary this conversation is taking place in) on this topic and/or the things you (parroted) brought up (Election Issues recap [with links]).

TRY AND STAY ON TOPIC IN THIS ONE!!

It's just formallity at this point

If the Lefties see their congressional “leader” apologize for accusing the CIA of anything, they’ll replace her faster than you can say “Steny Hoyer”. Democratic politics are controlled by the “9/11 Truthers” after all.

And if they don’t, well we get a great platform to attack the Democrats on in 2010. Another one, anyway

If the Congressional GOP cowers in the corner *again* when the Speaker of the House liked (repeatedly) to the nation, and defamed the entire Intelligence community then they aren’t worth working for, giving money to, saving, etc.

We should be attacking, vehemently, *now*, to set up for 2010. This isn’t brain surgery – why are GOP politicians so *worthless*?!

"Lied", Not "Liked". Erg.

It’s not like she’s gonna go to jail or anything. The only thing that would happen is that Hoyer would become Speaker. That would be a bad thing for us, he’s competent. Now if we were sure than Murtha would replace her…

Speaking of crimes...

anotherindyfilmguy (Diary) Monday, May 18th at 12:22AM EST (link)

Shouldn’t Congress (and House) critters lying to America be a crime? Wait wasn’t she essentially telling Congress a lie?
Could she be convicted of a felony offense and tossed out of the House for that?
Oh…. wait a second… forgot that Congresscritters and the like consider lying to everyone else a sport…

Santorum? Well, at least he’s not Romney…

“Lying to the American People from the Halls of Congress is a federal crime”

But in all honesty it’s one of those powers that would come back to bite us in the ass when the Liberals become the ones who determine what “Lying” is (because the will)

how the Iraq War would have unfolded with a decent guy like Martin Frost as leader of the Democrats. Not to blame Pelosi for all of our problems in the Mideast. But now we have proof of her engaging in craven opportunism on the issue of waterboarding. It’s worth considering the damage her posturing has done to our nation’s image abroad.

This is not just another case of a politician lying.

Note to David Brooks: this is what we mean when we call Pelosi a “San Francisco liberal”. The City is proudly out of touch with mainstream American values, like supporting our troops. It is the “Blame America First” city.

There are some decent people in SF. But they’re all isolated from the levers of power.

To Bush's credit, I don't think the Iraq War would have unfolded any differently

6eorge Jetson (Diary) Monday, May 18th at 1:58AM EST (link)

Bush stuck to his guns throughout his presidency, and steadfastly pursued what he thought was right.

Of course, hindsight is 20/20, and so, sitting comfortably in front of our screens, it’s easy to say that we should have employed the Paetreus strategy of a greater emphasis on the security of the Iraqi people backed by the “surge” of troops to maintain a constant presence in key Iraqi neighborhoods and cities.

Fortunately for the 50 million freed Iraqis, and for the free world as a whole, Pelosi was merely nuisance compared to the stalwart Bush in the critical dark hours of the Iraq war.

Unfortunately, she and her ilk are in a position to do damage to more than just our “image” today.

I disagree.

Bush let his political capital get zapped and left very few options/support for Iraq.

Not to mention the tremendous damage Bush caused Reps and conservatives by not taking on the MSM and left. Tony Snow (RIP) was too little, too late.

We need more people like Gingrich who will take them to task on the spot like he embarrassed that “gotcha” reporter at the RNC.

My comments were directed narrowly to the unfolding of the Iraq war

6eorge Jetson (Diary) Monday, May 18th at 10:22AM EST (link)

On the homefront, I agree 100%

“Bush let his political capital get zapped…

“Not to mention the tremendous damage Bush caused Reps and conservatives by not taking on the MSM and left. Tony Snow (RIP) was too little, too late.”

However, as to the narrow unfolding of the war in Iraq

“…and left very few options/support for Iraq.”

the successful surge strategy was initiated at the low point of support for the Iraqi war (early 2007). So I don’t see how the claim “lack of support hindered the war effort” reconciles with the fact that success was forged with minimal public support.

What Paetreus accomplished was remarkable, and I don’t think you are giving him enough credit by implying that the turn of events following the surge was inevitable. It wasn’t that easy.

History will also look favorably upon Bush for holding out, giving the free world a chance for the good fortune that Paetreus brought.

Fmr. CIA Operative: Pelosi is a Pathological Liar

Britcom (Diary) Monday, May 18th at 2:22AM EST (link)

Wayne Simmons is a Former CIA Operative, and Intelligence and Terrorism analyst. He sits on the Advisory Council for the Intelligence Summit, is a contributor to the conservative publication Human Events. He was recruited by the CIA in 1973 while in the U.S. Navy. He became part of an Outside Paramilitary Special Operations Group where he spent 8 of his 27 year career working against Narco Terrorists and was one of the first outside Intelligence officers to visit GITMO (Guantanamo Bay, Cuba) in July, 2005 and again in July, 2006.

Nancy Pelosi served on, and was the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee until her election as Minority Leader of the House prior to becoming Speaker.

Simmons told Fox News on Live television that; “Nancy Pelosi … is a pathological liar.”

Pelosi is a no-talent hack

reaganiterepublicanresistance Monday, May 18th at 6:26AM EST (link)

Barack Obama kicked an ant-hill with his ill-advised and politically-motivated release of the Bush Administration’s EIT memos.

Let’s have some hearings and get it all out there- shall we? Then watch and see how all the rats scatter that were well-aware of what was going on, and condoned it with their silence for five years… but subsequently demonized George W Bush for such techniques when the interrogations were made public.

more than Pelosi or the lying politician du jour, is what is wrong w/ our political system that allows these lying idiots to be in power.

It’s a crime that they are allowed to work in government. They could never get a real job in private industry.

I cringe everytime I inadvertantly hear Pelosi, Biden, Obama, et al, talk. It just makes my skin crawl to hear these people attempt to justify what they do, say, etc. Honor and honesty should mean something to these people…

As an aside, I was talking to a Twenty-something last week and he used the term “Baracking” as a complementary expression. I detest the idea of using that as a term expressing approval. I have started using the term “Baracking” as a verb. My definition is: To Barack; to mislead in a deceitful or hypocritical manner. Therefore Nancy isn’t lying, she’s Baracking. Words enter the language all the time, it would be nice if the conservative community could get out front on this word and sway the meaning to our point of view.
