Why are we not selling military equipment to a democratic ally?

Administration blocks helicopters for Israel due to civilian casualties in Gaza

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has blocked Israel’s request for advanced U.S.-origin attack helicopters.

Government sources said the administration has held up Israel’s request for the AH-64D Apache Longbow attack helicopter. The sources said the request was undergoing an interagency review to determine whether additional Longbow helicopters would threaten Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.

If this pleases you, by the way, consider that the administration doesn’t have the guts to do any of this openly.  Saying one thing in public and doing another in private is a behavior pattern that most of us were supposed to discard by the time we graduated high school; I grant that this is honored more in the breach than the observance, but we expect more from our leaders.  If the White House wants to disarm Israel, it should do it in public and take the heat…

Yes, I’m a blind, mad optimist. Almost dangerously so, in fact.  But… but… this isn’t right.

    You see, he’s so awesome! All the American Jews who voted for him sure knew what they were doing. He is awfully dreamy, isn’t he? He looks just like Will Smith or Denzel Washington in his suit. Dreamy!!! Israel doesn’t need more military equipment to protect it from Iran, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Hamas and Hezbollah. That country just needs more Obama!

    Then I realize that he isn’t…because the plan has already been written, encrypted and loaded into TOTUS for easy access.

    Yeah I know that isn’t really any better, but at least I know he isn’t staying up past his bedtime.

    I can’t tell you exactly what was said, because it was distinctly not nice, but we believe it goes back to his childhood.

    He was raised to believe two things:

    1. Jews were oppressors.

    2. Blacks were oppressed.

    In a child’s mind (and in an adult’s mind if he’s not smart enough to sort out the propaganda from the simple truth) Jews are bad. I don’t think he’s ever sorted that out in his own mind, but is instead reacting with a visceral feeling of himself or his kind being threatened.

    We’re coming to war, guys. Real war. The kind of war that involves lots of people dying and lots more suffering. The kind that involves the term “For the duration.” We’re due for one. It’s been 65 years and institutional memory has faded. I just hope that America doesn’t try to fight this one with one hand and both feet tied, as we have tried to fight Iraq and Afghanistan. Because this one is going to involve China, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Russia and us. That’s a lot of firepower and a lot of cannon fodder.

    If war does start between Israel and Iran it will be interesting to see if Iran can repel the forces from within.

    And if war does start between Israel and Iran then Obama himself has pushed the situation to that point. By not supporting Israel and trying to wage peace with Iran is just an epic failure of foreign policy.
