Let us recap the Gerald Walpin situation.

We can begin with this video, which goes over the basic points:

Short version: Walpin was investigating Obama crony’s involvement in an AmeriCorps-related scandal involving misappropriation of funding. Case was settled, to the mild detriment of crony*. Walpin disagreed with settlement. Complaint made against him. So far, this is all he-said, he-said.

Then the White House tried to force out Walpin; Walpin, well aware of his rights, made them go through the process. At this point, Senator Charles Grassley – Republican – stepped in, as IG issues are one of his interests. Grassley would also like to know if the First Lady’s office is involved in this somehow, given that her CoS is going over to run the Corporation for National and Community Service, who Walpin was also responsible for oversight over. Meanwhile, Senator Claire McCaskill – Democrat – has also stepped in, as she too is usually associated with IG protection. That makes this officially a matter of bipartisan concern, which means that the White House of course is doing everything it can to address said concerns seriously.

I’m kidding, of course. No, what the White House is actually doing, of course, is trying to imply that Walpin’s senile:

WASHINGTON — Responding to criticism from a Senate Democratic ally, President Obama explained why he fired the Inspector General of the AmeriCorps without the 30-day notification required by law, calling Gerald Walpin so “confused” and “disoriented” that there was reason to question “his capacity to serve.”

As Ed Morrissey noted, believing that this was the White House’s primary motive requires that you believe that the administration’s instinctive, immediate reaction to seeing an employee come down with a debilitating disease is to fire them. Yes. That is precisely the thing that one does when one wishes to maintain a reputation for empathy and tolerance. I can’t say that I have as much difficulty as Michelle Malkin reconciling the allegation of Walpin’s mental diminished capacity with his public appearances (see the video above), mostly because neither I nor Ms. Malkin can take it at all seriously…

too bad he is just another community organizer abusing tax payers wallets.

this guy is fired for being “confused” and “disoriented” yet joe biden still has his job.

I was lucky enough to be at the game when KJ jammed over Olajuwon. One of the most unbelievably athletic plays I’ve seen in my life. The place went nuts.

I was hoping for better from him in his post-playing days.

    Sigh!

  • rsss

Me too…and he was one of Bush 41′s “Thousand Points of Light”, Thought he was going to be a good example of an NBA athlete who had successful endeavors after his basketball career ended. I am disappointed that he is involved in this fiasco.

I am heartened that Mr. Walpin is fighting back, hopefully Congress will continue to call out this illegal firing by President Obama.

  • johnt

Yes, the O has studied the play book, and not just the Alinsky one.
Just another step on to outright gangsterism while our media dozes away, content their journalism school hopes and dreams for a controlled society are realized.
    Stalin would approve.

  • Tbone

if the company’s CEO would have come out and said he fired an old guy because he was confused at a meeting. Like, dude, say hello to your new major shareholder.

Anyone call the AARP for comment?

To keep it manageable, we will only go back as far as the ’08 Presidential campaign.

People who have been PERSONALLY attacked by the Obamites and their acolytes:

    Joe the Plumber
    Carrie Prejean
    Gerald Walpin
    Thomas Lauria
    Rick Scott
    Willow Palin

Feel free to add to the list…..

  • The_Gadfly

That’s The Big 0′s minion Walpin held accountable, not a Republican. Jeesh! Where have you been?

But yeah, anybody anywhere in the HR chain of command at a regular job would be having a heart attack any of the corporate officers had publicly said what The Big 0 did. Most of the other corporate officers would be too. I imagine the same thing would apply in most unelected government offices too.

  • sloeride

What an ignorant and disgusting line of attack. Barry figured out he could get away with charge of “confusion” and “disorientation” because dude is 77 years old.

Will someone stand up for old folks? Maybe one of our 114 Senators will…

  • Tbone

How many Senators are older than this guy, anyway?

  • nyindy

He’s shown that he’s quite willing to throw former supporters under the bus. Political expediency over loyalty has been his MO since Wright blew up in his face.

  • JadedByPolitics

and notified them that I didn’t like when President Bush gave preferential treatment to his cronies and I find it quite hypocritcal that the nation voted for CHANGE only to find that the same ole same ole is happening. Both of my Senator’s are Democrats and both of their phone personnel shared the fact that they are getting numerous calls about this and that the Senate is looking into it. I am no sucker and I can tell you these two young people were telling the truth….CALL YOUR SENATOR’s ….it is stupid things like this that nip at the heels of Presidents….so get to it!

  • Tbone

and ‘m not nearly as old as these guys. LOL

  • izoneguy

like a 500,000 watt light on the corruption of Obama and his cronies.
Walpin needs to stay out in the sunlight and expose Obama for the fraud he his. That is if Obama does not bump him off first.

  • Just_Saying

Older people may not have the immediately at hand, but that doesn’t make them incompetent or liars. Often times people are great speakers, but have no real brains or integrity. (You know who I mean…)

Just because Walpin may have been searching for words a time or two does not make him confused — it makes him human. Walpin got the shaft because he was making honest (but unfairable) observations about the organization he was charged to oversee. Obummer should be ashamed of himself, but he has no shame.

As has been said earlier, where’s the AARP? It seems like either AARP is not up to speed, or has sipped the Kool Aid…
    .

  • Just_Saying

Oops — first phrase should be:

“Older people may not have the word immediately at hand…”
    (spooky that that happened…)

for calling Walpin “confused and disoriented” then Obama ought to listen to himself when the TOTUS isn’t around. On his trips to Europe when he had that press conference with Geman PM Merkel I swear I saw her smirk a time or two when he answered questions with his typical off-TOTUS “um… err… (lenghty pause)…ahhh’s”.

  • E Pluribus Unum

On the occasion in question, he was asked by the Board to leave the room for 15 minutes while they argued amongst themselves. Upon his return, he found his papers all out of order.

This led directly to the presumed confused state.

  • TNJim

By the most ethical administration in history? How dare you! Insulting Chicago style politics like that!

Seriously though, it just goes to show Walpin’s only failure in his capacity to serve was going after one of Obama’s buddies.

    This is just so awful.

Walpin said that the White House had called him several times recently about his support for Sotomayor — since Walpin’s considered a “conservative.”

In fact, the White House had called enough that Walpin thought the termination call was going to be just another consultation on the Supreme Court nominee. He was stunned.

    So let’s get this straight:
POTUS and the gang wanted to consult with Walpin to bolster the Supreme Court nominee. That seems to imply that Walpin’s opinions were cogent.

But then, Walpin was thrown under the bus as to his professional abilities — with nothing less than an ageist accusation.

A cynic might think that POTUS wanted to keep calling Walpin to make him feel a little more warmly toward that administration. But maybe Walpin didn’t feel sufficiently warm to drop his investigation of KJ, and that ultimately did him in.

    The Obama touch:
From consultant to pariah within days or weeks.

    Yuk.

until they can no longer avoid covering the “illegal firing” of the IG.

Note: President Obama circumvented the law that Sen. Obama co-sponsored in 2007.

Voice your support for Sen. Grassley’s effort to uncover the truth about the firing of the IG. The text of Sen. Grassley’s letter to the President is here.
