They had a court order. Fausta updated:

Indeed, Honduras’ La Prensa states that (My translation: If you use this, please credit me and link to this post)An official statement of the Supreme Court of Justice explained that the Armed Forces acted under lawful grounds when detaining the President of the Republic, and by decommissioning the materials to be used on the illegal poll which aimed to bring forth Executive Power against a judicial order.Other sources verified that the president of the Congress, Roberto Micheletti, will assume the presidency of the republic in a few hours.

Honduran president Manuel Zelaya was detained this morning by the military in compliance with an order of the courts of law.
Meanwhile, the foreign policy experts over at State and the White House* have gone into, bluntly, full Ugly American mode: they’re currently declining to recognize the right of the Hondurans to remove their own head of state on constitutional grounds. Apparently, when it’s a choice between a chief executive on the one hand and said chief executive’s country’s judiciary, legislature, military, and own political party on the other… well, it all apparently depends on what Hugo Chavez thinks.
Let’s just hope that they don’t ask Chavez what he thinks about the Jews.

PS: Let me expand on that just a little. I don’t think that this administration is slavishly following Chavez’s lead: I think that they care so little about South American affairs that accommodating their stance to that of a darling of the radical Left seems to them to be a no-brainer. If the White House is worried about getting the answer to this wrong, it’s not immediately obvious.

Shhhhh, don't make so much noise while The White House is meddling.
Kenny Solomon Sunday, June 28th at 9:15PM EDT (link)Last I heard, Hillary is telling Chavez he can’t use those 5,000 centrifuges to make Hamas agree to not expand their territory to include whatever square mile of ocean a nuke-carrying ship happens to be sailing.
Meanwhile, at the putting green, good ol’ President Jihadist is talking with VP Footinmouth about Teh Eeeeevil Jooooooooooos and how they must give up all territory in Brooklyn and Miami Beach before the French can surrender to The Dali Lama.
…. or something like that.
See how easy this gets ?
Cheers !
Of course you can have my guns……. Bullets first.
I didn’t say rounds, shells or magazines……
I said bullets first.
The only regime change this administration is carrying out
civil_truth Sunday, June 28th at 9:28PM EDT (link)…is against the Israeli government. They are determined to force Israel to surrender it’s territory and will utilize the divisions between the multiple parties to install a regime to its liking.
Apparently it’s only our allies whose government our adminstration wants to overthrow. Then again, it’s looking like we’re switching sides.
Or is it (Jewish) blood for oil? Perhaps it’s time we borrow a hoary slogan from the left’s playbook…

* Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, blamed “the Yankee empire”, and threatened military action should the Venezuelan ambassador to Honduras be attacked; President Evo Morales of Bolivia described Mr Zelaya’s removal as “an assault on democracy”
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/06/28/obama-calls-order-military-arrests-honduran-president/
Zelaya, in a move similar to his ally, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, had wanted to overturn the law that prohibited him from seeking another term in office. He called the arrest a “coup” and a “kidnapping.”
“I am deeply concerned by reports coming out of Honduras regarding the detention and expulsion of President Mel Zelaya,” Obama said in a written statement.
——————
Obama should be. Zelaya was attempting to re-write his country’s constitution in order to run for another term (and another, and another). This desire to gain and keep control over the people runs through all of those who want to rule. It is human nature. The Honduras Supreme Court ruled that he could not do it, and he decided to try anyway. His problem was the military had enough guns and apparently the guts to say “enough is enough.” It must give anyone, from ANY country pause when they realize if they violate the laws of their nation’s constitution somebody might come along and give them a short plane ride to another country (or worse!).
There are a number of “leaders” across the world who seem intent on remaking their nation and driving socialism or even a dictatorship over the bodies of their citizens like a tank. Again, I wonder if Biden’s statement was that of soothsayer when he said Obama would face challenges soon after he took office, or did Obama send a quiet message to all of those who seek dictatorships that “all is well.”
Of course Obama is upset about his fellow traveler being
Tbone Sunday, June 28th at 10:39PM EDT (link)subjected to laws with which he doesn’t agree. “Peas in a pod” comes to mind.

izoneguy Sunday, June 28th at 11:56PM EDT (link)Who do you think kept the Honduran Military trained?
Answer: Not Barack Obama.
Countries like Honduras do not want to fall into the leftisit trap.
They know Obama is dangerous. Maybe they will help free us someday.

SOTO CANO AIR BASE, Honduras (9/21/2007) - Airborne infantrymen from the Texas Army National Guard’s 36th Infantry Division shared their small weapons training expertise with an elite group of Honduran military professionals on Sept. 11-13.
After two days of aiming at targets, paratroopers from both countries aimed at something much larger: the terra firma lying 1,500 feet below them.
Members of the 143rd Infantry Detachment (Long Range Surveillance) supported one of the training and mentoring programs of U.S. Army South (USARSO) by joining their Honduran counterparts for weapons familiarization and urban infantry tactics to enhance their skills. Repetitive training benefits not only students, but also instructors and demonstrators.
Plans officer Maj. Clarence Henderson said he expects USARSO’s small unit familiarization program (SUFP) to gain momentum next year under the leadership of Col. Rick R. Riera, USARSO’s director of operations, who is a strong supporter of multinational training.
The SUFP pairs U.S. Soldiers with those from Central and South America partnership nations to foster an environment of mutual learning, respect and familiarity with their brothers-in-arms.

So, let me get this straight:
Tanggor Monday, June 29th at 12:04AM EDT (link)The Honduran President was detained and removed via a legitimate court order due to that President’s insistence on violating their constitution.
A legitimate court order.
Hey!
How can WE get one of those? Do they have an extra one we could borrow?
The whole situation sounds a lot like home…
I’d love to see Obambi frog-marched out of the White House.

Apparently Obama is criticizing the Honduran coup because he doesn't want to give his constituents ideas.

NateD Monday, June 29th at 5:36AM EDT (link)so after cap and tax, Healthcare, and Stimulus Part Deux; is congress looking to repeal the 2 term restrictions on the Presidency so the “ONE” can bless us with his abilities to “Rebuild” America in his image?
I can’t help but feel optimism personally I think the Pendulum is gonna start swingin the other way soon, BHO can’t possibly mount a comeback in 2012. While I dont wish for our military to orchestrate the removal of a sitting president, I’m hoping we have our own “Coup” at the ballot box come 2010-2012.
Like Iran, this is a gross miscalculation by Obama
Marcus_Traianus Monday, June 29th at 9:00AM EDT (link)Any person with cursory knowledge of Latin American affairs will see Obama’s policy as a grotesque democratic miscalculation. He can try to hide behind the opaque veneer of Hillary’s skirt, but nobody I know is buying the deflection.
If anything, American’s should be troubled by Mr. Obama’s refusal to support nascent democratic movements which are grounded in an innate human quest for freedom and in the case of Honduras, basic constitutional principals.
Like Iran, Mr. Obama and his administration are now on record, twice, opposing the basic precepts of free societies. He has signaled that American support for democracy has now taken a back seat to supporting dictatorships, theocracy’s, oligarchies and any challenge to the state’s power.
What a sad day it is for our country and those around the world with aspirations for freedom when their primary benefactor becomes one of the opposition.
“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. One side believes it best done by one composition of the governing powers; the other, by a different one. One fears most the ignorance of the people; the other, the selfishness of rulers independent of them. Which is right, time and experience will prove.”.Thomas Jefferson

Whoever violates this law or proposes its reform, as well as those that support such violation directly or indirectly, will immediately cease in their functions and will be unable to hold any public office for a period of 10 years.
Another revealing moment for Obama

Redstate has written a good background article on the Honduras situation. In a comment below the article there is a link to more stories. You should read them. The march to socialism in Honduras was pushed by Chavez. Now we have Clinton and Obama backing the ex-president.
Strange bedfellows and a message of caution.
Update from Hot Air:
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/06/29/coups-interference-and-the-shifting-standards-of-obama/
It seems we meddle when meddling suits Obama and his drive for socialist dictators to be put in place in this hemisphere. Hotair acts surprised, but either they are being coy or they are simply not getting, yet. Obama is a dictator in waiting, doing his best to undermine our nation in the same fashion of Chavez and other socialist dictators in Central and South America.
It is funny how the MSM used to complain about how communist controlled media would spout the party line and refuse to report the truth of what is happening. Now we see our own media becoming a government organ and I stand in horror over the prospect that we are sprinting down the same path as our lesser cousins. It is funny in a way that as “civilized” as we claim to be, the people of Honduras seem to get it right, and we can’t.
