FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

“Shut up, she explained.”

While I agree with Ed Morrissey that seeing Senator Jim DeMint make Senator Kay Hagan admit several times that there was a double standard in the way that they killed his call for a GAO audit of the Federal Reserve (a very popular House initiative) while not applying the same rule to their own pet clauses, I also agree that it was prefaced by what some might consider somewhat dry (but necessary) exposition. So here’s a cut-down version:

Very quickly: Sen DeMint of South Carolina is trying to put in an amendment calling for an audit of the Federal Reserve into a bill, so that it can be voted on. Senator Nelson of Nebraska promptly pops up and calls for the amendment to be removed, as not being germane: Senator Hagan of North Carolina promptly approves that call. DeMint then goes on to mention specific other clauses that would also apply, in order to get Hagan to a) admit that they fall under the same rule and b) highlight the fact that they won’t be removed, too. The fact that I think that this is funny no doubt says awful things about my sense of humor, after going on eight years being involved in following politics; but it never hurts to highlight hypocrisy.

We will now pause for the inevitable “You guys were just as bad!” ‘response,’ which is of course a code phrase for I must immediately attack anything that threatens to destroy my faith in the inherent virtue of the Democratic Party. Given recent polling, I have hopes for some truly entertaining exercises in denial.

PS: Senator DeMint will be at the RS Gathering, by the way.

Aside from the people who actually care about the nuts and bolts of politics and legislation, this hypocrisy is going to net us 0 votes.

Additionally, I sure hope Senator DeMint makes sure that he challenges every single amendment possible under these parliamentary rules. If nothing else, he could tie up bad legislation for a few extra hours while we light up the phones.

…watching your edit made my damned headache return.
The blatant hypocrisy of the statist portside is inspiring.

    I’m inspired.

I’d like to share my frustration with some of my acquainted “independents” parliamentary procedure doesn’t sell well to the pedestrian (and the original Morrisey catch at 9 minutes is 8:45 too long). They get to vote, I’d like to help them do the right thing.

I know you’re busy, and it sucks to re-visit a thought… but I’d like to share your edit with slow-reading friends and the captions are very rapid.

I’ll respectfully go to hell now.

    Best regards.

She knew exactly what he was doing and was obviously begging for help from her colleagues or the staff.

These are exactly the sorts of things that should cause GOP Senators to unite in filibuster mode.

Crashed my computer a dozen or more times trying to make one video of Chuck DeVore on the Assembly floor.
Found Corel Video Studio 12 on base for $29, so I figured “How could it be any worse?”
Works great, can’t be much more than that off base. If you only make a movie once in a while it’s worth it. No ‘sploding Windows.

Twenty-nine bucks is a about a week and a half’s ‘pay’ for me, and the version that I’m using doesn’t blow up… so.

how we elected these bozos and how we regain control. It’s absurd, to have spectacles like this. What have we wrought.

I’m so grateful to have at least one representative in the Senate who cannot be immediately called away because McCain needs a pedicure or colon cleanse . . .

I was wondering why the Democrats would put an intellectual lightweight like Hagan in the Chair, but then I remembered they are ALL lightweights, so what’s the diff?

I must immediately attack anything that threatens to destroy my faith in the inherent virtue of the Democratic Party.

Until we stop seeing inherent virtue in either party, and instead just start picking apart what really happens, nothing will change. To put it another way: There’s nothing more crushing to the soul than a conversation with an otherwise bright person who seems to feel as though either Sean Hannity or Keith Olbermann is a holder of great truths.

…is that the Democrats are openly operating under the principle that there’s one rule for Republicans and another for Democrats.

An embarrassing representative of my state. I hope she gets dressed down at every turn.

Bravo Sen DeMint…I only wish I lived a little further South.

  • olsmithie

Hagan really is an ACORN rubber stamp and true embarrassment.
I watched as the ACORN frauds stole the vote in NC.

Dole was no great prize, but next to Hagan, Dole looked like Ghandi.

Regarding Senator DeMint….In the vernacular of the young folks: “You the Man!”

BTW, is this in XP or Vista?

  • E Pluribus Unum

Knowing that (a) most Americans will not see the video of this, since the treason media won’t cover it, and (b) the Republicans won’t filibuster.

  • NotSoBlueStater

The Democrats are merely the beneficiaries. Lack accountability will bring out this sort of behavior.
