We’re not the ones sending out the blueshirts, *Nancy*.

(Via RS Diarist rechief) Turns out that the Drudge rumor was right: Pelosi & Hoyer really did write an op-ed with the title ‘Un-American’ attacks can’t derail health care debate. And it’s precisely what I expected, too.  Which is to say, an op-ed that can write this:

Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American.

…without even a hint of a sign of a suggestion that the authors mean by that condemnation the physical violence done to conservatives by SEIU members (noted here and here).  Which is actually not surprising: they don’t.  It’s them that are doing it, so it’s by definition OK.   And if you don’t like that observation of mine, then the Democratic party’s leadership is perfectly welcome to prove me wrong by issuing a terse statement saying that they do not support SEIU’s violent tactics.  Until then, they can own the actions of their blueshirts.

So, we can safely ignore their claims for the higher moral ground as the utter nonsense that it is.  No, Pelosi and Hoyer are just incensed over the fact that people aren’t willing to blindly trust Congress with regard to a bill that nobody’s read, particularly after the way that rushing through the last must-pass bill that nobody read merely made matters worse. Worse, people are showing their displeasure in districts that are supposed to be solidly theirs. Even Hoyer isn’t personally immune to having a lot of old, angry people who vote showing up and sounding off.

In 2004 I voted for Steny Hoyer, actually: I figured that he was sound enough on foreign policy. Last time I voted anything except a party ticket, and given how personally embarrassing that vote turned out to be it’ll probably be the last time I do anything else except vote a straight party ticket for a while. Because voting Democratic in national elections gives people like this power.

So don’t.

But I’m afraid they might win the spin with Op-Eds like this. If some prominent Republicans would write their own op-eds, calling out the Democrats for their thuggery, that might be very beneficial.

Yes thats the money line and the one that will get all of the press but its these claims that really get me:

We believe it is healthy for such a historic effort to be subject to so much scrutiny and debate. The failure of past attempts is a reminder that health insurance reform is a defining moment in our nation’s history ? it is well worth the time it takes to get it right. We are confident that we will get this right.

Already, three House committees have passed this critical legislation and over August, the two of us will work closely with those three committees to produce one strong piece of legislation that the House will approve in September.
    ………….
The dialogue between elected representatives and constituents is at the heart of our democracy and plays an integral role in assuring that the legislation we write reflects the genuine needs and concerns of the people we represent.
    …………
Now ? with Americans strongly supporting health insurance reform, with Congress reaching consensus on a plan, and with a president who ran and won on this specific promise of change ? America is closer than ever to this century-deferred goal.

This fall, at long last, we must reach it.

The only historic thing about this thing is the amount of control that it takes for the Feds. And the fact that Nancy, don’t call her Nancy, tried to push this thru before the recess would surgest that in her book it isn’t worth the time to get it right, and call me a flying pig if you think that these clowns can get anything right, as has been pointed out, well everywhere.
As for that one piece of legislation, which will be written by a committee of one, that “reflects the genuine needs and concerns of the people we represent” if your a lefty loon it will be but the other 80%+ of us are going to get turned around and bent over.
As I said if Nancy is trying to claim that the majority of “Americans strongly supporting health insurance reform” I want what ever she is smoking, as long as its legal.

  • bk

Previously she she’s called ICE raids “un-American”. Apparently doing anything that’s perfectly legal but is not part of the left-wing approved speech is considered “un-American”.

Suppose I told you that we’ve been arguing about this for a hundred years, and that right there is the reason that you should shut up and do it my way.

    Would you find that persuasive?

Why do you think anybody else will?

I just cannot for the life of me understand how any level headed democrat could listen to this woman and consider her an asset the their party…… Nancy Pancy, idiot of the ages…

I saw something interesting yesterday on a bumper sticker on the back of a car loaded with Obama stickers..

Fresh new bumper sticker on the window, it said:

DEMOTE NANCY PELOSI…. VOTE REPUBLICAN IN 2010

There are few more despicable ways of drowning out dissent than falsely implying dissenters are a “Nazi zombie menace”: http://optoons.blogspot.com/2009/08/speaker-pelosi-vows-to-stop-spread-of.html (parody)

CliffNotes version: “Don’t fret! We’ve been wrong about this so many times before, we can’t be wrong this time.”

I’m afraid any number of people will see Nancy and the media go “tisk tisk” and think that all those ignorant little protesters are being mean and uncivil and unAmerican. If Nancy talks like she’s reasonable, and is treated by the media like she’s reasonable, they may snooker enough people into believing they’re being the reasonable good guys in all this. Figure in also the normal Republican useful idiots who will parrot the media and Nancy’s talking points. I hope I’m wrong, but I’ve watch too many debates in this country play out with the bad guys having the upper hand to not fear this outcome.

It is said that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Well in the 1920?s and 30?s there was a charismatic entity who rose to power quickly by playing on the anger and fear of his nation. He used the crisis of the day to validate his actions and told the assembled crowds (small at first) what he saw as being wrong with the country and its path.
Today we have the same type of mentality. We have elected a power hungry egotistical charmer who is determined to put his stamp on history. He has willing accomplices who cow tow before him and his policies, which begs the question, where is the power? How can senior members of the elected bodies of both the house and senate be so afraid of this one man? Who are the ones who come in the dark of night to arm twist and threaten their political lives if they fail to fall in line? We may never really know the answer to that.
Now we have union members who openly and now apparently violently try to suppress the average citizen who dare speak against this leader, his surrogates and his policies. It was not long ago that vocal opposition was said by a senior administration official to be our patriotic duty, oh wait that was if you were speaking against the previous administration.
If the so called media were true journalists, they might was to explore and expose the links between these thugs and the various organizations of which they belong. I am confident that there would be someone who would not mind being paid for the inside scoop. But that is not likely to happen, as thye are complicit in the dismantling of this nation and our way of life.
The blue shirts of today are no less dangerous than the brown shirts of the SA in the late 20?s and 30?s. If it were not for the decline of the educational system in this country, these people might actually remember their history and not openly participate in this intimidation. I doubt if any of them would recognize themselves and their actions if it were put in the context of those years of Germany, even though the actions (if not the intent) are very similar.
So because of the decline of education, the rise of ignorance, the fact that they are more interested in Reality TV as opposed to the reality happening around them, they are willing sheep thinking that they are doing something vital for their union as opposed to doing something against their nation.
I guess the words ?Never Again? have also been lost and forgotten.
Don?t back down, don?t be intimidated and if (God forbid) you are injured in an encounter with these Obama Raiders sue them, their union leaders and the union itself. Use their tactics against them, if you can?t find a lawyer who will support your claims there is always small claims court.

they were winning in the spin department. IMO, they are not winning the PR war. Too many videos, to many e-mails,tweets, whatever. Don’t forget many of us (sad to say) have Democrat relatives.

If there is anything getting people’s attention now it is Heath Care. This is the one issue that people immediately sit up and take notice. It affects them directly, more than excessive government spending, cap & tax, more than anything.

The Speaker of the House — particularly when her party controls the White House and the Senate as well — does NOT get to say her views are being “drowned out”!

Where are all those Jefferson-quoting (“Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.”) libs now?

And in this case the guilty criminal is National Health Care….

Look at this info from Open Secrets….

These dems have raked in the most cash from union contributions.

Hoyer tops the list with $3,596,358
Edward Kennedy is 2nd with $2,741,591
    Pelosi is 3rd with $2,737,550

Download a list of contributions from labor PACs to all current members of Congress (including to their candidate committees and leadership PACs) since 1989 here:

Just counter Pelosi and Hoyer un-American accusations with these facts. National Health Care is a Union Trojan Horse…..
The unions will use they tax free insurance status as a recruiting tool if National Health Care is set in place.
