Senate votes to strip ACORN of federal funding, 83-7.

Meet the Child-Whoring Pimp Assistance 7*.

I would like to have all of you read something that came to the MoeLane.com mailbag a few days ago, in response to this post.  I normally don’t bother posting these – I just pass around the funnier examples – but I decided that I’d save this one.

Comment:
Just reminding you that you’re a piece of sh*t. No one cares about Acorn.

Ahem.  Hot Air reports:

Senator Mike Johanns (R-NE) introduced an amendment to the HUD and Transportation appropriation bill to strip ACORN of all federal funding.  A week ago, Johanns wouldn’t have gotten the amendment to the floor.  Today, however, after three straight days of BigGovernment.com’s video exposés of ACORN offices in Washington DC, New York City, and Baltimore offering assistance to pimping, tax evasion, and trafficking in underage Salvadorean girls, Johanns not only got his vote — but he got an impressive bipartisan showing.  The Senate passed the Johanns amendment 83-7.

The nay votes?

  • Dick Durbin (D-IL)
  • Roland Burris (D-IL)
  • Robert Casey (D-PA)
  • Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)
  • Patrick Leahy (D-VT)
  • Bernie Sanders (I-VT)
  • Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)

Well, admittedly we found at least seven nobodies that didn’t care about ACORN. I mean, look at that list. Not very impressive accomplishments from any of them, with the possible exception of Leahy’s ability to get into Batman movies.

*Thank you, @jimgeraghty.

I didn’t read below the fold before checking the vote. I was too angry.

  • clement

If any one else in that list was crowing about their votes on the SCHIP bill on how they are for “the children” they need to get hammered for that vote. At least Schumer had enough brain cells to vote for this.

…..in the normal “we already appropriated the money” take by Congress, the same exact amount of funding has gone to a new organization called “NORCA”.

I didn’t vote for him, but many misguided people in Pennsylvania did. He won because his dad was governor and that’s it. He was hardly at his job when he held auditor general. 2012 will be his Waterloo.

Maybe now we can get Giuliani and/or Pataki to commit against Gillibrand.

  • DavidSage

The Republican leadership has never really challenged ACORN, it took a group of low-budget conservative film makers to take down this organization, or at least make it radioactive from here on out to get Republicans to challenge the organization.

It’s the same thing with Van Jones, again it wasn’t the Republican Party that took him down, it was talk radio.

Also the health care debate, the townhall debates and protests that have probably derailed universal health care really had no leadership or organization from the Republican Party. The Party leaders just sat back and watched.

I’m beginning to question the usefulness of the Republican Party, and it’s leadership. They better start pulling their own weight.

I’m glad Americans are moving towards conservatism, and I’m excited about the grassroots movement that’s being built, but we need a better Republican Party, they have done absolutely NOTHING, and have played no part in our recent victories.

but ACORN changed its name to Community Organizations International back in June when it was having trouble shielding the bullets from voter registration fraud allegations.

ACORN is now Community Organizations International (COI).

To be more accurate, their name should be Community Organizations International of The United States.

Makes you want to turn on an high pressure hose and just wash all of it down a city sewer drain…

Take a gander over at my site and add your comments on my working theory of the role Obama is playing. Is he the hammer or just a chisel somebody else is using to pry our future from us. It fits into what we are talking about now.

There is a reason why so very many Liberals/Progressives would vote to cut funding for ACORN. It’s one of those technicalities that they shove under the door. They vote against a name, ACORN, and still have their funding in place for an organization that will still carry the baton.

I had an Aunt that died from brain cancer a bunch of years ago. For her last few weeks, she didn’t even have the ability to speak anything rational. She was heavily medicated. Tremendous headaches are a part at the end, and, I’m sure Kennedy was heavily medicated as well. There was no way Kennedy was of a right mind to ask to have the law changed to allow the D Governor to appoint his predecessor. That was pure, unadulterated, Democrat game playing, probably by his own family.

  • redtillimdead

Is she psycho! She’ the only one on that list running for re-election next year. We just got a major attack against her. I think this shows that ACORN is very active in IL, with both Durbin and Burris voting against it. Casey is vulnerable to in 2012, so this should help.

  • http://hillbillypolitics.com Steph C

However, the problem is the organization has so many pipelines into the government coffers that cutting off one does little to stop them. I fear cutting off that one just opens the other ones up more.

The Dems know that so voting for this amendment doesn’t really hurt them. I think the “no” votes were mainly for show because it just wouldn’t do to make it a unanimous vote. Doesn’t surprise that the newbie (hence less valuable) were among those along with those who have little to fear from the reelection process.

  • redtillimdead

They already have a release out http://ow.ly/pmO1
NYers, if we don’t get Pataki or Giuliani, who can we run against her? Anyone know of some talented state legislators?

  • DONTREADONME

I think this still can be applied, because you can not change your name and all of sudden be exempt from past associations; therefore I submit the clause in question…

“None of the funds made available under this Act may be directly or indirectly distributed to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN)”.

The indirectly is what I think is applicable, I can consider any group that is remotely affiliated with ACORN can be restricted; however, I agree with the possibility that this is why it passed so easy and the NOTACORN lawyers will argue this has nothing to do with their organization.

that even when the point is moot, as Spending originates in the House and Billions have been authorized, they couldn’t even bring themselves to vote for something that basically has ZERO effect. Unless the Legislation calls for immediate halt to any further disbursement of funds already EARMARKED (yes, proper term no matter how they pretend it got in the Bills) and goes to the House for passage and onto the Radical-In-Chief they’ll be getting those Billions disbursed from/through the endless Liberal Govt. Bureaucracies.

I believe Johanns had TWO amendments (note amendment numbers)

Text of amendment says ACORN . . . not ACORN Housing

SA 2355. Mr. JOHANNS submitted an amendment intended to be proposed by him to the bill H.R. 3288, making appropriations for the Departments of Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, and related agencies for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2010, and for other purposes; which was ordered to lie on the table; as follows:

After section 414, insert the following:

Sec. 4__. None of the funds made available under this Act may be directly or indirectly distributed to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN).

This Johanns amendment is also interesting . . . .

SA 2356.

Sec. 4__. None of the funds made available under this Act shall be distributed to–

    (1) an organization which has a pending indictment for or has been convicted of a violation under Federal or State law relating to fraudulent voting in any Federal or State election; or

    (2) an organization which employs an individual who has a pending indictment for or has been convicted of a violation under Federal or State law relating to fraudulent voting in any Federal or State election.

a>There is hostility towards politicians in general. Moreover there is political correctness involved. Organizers don’t want their protest to appear like they are represented by Republican Politicians. Like a desire to prove to the “mainstream” media that this is not a partisan republican movement. Surprising since a lot of people I met are republicans/independents. There is definitely republican/conservative majority in the protests. Pendulum is swinging towards conservatives. We can call this a march of conservatives. At least that’s the feeling I am getting. That will ultimately work in our favor if we can get conservative candidates up for elections.

b>Nobody believes any of the ideas championed by the President make sense. Stimulus, Healthcare, big budget….

c>People are desperately looking for credible candidates they can vote for. There is a real desire for change.

There have been lot of posts here about getting involved locally. That is going to be the key. If we can promote the right people from the ranks we have a movement building.

    McCain and Hutchinson “didn’t vote?”

Were they not there or did they just vote present?

The seven that voted against atleast held true to who they are…

If Hutchinson was there and didn’t vote.. she just handed Perry a bullet to fire.

Can anyone confirm if they were there or not?

  • The_Gadfly

by whether or not they audit ACORN for timekeeping. If any of the departments, including Census does an audit of their timekeeping records, ACORN is really and truly done. That was one of the few things that sent chills down management spines at my last job. If they find mismanagement in timekeeping, they can shutdown funding you’ve already been allocated. And once you lose it for one government contract, that’s also a signal to the other contracting agencies to get out of Dodge.

But I think they are serious about taking ACORN down a notch. Baltimore was bad. Being followed up by DC was badder. But DC being followed up by NYC was baddest of all. Even crooked politicians want their grafters/graftees to be smart. ACORN’s been stupid about this. Especially with Beck announcing that tomorrow’s tapes are going to be even worse than today’s. O’Keefe and Giles have set them up worse than anything Morley Safer and Dan Rather did to anybody they ever ambushed. At this point, I’m starting to think O’Keefe and Giles have enough tape in the can to keep this going for at least two weeks straight. And they did it because they knew ACORN would try to lie their way out of it. And each time ACORN lies, they release a new tape. Since it happens in real time the blatant falsehoods are easily seen.

you vote as often as Acorn wants Wherever they want you to vote and their is no overhead (booze, cigarrets or cab fare) in tallying your votes.

There is that pesky requirement for computers as many “field workers” at ACORN are not well enough trained to know that 4(distcricts)*2(votes each) =1789 (total) votes.

    because of this.

If you want to know why see-sawing John McCain has had to be goaded, prodded, begged, and dragged into spotlighting Barack Obama?s radical ACORN roots, here?s your answer:

Turns out John McCain had no problem calling ACORN members his friends during his ill-fated illegal alien shamnesty crusade.

The rally in Miami is being sponsored by the New American Opportunity campaign (NAOC) in partnership with ACORN, Catholic Legal Services ? Archdiocese of Miami, Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center, Florida Immigrant Coalition, Miami Dade College, People for the American Way/Mi Familia Vota en Acci?n, Service Employees International Union, and UNITE HERE.

That was from an article Michelle posted in October 2008, and the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Rally in Miami was in 2006.

is that despite the non-coverage by the MSM, the Senate is STARTING to listen to the voice of the people. That means:
    1. The irrelevancy of the MSM is being tacitly acknowledged,
    2. The sea change in the citizenry’s participation in politics is starting to be acknowledged,
    3. The likelihood that our representatives are beginning to see their political peril is increasing, and they will therefore have an ever increasing tendency to actually listen (granted-they have a long way to go…. but it’s all moving in the right direction), and
    4. Jefferson is being proved right once again….. We have freedom when the government fears the people.
