DNC preparing to cut Creigh Deeds loose?

(Via The Campaign Spot) Not that they would ever, ever come out and say so – but when the one truly hopeful poll that one’s had in months for a particular campaign reverses itself the next time it’s taken again, well.  Let’s just say that a handy excuse would be… handy.

The bad poll news comes on the heels of a story circulating in Democratic circles today that the Democratic National Committee is reportedly holding on to its $5 million financial commitment to the Deeds campaign out of concern that the Deeds campaign has focused too much of its attention on the controversial Bob McDonnell 1989 grad-school thesis setting out a hardline social-conservative political agenda for his budding political career and not enough on putting down a framework for what a Deeds administration would do for Virginia.

That’s so clever it’s almost diabolical. Remember: Deeds is the guy that the national party had the least preexisting ties with, so there’s less people to offend here.  And telling him to come up with a new campaign narrative may sound reasonable – until you remember that we’re down to one month before the election. Also, five million dollars is suddenly looking like a lot more money, in this era of anemic Democratic fundraising; obviously, spending it on an election is what it’s there for… but throwing it away on an election is usually not considered smart.

Again, there’s no possible way that the DNC will ever admit that they’re going to cut Deeds loose.  They’ll in fact angrily deny it.  But ask yourself: in their shoes, would you be throwing good money after Creigh?

PS: Bob McDonnell for Governor. It’s the only way to be sure.

positive campaign spot not ONE….every one of his commercials is a NEGATIVE and people are not buying that crap anymore. I have seen NOTHING from the D’s down here in VA that says I will or I can they all say look at that bad R….they have Rove and Bush and Cheney in them and it made me realize that it absolutely was true that there was NOTHING the D’s offered in 2008 except they were not R’s and they won, pretty pathetic on American’s part but thankfully not a winning strategy in 2009. I suspect in 2010 Americans will be SO ANGRY at all the spending in DC that the R’s could run as not a D but hopefully they run with a message of fiscal constraint and SMALL GOVERNMENT!

add on tv, and hearing it on the radio, but no spots about what he actually supports. It’s heavy on all the things the kool-aid drinkers love, but I think it will turn off most Virginians.

And while I haven’t seen McDonnell’s response to the Deeds ad as often as I would like, it hits the right notes. If it gets a bit more air time and is paired with ads about his transportation plan, we should be able to stick a fork in Deeds.

Anywhere other than deep blue areas they’ll be petrified of being tied to Obama, and people will really be sick of pointing fingers at Bush.

Did you see this picture with Deeds looking like he was just given the plague when Obama touched him.

As the article points out, it is critical that Deeds win in VA so that the Democrats can change VA from a right to work state, to a union run machine. McDonnell is running on a platform of jobs for all Virginians.

Interesting that the DNC would consider cutting off Deeds funds when the current Governor (Tim Kaine) is the head of the DNC. Also interesting is that the VA Dems choose Deeds over McAuliffe and Moran, which were supposed to be more of a liability than Deeds. For the first time I will give Kaine some credit, even he knows the dangers of throwing good money after bad. At this point the only ones who can save Deeds are ACORN and the SEIU, and I don’t see that happening.

It’s not like it would matter if any filing deadline has passed or Kaine is term-limited or anything. That kind of stuff can always be fixed if you’re a Democrat.

    That’s hilarious.
