Everybody stop breathing.

It’s good for the environment.  Well, until all the plants suffocate*. Mark Hertsgaard, in the Nation:

The IPCC says that rich industrial countries must cut emissions 25 to 40 percent by 2020 (from 1990 levels) if the world is to have a fair chance of avoiding catastrophic climate change. By contrast, the WBGU study says the United States must cut emissions 100 percent by 2020–i.e., quit carbon entirely within ten years. Germany, Italy and other industrial nations must do the same by 2025 to 2030. China only has until 2035, and the world as a whole must be carbon-free by 2050.

I don’t object to a man having a religion.  I don’t even mind when his religion impacts his policy opinions.  But this desire of the Left to mix their religion with their science is a definite problem.

Via The Corner and AoSHQ.

*If this is what Hertsgaard was referring to – then no, the WBGU study didn’t say that.  It doesn’t advocate quitting carbon emissions entirely.  Because that would be stupid.  As opposed to the stupidity of thinking that the world has to, and is going to, immediately reduce its carbon emissions by 40% and stay there, but that’s another post.

Since carbon is the basis for all life on earth, won’t this be kind of hard to accomplish?

Perhaps its time to realize a state religion has unconstitutionally been established.

It is a fact the Left is trying to cram their programs down our throats. Quite simply we return the favor and cram something down their throats, stop their breathing and save the world. This should result in at least a 40% reduction in the U.S. carbon footprint. That’s the upside, the downside would be the pharmaceutical companies would take a hit from our no longer needing to take our blood pressure meds.

    Plant + Sun + CO2 = O2 + Life
    Animal + Food + O2 = CO2 + Life

And as the Base Food for all food chains are plants, it seems to me that maybe these new religious Lefties need to go back to their Seminary Schools.

If we could get all the lefties who demand we live a lesser life in order to save a fish or some other critter, then I suggest they lead by example.

I wonder how many eco-nuts there are out there, driving cars, flying in planes and eating cooked food provided by agri-corporations. We could gather all them up and put them somewhere without electricity, running water, washing machines, etc. and every once in a while throw them a couple of hundred pounds of tofu so they wouldn’t starve to death.

    Just saying…

than others. You heard the paranoid crap for eight years while Bush was in office. Now the secular fanaticism of the self hating left, anti-human in all it’s aspects, comes to haunt us.
Except this particular religion doesn’t offer life in the hereafter, it doesn’t offer life at all, it rejects it.
I don’t see why they don’t off themselves and leave the normal people alone, but I guess we have to be tormented first.

to commit suicide and thereby save the planet if they really believed the stuff they’re spouting. The fact that they haven’t taken me up on it tells me they don’t believe the junk they’re saying any more than the rest of us who question their theories and get slammed for the trouble.

It’s not about ‘green’ or saving the planet but power, control, and money, not to mention the destruction caused by environmentalists.

In an Emerging Trends Report a couple months back. The whole paper was how global warming was a scam, but what I found interesting was a table in that report:

CO2 from Natural Sources = 770,000 Metric tonnes emitted annually
    ^ 97.1% of total
CO2 from Human Sources = 23,100 metric tonnes emitted annually
    ^ 2.9% of total

Amount absorbed by nature = 781,400 metric tonnes
    ^ 98.5%

This is data from IPCC itself! More than half of what is produced by humans is re-absorbed!!

Here is the link to the full article for those interested. Long read but worth it!

Hollywood will never make a movie out of this story:

Fallen Angels (1991) is a Prometheus Award-winning novel by science fiction authors Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle, and Michael Flynn

Set in an unspecified ‘near-future’ (one of the main characters has childhood memories of the Exxon Valdez disaster) in which a radical environmentalist movement, joined with a coalition of religious groups, has gained control of the US government and imposed draconian luddite laws which, in attempts to curb global warming, have ironically brought about the greatest environmental catastrophe in recorded history – an ice age which may eventually escalate into a Snowball Earth.

I remember during my studies that the Constitution had a statement concerning separation of church and state, could somebody mention this to the brain-dead in our government.

The science for such a foolish suggestion does not exist. The possibility of this suggestion only proves how little the people IPCC understand the situation or the science.

The IPCC ideas are about possible as a caveman conducting flight operations from a nuclear powered aircraft carrier in 1000 BC.

I only want to tweak the order.

Thses countries must quit first, and then I agree, the US should follow suit say 50 years later.

Germany, Italy and other industrial nations must do the same by 2025 to 2030. China only has until 2035

What a complete load of crap!

I understand the compulsion for others to make the “science becomes a religion” remarks. The fact of the matter is that the science is so flimsily poor that it could ONLY pass for a cult religion.

Quality science produced by real scientists (hopefully coming soon) will actually quantify the problem, and put it to rest. It won’t de-program the converted, but at least they’ll be forced to move to Guiyana.

effort from the age old days of “anything to undermine the west using gullible idiots” in this case the greens/eco-nazis in a manner similar to Alinsky being a seed for a generation of professors and other radicals trying to destroy America from within. Ironic that it would morph from a group trying to prevent US independence from foreign oil (NO NEW NUKE PLANTS) to “everyone must go back to the stone age” starting with the big bad evil US and the rest of the West first and could, if successful be the most damaging to thing to all scientific progress and ultimately hurt everyone on the planet and not just it’s intended target of Western Civilization…

Summary: A group of radical environmentalists fund terrorists to put a certain company in charge of the security at the Summer Olympics. They also create a biological plague that wipe out humanity, and give out a ‘vaccine’ that exacerbates the disease. They are stopped by a Western multi-national special forces unit.

Seen the weather lately? I’m freezing in the northeast, ten degrees below normal, a baseball game in Colorado snowed out. Record breaking cold temps in the mid-west. We’re all doomed!
Obviously the CO2 is blocking the sun’s warming rays. It is only by reducing our output of CO2 do we stand a chance of bringing the earth’s temps back up to normal.
