How Not To Do It: the infamous Dede Scozzafava photo op.

So, just how bad was this photo op that Dede Scozzafava had to try to push back on Doug Hoffman?

This bad. From our super-secret hidden peanut gallery (names left in because they said to):

streiff: I was an evaluator on a live fire exercise back in 84 when a herd of free range cattle moped into the impact area and about 200 troops decided they were much more fun to shoot at than 55-gal drums filled with dirt. I wish I had pictures of the outcome of that because that is what her photo op is like

Neil Stevens: Streiff: You aren’t comparing Dede with a cow are you? Because that wouldn’t be right. :-)

streiff: actually, I was thinking of one particular cow that had a rear leg chopped off by an M-60 machinegun

…no, that image wasn’t pretty: then again, neither was this.

I don’t know anybody around here who thinks she should be running. I am going to pass this one around.

  • redtillimdead

it sounded like she was about to drop out and endorse Hoffman

  • penguin2

And you guys, it really isn’t fair to leave us with a color attached to to the critter you mentioned Streiff.

Maybe she will drop out, things don’t seem to be going very well for her. Just the wrong candidate for us.

  • E Pluribus Unum

Stick a 5-second audio on the end: “I’m Doug Hoffman and I approved this message”.

  • AceInTX

    priceless…

and it’s basically back-scratching at work here. Dede has been a “republican” in office for a while, and the jokers who voted for her are basically under the impression that everyone else is too stupid to vote for someone who isn’t already in office.

is doing a real good job of compiling the news about Scozzafava’s debacle. He’s been interviewing locals and reporting.

I spoke with a county GOP chairman from NY-23 a day or two ago and when I told him I hoped Scozzafava would drop out and throw here support to Hoffman he said it would never happen in a million years and that it might not help much because her name will remain on the ballot.

    FWIW.

    Thank you.

because she couldn’t find any pro-DeDe Scozzafava signs. BTW, I don’t mind Italian politicians in the US House of Representatives, so long as their name aren’t so hard to spell and pronounce.

  • SteveLA
  • clement

That says “Hoffman = Pelosi”. Pretty sad showing though.

  • Illinicon

I mean how much longer is the NRCC going to let Scozfava embrass herself before they realize that she is doing more damage to their credability than even herself?

  • Richard Mullins

but there should have be a DeDe Scozzafava sign instead of that. If ever there was a chance for free advertisement, then this was one of those chances and Doug Hoffman got a great deal of it.

  • roscopico

    I was hoping she would.

    Absolutely Clueless.

Newt, this is your candidate? Take a hike.

  • http://slcliberty.blogivists.com randy streu

we need to keep hitting over and over again the idea that it is Scozzafava, and not Hoffman, who is the spoiler in the race. Fortunately for us, it just keeps getting easier to do so.

  • hones

why must you slander cows with that unjust comparison?

At least cows are good for milk and manure, oh wait….

From what I have read here, if this chick wasn’t in the race Hoffman would win in a walk, but because she is in this thing, the Dem might win. I do agree with about everyone here, that this one should be the hill to die on, one it may be nice to have another R to add one more R to the congress count, but if she is unreliable I would rather have the D win and hang every screw up around his neck in 2010.

  • grinlap

If you can’t make your case with a good reasoned political argument then you’re just a democrat.

  • The_Gadfly

I mean I know most press conferences are boring, but please, I’d rather be reading Vogon poetry.

  • gator_hoo

to campaign outside of your opponent’s campaign HQ.

    That alone should disqualify her

  • Richard Mullins

that makes more sense. I would prefer a easier name like Novaresse or Piano, but I get Scozzafava instead.

  • marshmom

and this(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FETumfkPqwQ&feature=player_embedded#) is Newt’s excuse as to why he endorses her. Any real conservatives left out there? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

  • http://xmmlbchat.blogspot.com katesmith

Gingrich is different-he will do anything to get his face in the media and contribute to the death of the republican party. Many paint his actions as ideological which diverts attention from bigger problems. It would be nice if it were just about ideology but it’s about first getting someone who won’t rob us and laugh in our face. With media at his disposal 24/7 for years, he could have stopped the ascendancy of Goldman Sachs, Soros, the sub prime meltdown, cap and trade and much more. Anyone with his connections knew all this was going on. But he writes a book on global warming and is determined to keep the republican party out of the hands of the people. He is a buffoon. I wish Rush would come out against him. I gave $50 to Hoffman.

  • RedInABleuState

I don’t think this press conference could have been more horribly bungled.

WaPo reports that Dede is fading fast and has almost no money, while Hoffman actually has a chance to win.

If there is a runoff it sure sounds like it would be between Owens and Hoffman, but if it’s a one-shot deal then it’s much tougher for Hoffman to win unless more R voters see Dede as the spoiler and vote for Hoffman instead. I’m guessing this is a one-shot deal, so someone could with with 34% of the vote if the other two are split evenly.

  • bk

At least that’s the clear impression you get if you read the comments at the WaPo link above. As usual, the lefties are arguing purely on substance and issues, just as in New Jersey where their motto is “Choose Corzine ’cause Christie’s chubby”.

  • ocleverone

If a candidate holds a press conference outside of their opponent’s HQ, they had be darn sure that they have 50 times the volunteers to hold signs and support.

This was just hubris on her part.

  • danasdaddy

    Mutilated cattle and Vogon poetry…lol

  • djemi

Is Somebody About to Make Doug Hoffman’s Day?

Don’t take this to the bank, at least not yet. But somebody who seems to be in a position to know what’s coming down the pike in New York’s special election tells me that he’s hearing Sarah Palin will publicly endorse Conservative Doug Hoffman over Republican Dede Scozzafava.

which goes a long way to explain why I grew up in a democrat house.

I truly believe that, in the “Big ‘D’ Machine” cities, going back to forever, the R’s really are just window dressing, a social club allowed to exist for the convenience of propping up the electoral process in a two party system. Sort of like the state of New Jersey.

It’s so bad in Philly that I was asked, personally, by a Philly GOP organization employee at a Christmas party if I would ever want to run for a state office as a republican. Not be elected, mind you, just “run.” My qualification? I was the only republican she had ever met outside of work. Her bosses told her to be on the lookout for any self identifying republicans who walked upright and had no criminal record.
