See Dodd spin. Spin, Dodd! Spin!

Senator Chris Dodd (D, Irish Mansion CT) is having a time of it with this sweetheart Countrywide loans thing.  First off, the Senate Ethics investigation somehow managed to avoid going after him for his activities, which meant that Dodd thought that he could start repairing the damage to his fundraising reputation (H/T: Instapundit):

U.S. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd is saying it’s time to move on from the long-running Countrywide Financial VIP loan scandal.

[snip]

“I feel the matter’s behind us,” Dodd said. “We ought to move on.”

And then House Democrats messed up (on camera, no less):

Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee have been pressing for an investigation of Countrywide Mortgage’s “VIP Program,” under which powerful Democrats like Kent Conrad and Chris Dodd received sweetheart mortgages, apparently as bribes. On Thursday of last week, as the committee was about to meet, the Republicans said that they wanted a vote on whether to subpoena Countrywide’s records on the VIP program. The Democrats were between a rock and a hard place: the last thing they want to do is investigate their own party’s corruption, but at the same time, they don’t want to be seen voting to cover up the Countrywide scandal.

So what did the Democrats do? To a man (or woman), they hid.

Locking the doors on the Republicans – no, really! – didn’t help, either. So now there’s going to be a probe by the House:

U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy tells me that the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will launch a wide-ranging probe into the lending practices of the mortgage loan industry.

And Dodd’s response?

Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) said Friday that it was the “correct move” for House lawmakers to investigate Countrywide, the beleaguered mortgage lender from which he received several loans.

But at least the President still likes him.

until next November, then. I have no confidence in this Congress to do a decent job of investigating anything because it is so partisan that the slightest whiff of a scandal railroads a Republican out of town but people like tax cheat Charlie Rangel is lauded for his work on the Ways and Means Committee.

I do like the fact that it’s hurting him in the fundraising department, :-)

are like investigations between other members of criminal outfits, they only show honor between thieves. If they keep it going say until after November 2010, I’d be really happy.

dodd, schummmmmmmmer, frank, reid, pelosi, obama, deadfish rahm and the rest of the politicans that contributed to the down fall of the ACORN housing-banking scandal. They will start talking and the politicans will run for cover but Madhoff has a place waiting for them.

Slowly, very slowly, like two unhurried compass needles, the feet turned towards the right; north, north-east, east, south-east, south, south-south-west; then paused, and, after a few seconds, turned as unhurriedly back towards the left. South-south-west, south, south-east, east.

The fundamental commencement of our most recent recession grew its roots in Mr.Dodd’s mortgage market shenanigans. His relationship with Countrywide is just one “leg” of the entire mess.

Dodd’s seeming “quid pro quo” typifies Democrats’ destructive role in causing this entire financial crisis. It is no small wonder why they believe closing their eyes long enough might make it go away.

    Not a chance

My biggest fear with the Dodd/Countrywide connection is that the Democrats would either force him out or another Democrat would knock him off in the primary because of his dismal electability chances. That scenario looked very likely several months ago.

Connecticut is a liberal state that normally elects Democrats, so the only real chance a Republican has to win this seat is usually if there is some serious corruption charges on the Democrat. If a random, milquetoast Democrat runs for that Senate seat, they’re almost a shoo-in to win. Against Dodd though, there’s a very good chance for a Republican pick up in a very blue state.

If I were in charge of Republican “strategery” I would keep my powder dry on all of this until the election draws nearer.

with the Tony Rezko investigation? Wasn’t he going to sing to the FBI to lessen his jail time? Every time I hear about lending and bank corruption, it brings to mind Acorn and Obama……

was a prime player in the financial meltdown. Why the Republicans won’t go after him, Barney Frank and the others that caused this mess is beyond belief. The evidence is very clear. There needs to be a concerted conservative voice to reveal the facts that the MSM have deliberately hidden from the American people from the real causes of this country’s financial woes.
