Virginia Results Open Thread.

Results here.

UPDATE [LHW]: ABC calls it for McDonnell. Others sure to follow. At this point it’s about how bad it will be for Deeds and the other Dems.

UPDATE [ML]: Not Larry Sabato is morbidly counting the VA House races. If the Democrats are lucky, they’ll be down six by the end of the night.

UPDATE [LHW]: Total bloodbath for the Dems. Cuccinelli and Bolling cruising to easy victories.  VA Dems hemhorraging state House seats as well. Major Garrett reporting that the Ds are prepared to lose Loudon and Prince William counties by large margins. It is clear, whatever else you believe, that this is not just about Creigh Deeds being a bad candidate.

Of course I have no clue how the county results weigh in against where they “should” be.

  • DONTTREADONME

well of course the polls closed 23 minutes ago.

  • Rod_Patrick

    Whatever!

2 to 1 ratio in favor of McD in 54 precincts is still a good opening salvo..

  • scarlos

It’s generally easier to estimate where they vote totals should be by Congressional District.

Right Now he’s leading in all but 2–the Very Liberal 8th, and the 11th which hasn’t posted any results yet.

He’s amazingly ahead in the majority-black 3rd, but that’s only by a handful of votes and he’s not likely to keep the lead for very long.

  • http://conservativestateproject.blogspot.com/ SE-779

I’ve already called it for the GOP.

Thanks to those who are posting results, we’re really interested and will keep checking in.

Campaining is over. Lets gets real. We are going to win.

    Anything under 10% is disappointing.

10% to 12% is what the pundits expect.

12% to 14% is swift kick in the *ss

If BD hits 15%, the floodgates are open. Its Revolution.

  • scarlos

Still has a slim lead in the 3rd and is trailing 35-64 in the 8th.

    Currently about 64-36

  • scarlos
  • swami7774

….at different rates for different statewide races? Example: right now the VA Sec of State site has 12% of the gubernatorial vote counted, but 11.8% of the AG vote counted.
    How does that happen?

  • Aaron Gardner
  • DONTTREADONME
  • scarlos

i.e. one ballot has a clear vote for Governor, but a crossed out or illegibile vote for AG.

that’s the only thing I can think of

  • Leopard1996

And he is just showing how much of a horse’s ass he is. He is interviewing Cantor, and he is throwing barbs at how Virginia did not allow Palin to come into the state.

Why do our people give him the time of day.

  • DONTTREADONME

my guess is their are people in line waiting to get into the polls at the close.

  • regent2009

it is not referendum on Obama. Unless a Democrat is winning, in which case it is.

  • SteveLA

I agree Matthews is the south end of a north bound horse, but you have to give Cantor credit. Instead of a deer in a headlight look we have grown used to seeing from some R’s, Cantor responded with good grace and humor punching back.

Cantor should open a school or something and teach others from the Republican side to punch back, Liz Cheney can guest lecture, she’s great too on hammering back at Liberals with intelligence and grace.

  • udtiger

    for McDonnell

  • swami7774

    1 down, 2 to go.

  • Leopard1996

And probably why I will never go into politics I would have told him a few obscene things that he can do with members of his own family.

Probably will get a bit closer by the end of the day, as McDonnel’s best areas are the ones that have the most number of precincts in.

  • regent2009

Olbermann and Fineman are talking about how the election shows that Democrats shouldn’t run to the middle but should be more liberal. If that is the lesson they take, we will take the House back in 2010 instead of waiting until 2012.

  • barry915barry

This is so much better than sitting through that Tedisco fiasco earlier this year. Barry

  • Republican_Michigander

McDonnell up big in Prince William. He’s winning big in Loudoun and up in FAIRFAX, but few precincts reported. Up big in Chesterfield and Henrico.

48% in and a 180,000 vote lead. Even won Manassas.

This one’s gonna be good I think.

  • Rod_Patrick

Look at the 60% precint turnouts:

    McD 611,597

    Bolling 531,680

    Ken C 585,775

    KenC still has a chance.

  • Jack_Savage

    Ummm…..errrr….it’s NOT a referendum on Obama though….

FOX news has declared a Republican 3 race sweep for Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General in VA.

  • regent2009

that this is the first of a string of happy election nights. It was very dark in 2008, but it is always darkest right before dawn!

  • Herodotus

McDonnell is up in Danville City and Radford City both of which Kaine won in 2005

  • Scope

but us in his district do. Don’t speak from something you have no knowledge of. I liver in his district, and I promise you, more than a few are very unhappy about Cantor. Even heard some complaints against him at the McDonnell rally yesterday. Don’t speak about what you don’t know. He never had the first Townhall this August, there is a reason for that. He is a pumpted up Republican who has gone over to the McCain side.

  • DONTTREADONME

let me check, in the early numbers it appeared to be going as expected. Thanks for the info.

  • scarlos

My bet is that it ends roughly 58-42, as the Democratic areas are still lagging in the vote count

  • Jack_Savage

    Perriello’s district goes R, I will be very happy…

  • AceInTX

I know it’s too much to ask…but it would be sooooo sweet!

  • DONTTREADONME

this could be the Dems chance to bring the lawyers in to swing the win. Right now the difference is is under 150 vote for 51 and 26 votes in 52

  • antisocial

    AMEN!

  • Jack_Savage

Obviously broken but fun to look at though…

  • scarlos

But you’re right, its fun to look at

would have had an impact if you added percentages of vote, or at the very lease the Democrats vote totals. Get with it brother.

It is what Swamp up thread and then some was hoping for.
60.5-39.4 with 72% in!! Closing in on a 300,000 vote lead.

  • abbynormal

A clean sweep all the way!

Hope the turn-out is record breaking.

  • DONTTREADONME

promising for the R’s with the current numbers of +5 votes for Anderson (R) and Torian (D) ahead by 95 votes in VA-52. Given the number of votes so far I am concerned that the D’s shenanigans in 51 and 52 could win the day.

Note: as a resident of PWC I saw a number of commericals about Nichols and a negative ad against Anderson by the Nichols campaign; I saw absolutely no commericals by Anderson, but Anderson did come to my door and really liked the flag I fly. Pleasant gentleman with leadership managing our nuclear arsenal. Unfortunately, the D’s poured the money in for Nichols and Torian; however, if the R’s do win, they did so with little fanfare on cable and broadcast.

  • red_refugee

I hope NJ and NY-23 fare as well.

  • Leopard1996

I will keep an eye on that through out from here on out. Right now it appears he is saying and doing the right things.

  • DONTTREADONME

VA-51 is a nail biter, Anderson is now ahead with 75% of precincts reporting, unfortunately, the margin in VA-52 looks insurmountable therefore, I will call VA-52 for Torian.

  • Herodotus

    …of Virginia voters.

I don’t think they could have assembled a bigger group of idiots.

  • Achance

a group of representative voters will do it every time.

  • Leopard1996

Yeah, sometimes you have to have a strong faith in God because people tend to suck.

  • DONTTREADONME

tonight with electing a republican governor, lt governor and attorney general, but decided the Democrats were the best to send Richmond. I will be calling the races for VA-51 and VA-52 for Democrats Nichols and Torian. Darn-it. BTW, there will be a recount in VA-51, but Anderson I do not think has the finances to fight it. Again this is my opinion.

  • SteveLA

My comment went to how well he responded to Chris Mathews with grace and humor, not how he stands on any of the issues. He’s not my Congresscritter and I really haven’t taken the time to study him or his stances on issues I care about. If you say that there are people in his district that have issues with him on the issues and you live there, that’s fine I’ve got no dog in that fight.

  • DONTTREADONME

who did not vote in the election this year? Who in PWC failed to get their butts to the polling place?

  • DONTTREADONME

200 vote margin. Oh, happy day, The democrats dumped a whole heck of funds in VA-51 to defeat a man that went door to door stumping. Congratulations, Rich don’t let them steal it.

  • http://fairfaxgardener.blogspot.com ddstrain

Hollin Hall precinct is heavy Dem. just over 1000 votes cast. McDonnell lost by only 27 votes. This is AMAZING for a district with a colony of hard core socialists and communists.

  • mmmc

I have been fighting the flu all day (be warned, you actually cough your lungs out of your body) or I would have commented more. It is great to see a Republican sweep, but my real hero in this is Cuccinnelli. He is the true conservative bell weather. I have heard he is hoping to go after federal”low-hanging fruit” like czar created regs on the state (as unconstitutional), Congressional mandates (as unConstitutional), etc. I can only hope like crazy, but I am happy tonight.

And Rod, we do have alot of Virginians on this site. We have a historical duty to do our part as our forefathers did ;o)

  • Swamp_Yankee

    Perfect.

I know he had the wind at his back. I know NY-23 is more sexy, Bu B.M. is probably more important. He pulled the conservative pieces together and ran a campaign that united all wings of the GOP and even influenced NoVa. He had hard core “socon” history too. But he won them all. That campaign needs a diary.

  • JadedByPolitics

He as the AG of Virginia will NOT be putting up with their OVER REACH!! He said they will NOT be forcing Card Check on VA!!! This man is going to be one of the NEW leaders of the GOP…WATCH HIM!!!!!

  • nivlem

That is great news. Cucinnelli is indeed a plus.

I have had the flu….it’s no fun. Not what you think of as the flu, and it hurts.
Sleep – lots. Take vitamin D, and if it goes beyond your nasal passages and
into your chest – go to the Doctor and get some antibiotics and Tamaflu. Mine never went into my chest. Just cough from nasal drainage.

Take care of yourself, and God Bless You.

  • JustLeaveMeAlone

    and Amen.

Still, it’s good my birth state came to its senses, if only for today.

  • JustLeaveMeAlone

and one I much prefer to Cantor, about whom I harbor serious doubts.

  • Jack_Savage

…was for the AG post. McDonnell won by….

    323 votes.

Multiply that by 100,000 and you have the margin of victory tonight.

    Gee – what’s different?

  • Jack_Savage

    It just FEELS like 100,000

  • JadedByPolitics

  • OccamsRazor

Then back to work tomorrow onward to ’10 and ’12.

  • Achance

on the Democrat front groups and stop feeding the hands that bite us.

  • OccamsRazor

But “serious” doubts for Cantor? Not _yet_ IMO.

Let’s agree to keep an eye on both shall we? Or everybody for that matter.

  • OccamsRazor

Didn’t read this in time and didn’t intend to pile on.

  • OccamsRazor

    What doubts?

  • Scope

    Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I told Cuccinelli at a rally on Monday that we at Redstate think he is a rock star!!! This man is going places, but, not yet, we in Virginia need him to clean up the Democrats mess first. Then we will share him with the nation.

  • JustLeaveMeAlone

Here’s but one example in Eric Cantor’s own words:

“The Republican Party in its root is a party of inclusion and we ought to be promoting that and making sure that voices are heard.”

Ditto his defense of Olympia Snowe.

Others can likely speak to this better than I. Although I own property in his district (Glen Allen, VA) and lived there for years, I now, thankfully, live in TX-7 (John Culberson). I think Scope may live in Cantor’s district — I believe she has expressed some of this same frustration.

While Cantor has proven an effective whip (exception: Cao), he appears to be coming down with a terminal case of Potomac Fever. He’s hardly alone in that, but I’m just plain sick of Republicans who give lip service to conservative values until they get admitted to the Congressional Club.

Rampant elitism is irritating, whether from the Left or Right.
