Watch with some amusement as Missouri Secretary of State (and Senate hopeful) Robin Carnahan (D) refuses to answer two simple questions:
- Does she support the House’s health care rationing bill?
and
- What is her opinion on the Stupak amendment?
(See also: The Conservatives.com)
While Carnahan’s response to the first question might be at least considered a standard attempt at mealy-mouthing, and thus not overly outrageous; I cannot imagine how any progressive watching that could be pleased at her ‘answer’ to the second question. Every credible side in the health care dispute concedes that the Stupak amendment is relevant to the discussion, and people are keeping track of who has what opinion of it. Robin Carnahan’s going to have to choose a side.

PS: What exactly did the Carnahan family do in Missouri to justify their quasi-hereditary political status in that state? Save St. Louis from a rampaging Mississippi River monster?

Is it just me, or does anyone else see the spittin' image of Bill Clinton in Robin Carnahan? nt

Just being "not Ashcroft"

The senior Carnahan was John Ashcroft’s opponent in the Senate campaign of (I believe) 2000. Carnahan was in an airplane that landed awkwardly and not quite intact, with the late Mr. Carnahan a much worthier candidate than the living, breathing version had been — an instant giant to be greatly mourned, missed, and for purposes of the campaign slate, replaced by his distraught widow. The highly-played sympathy appeal carried the election and a dynasty was hatched.
It’s highly doubtful that Carnahan-the-original could have defeated Ashcroft. But sometimes the winning slate is the one that runs a dead guy.
I would agree with your thesis
rblack198 (Diary) Wednesday, November 11th at 4:46PM EST (link)Though you worded it much more delicately than I was thinking. Its pretty tough for the living candidate’s campaign to respond to an attack from the dead guys campaign. If I recall Ashcroft suspended his campaign as good taste and basic decency would dictate, but the Carnahan (Mel’s) staff never really stopped.
As an aside one less judge holding polls open in St. Louis way past closing time and I think the result is different.
Why is it that the dead are so important in so many elections?

Instead, we get verbal diarrhea in the form of utterly useless run-on sentences.

My head hurts! from her cranial diarrhea spew.
As a life long Missouri resident, let me offer my sincerest apologies to all who braved that ridiculous run-on rant. I have no idea why the Carnahans have the status they enjoy in this traditionally blue dog state. Other than they’re blue.
But our neighbor to the West, Kansas, is not immune from these ridiculous run-on clowns. Listen to Dennis Moore (D – KS 3) bablel, ramble and use wa-ay too many words to say absolutely nothing in regards to the same topic that R. Carnahan (didn’t) address.

And these clowns and jokers wonder why folks at town halls are mad.

The_Gadfly (Diary) Wednesday, November 11th at 9:51PM EST (link)I should have known it would be a literary reference. My reaction before following the link was that it was a cool variation of The Darwin Award, specifically for politicians.
Frankly, I still like that thought better.
