(Via AoSHQ) Shift of eight points since July, which for Gallup represents the GOP ‘edging ahead.’ The current numbers are GOP/Democrats 48/44. And 52/30 among independents. And this represents registered voters, not likely ones. Gallup tried to caveat this one every way that it could, but has to conclude:
Since Gallup regularly began using the generic ballot to measure registered voters’ preferences for the House of Representatives in 1950, it has been rare for Republicans to have an advantage over Democrats. This is likely because more Americans usually identify as Democrats than as Republicans, but Republicans can offset this typical Democratic advantage in preferences with greater turnout on Election Day. Most of the prior Republican registered-voter leads on the generic ballot in Gallup polling occurred in 1994 and 2002, two strong years for the GOP.
Particularly interesting is this amusing graph:
…and yes: the Democratic line does look uncannily like the trajectory of an airplane just after it has lost all power to the engines, mid-flight. A real shame that this didn’t come out last Friday, huh? There’s a bunch of Blue Dogs who probably would have appreciated the opportunity to factor this information into their long-term voting strategies.

11 months is a lifetime in politics...
AngryMatt Wednesday, November 11th at 9:46AM EST (link)..but if these numbers hold or somehow get even better for our side by late October 2010, the House should be ripe for the plucking and we’ll pickup at least a small handful of seats in the Senate (such as DE, CO, CT and IL) while defending all of our own, including the tough open races in NH and MO.

Proof that not everyone in the mainstream media is a bleeding heart.
The independents are running
Dan Perrin Wednesday, November 11th at 9:48AM EST (link)screaming from the Dems.
But they can’t help themselves because Obama is the chief lemming, driving them off the cliff.
(Have a nice trip.)
I wonder how the democratic information ministers will spin this one
ciscoguy Wednesday, November 11th at 9:53AM EST (link)Probably something like:
Obama’s personal approval numbers are still positive (according to Gallup, anyway), therefore, this poll is useless.
Congress always has a low approval rating. This poll is useless.
Congressional districts have local concerns. Whatever this is, it is definitely not a referendum on Democrats on a national level.
Americans are too stupid to realize the brilliance and wisdom of their “ambitious” agenda. “Never has an American president tried to tackle so many important issues at once.” Once their policies are enacted and people start to see the benefit of the Democrat programs, those numbers will come back - maybe for good.
They'll Ignore Them - Just Like Gallup Tried To Do
IJB Wednesday, November 11th at 10:20AM EST (link)Lefties and Dems are very bad at processing contrary and contradictory information.
The Dems losing the House doesn’t jibe with what they want to believe right now, so they’ll just ignore these numbers. (Dollars-to-donuts that there’s no diary on sites like Kos discussing this - in fact, I bet even the *commenters* will ignore it.)
To them, it’ll be like this poll was never even taken. Trust me on this - I’ve seen these guys on the internet for over 15 years now!
As I Predicted, I See No Coverage of This Poll on Leftie Blogs
IJB Wednesday, November 11th at 11:44AM EST (link)Not even 538 can be bothered to talk about this.
Heh.
lol I also noticed how Gallup tried to play down
treeofliberty Wednesday, November 11th at 9:55AM EST (link)the numbers every which they could. But actually it’s pretty devastating for the Democrats considering this was only REGISTERED and not likely voters.
Even in 08 which was a good turnout year for the Dems gallup had Obama beating McCain among registered voters by about 10 points when the actual results were much closer. Now consider that congressional race will be even more favorable to a higher GOP turnout and I would not want to be a Democratic incumbent heading into November.
Furthermore I don’t even think this really covers it as it doesn’t take into account the intensity of voter preference (ie who is going to volunteer, knock on doors, donate money etc for their candidates?) The Republican/Conservative base is FIRED up like I haven’t seen since 2000 Presidential elections, maybe 94 and I can’t see the Democratic base coming out in droves especially with Barack H. Obama not being on the ticket.
November 2010 could not come sooner!
Candidate Recruitment

we still need top tier candidates in some races for congress:
McNerney CA Altmire PA Waltz MN Petterson MN Pomeroy ND
Dahlkemper PA Carney PA Hill IN Maffei NY Murphy NY Murphy PA

We have two good candidates for the Mcnerney spot

The Dems will hit the streets
illinoisconservative Wednesday, November 11th at 10:12AM EST (link)in numbers with their Organizing for America (OFA) brownshirts. But, they have no message.
Their one and only message in ‘08 was “change”. “Please vote for our guy and he will give you change. Trust us.”
So, what is their message in 2010? “We really screwed things up, but please just give us a few more years to really royally screw things up.”?
I hear OFA participation is lackluster, at best. They have no message. They can’t get fired up. So, I agree. We WILL be fired up! We have to get out to every person in our neighborhoods. We have to offer to drive every retired person to the polls to vote against them. We cannot let up.
Gallup is a survey firm, not an analysis firm
AngryMatt Wednesday, November 11th at 10:14AM EST (link)I don’t think Gallup was trying to “spin” their poll one way or the other. They’ve been pretty responsible when it comes to healthcare and Obama’s approval to be honest. They’re not anything like CBS or ABC/WaPo but they also don’t get into the analysis as much as Rasmussen or PPP.
Obviously if they did a LV poll the numbers would be more in our favor, but I think RVs are more appropriate for where we are in the cycle. The electorate in 2010 will be different than the one in 2008 and might even be different than what we saw last week. When we hit primary season in full force, then I think getting both RVs and LVs is the right approach and then full switch to LVs when you hit September.
Bottom line: These numbers are great. They need to stay this way. And more importantly, we need to press our representatives and senators to hold the line on health care. The longer these numbers remain poor for Dems, the greater chance of defectors but there also remains the strong possibility that many will walk the plank with their eyes open knowing they’re toast either way, but their votes for “reform” will get them nice lobbyist jobs after they get tossed out.
——-
Proof that not everyone in the mainstream media is a bleeding heart.
Tell you what AngryMatt
Neil Stevens Wednesday, November 11th at 10:22AM EST (link)Find us a poll where the Democrats are ahead sizably among independents, and they make similar caveats about the possibility of Republicans evening it back up before election day.
Want to run for conservatives? Give.
There Is No Crisis
How is that caveat a big deal?
AngryMatt Wednesday, November 11th at 11:15AM EST (link)As I said in my first post, 11 months is a lifetime in politics. After 2008, many observers were calling for the end of the GOP or at least death to conservatism as we knew it and an “Obama generation.” Now there’s bubbly talk of a “Republican revival” and all of the questions about 2010 are about how many seats the Dems will lose.
Who knows what black swans are out there that could flip this environment? That’s why it’s Gallup’s job to poll and to say “there’s plenty of time for this to change” when that’s definitely true and it’s OUR job to make sure what changes is that the numbers skew even more in our favor when next November rolls around.
——-
Proof that not everyone in the mainstream media is a bleeding heart.
So what's your point?
Neil Stevens Wednesday, November 11th at 11:35AM EST (link)Are you here to talk down Republicans?
What’s your goal here?
Want to run for conservatives? Give.
There Is No Crisis
What?
AngryMatt Wednesday, November 11th at 11:40AM EST (link)Wow yeah so because I don’t believe that Gallup (now that it is detached from CNN) is a bad polling firm and tends to provide unbiased analysis I’m “talking down Republicans.” Ugh. Sometimes man, sometimes.
My goal here is to point out that Gallup is right that 11 months is a long time from now in politics and there’s no guarantee these numbers stay where they are. So it’s incumbent upon us to ensure that we not only keep those poll results stable, but move them even further to the right and it’s incumbent upon our GOP congressmen to press ever harder against health care reform because it may get to the point where some Dems give up on trying to save their seats and vote for “reform” in order to get a cushy job after they get thrown out.
That’s pretty much it dude.

Proof that not everyone in the mainstream media is a bleeding heart.

ktsub Wednesday, November 11th at 10:51AM EST (link)If you are conservative and do not like how the Repubican Party is running, get involved. All conservatives should become precinct chairs (there are MANY vacancies in every county of this nation), attend meetings support conservative candidates in the primary.
Sniping at moderate or not-as-conservative candidates on the Republican ticket in 2010, will lead to a Democratic win. People are already looking for alternatives to big government Democrats, we know the problems of conservatives laying down before, that will not happen again, but we must get congressional leadership in that will listen…and that is the Republican Party. The D’s are going to push left wing down our throats. Not to be a GOP cheerleader, but the GOP is the conservative party, and we need R’s to stop this train wreck.
Conservatives get involved and shape the party how you want it in the primary, and defeat the tax-and-spend liberal Democrats a year from now.

That yes in some area’s of the country there will be a need for a more liberal Republican and I don’t mean a leftist but where there is a Conservative area WE should DEMAND and EXPECT that the GOP get behind that Republican who at the very least has shown a record of FISCAL Conservatism. I don’t think that is too much to ask from a party that will expect our feet on the ground our voices on the telephone and our money from our wallets and finally our votes at the ballot box.
This is not about RINO’s against Conservatives any more this is about RESPECT from the GOP for the hard work WE do. I don’t think with the slaughter that is occurring to our great nation to expect the GOP to have STRONG differences from the liberals/leftists that are now in control of this beautiful nation. I don’t think other then those 20% who call themselves liberals there is an appetite in this country for MORE spending nor MORE taxing and that is a WINNING argument no matter the region of the country (perhaps not in the victim group cities) but definitely in the rest of the country!
O’Reilly said it last night and Miller agreed that there is a restlessness in this country that is milling just below the surface of major ANGER at the spending and the ignorance elected officials are showing in the face of deficit and declining dollar. Americans are READY to STOP the left in its tracks if the GOP is READY to sell them a SMALL GOVERNMENT platform and obtw these awakened Americans will NOT be lied too so they better mean it!

I feel it in myself, the urge to grab a gun (even though I don’t actually own one) and run into the streets looking to see how many of my fellow patriots will follow me as we begin to take back our country by any means necessary. The tenuous bonds which stop me are:
1. The knowledge that God is in Heaven and all things are under his control.
2. Postings by fellow conservatives that reassure me we still have a chance to do this peacefully.
3. The outcomes of the French Revolutions. And yes the plurals are intentional.

ktsub- I am confused
Scope Wednesday, November 11th at 12:31PM EST (link)you seem to be using Republican, moderate, conservative, GOP all as being equal and interchangeable, that there is no difference between them.
“Sniping at moderate or not-as-conservative candidates on the Republican ticket in 2010, will lead to a Democratic win. People are already looking for alternatives to big government Democrats, we know the problems of conservatives laying down before, that will not happen again, but we must get congressional leadership in that will listen…and that is the Republican Party.”
You say people will be looking for alternatives to the big government Dems, and, the “conservatives” laid down on that before, and that it will not happen again. Then you say no one should snip at the moderates and not as conservatives, which undoubtedly were the ones that “layed down” before, rather than the conservatives. Also, getting congressional leadership in, that listens, does not automatically mean the entire Republican party, as we just saw with the NY 23rd election.
Nobody has a right to anything

Delusion Not A Good Strategy For GOP
dsrane Thursday, November 12th at 2:36PM EST (link)Make no mistake I am all for a strong GOP with adequate representation in national politics. It is the balance that we need, however, ignoring the overall big picture which is not good in favor of isolated statistics which are not conclusive leads to delusion which is not a good strategy. The GOP just lost 2 more seats in the house including one that had been in GOP hands for more than 100 years. A recent Wall Street Journal Poll shows that only 21% of Americans identify themselves as Republican. Down from nearly 30% a year ago. mschmitt Thursday, November 12th at 2:41PM EST (link)I am no Political Strategist But I'll Try
dsrane Thursday, November 12th at 3:00PM EST (link)1. Highlight the proud history of fiscal conservatism and contrast with the tax and spend history of the Dems
2. Put forward a spokesperson(s) for the party, selected by career Republicans and stop letting Fox News decide who the leaders of the party are.
3. Gulp - move closer to the center on social issues. It has to happen the demographic of the country has changed and continues to change and younger voters will appreciate lower taxes and less government but they cringe when their sexual preferences and reproductive freedoms are attacked. There has to be some middle ground here for the GOP
1 for 3
CodeRedinPA Thursday, November 12th at 3:16PM EST (link)1) Amen!
2) The problem here is that there isn’t one.
…..And suggesting “career Republicans” be the arbiter of who that should be is just a non-starter. ” Career Republicans” advanced Dede Scozzafava in NY23.
If any real candidates surface , selecting who should be the national leader is way too important a job to leave to “Career Republicans”
3) Advice we can do without. The demographics in the country haven’t changed….unless we’re all now surrounded by gay people who want to marry their abortionist life partners.
Last year’s election just makes it look like it did. Lots of young people got interested. 9/10ths of them did so because the “Hope/Change” buttons were Hippie/Dippie hella-cool looking. The other 1/10th thought it’d be neat to have a black President
Do Democrats focus that they’re easy on criminals and soft on terror? No! They still get elected. And that’s because Dems know how to always change the subject from that.
We can still have ideological standards and get elected. Bob McDonnell didn’t compromise. He just didn’t focus on those issues. He changed the subject and it worked
….despite all the demographers telling us that Virginia was somehow suffocating itself blue.
Well Who Is It Then?
dsrane Thursday, November 12th at 3:27PM EST (link)Regarding #2 I was perhaps too simplistic. Indeed some combination of media support and party support is required in national politics so no one group ends has all of the decision. You say “Career Republicans” advanced Dede Scozzafava in NY23″ …… Fox News heavily promoted the guy who lost who did not even live in the district.
Regarding #3 NY23 makes my point. If the GOP wants to win back the house, senate and white house they need to win in districts that have a mix of social conservatives and fiscal conservatives that don’t vote on social issues. Social and Fiscal conservative can be mutually exclusive. Many fiscal conservatives dont care about the social issues they vote on their pocket book and common sense alone and we cannot leave them behind
Why is it that you guys always talk about not leaving fiscal conservatives behind while actively working to leave SoCons behind...
Aaron Gardner Thursday, November 12th at 3:37PM EST (link)Seriously, what makes you think that a.) no socons are also fiscons and b.) that leaving socons behind would in some way equate to winning more fiscons?

Republicans need not change the stance on social issues to win with that. If anything it a difference between us and Democratst and establishes party identity.
We need not focus on social issues, but it doesn’t mean we need to turn into nihilists either.
As for Hoffman, Fox News wasn’t responsible for him. But they had to pay attention to him, and some commentators felt he was the better choice

It was wishful thinking then and it is wishful thinking now.

The lefty strategy to disrupt the tea party momentum going into 2010 is going to center on agitating the libertarians out of the mix; so, I just think we’d be wise not to do the moby’s dirty work for him.
Not saying CodeRed did anything wrong, just that we’re getting dangerously close to letting the moby dictate the terms of the conversation.
mschmitt, I see your point...
Aaron Gardner Thursday, November 12th at 4:43PM EST (link)But moby arguments are easily refuted and should be refuted on sight. Trolls on the other hand should be ignored for the most part, other than hitting the contact form for their prompt blamming.

a very rare instance of the "full moby"
Streiff Thursday, November 12th at 2:55PM EST (link)We have the appeal for credibility
followed by 100% Dem spin
(note no mention of winning two state houses)
followed by non-sequitur data
(note no mention that about 40% self identify as conservative)
and a nonsensical conclusion
eh?
Well done.

I was very impressed, too... nt

penguin2 Thursday, November 12th at 3:02PM EST (link)Can the moby be blammed? After all, only been here 1day 18hrs. wouldn’t miss us much.

Can The Statehouse Pass HealthCare?
dsrane Thursday, November 12th at 3:07PM EST (link)I do not ignore the victories in NJ and VA, but get real here. The new GOP governors cannot legislate national issues like members of the house. You are exhibiting the delusion that I speak of. You ignore the significance of losing 2 more seats in the house?
And by the way, the last time you registered to vote was their a choice for “conservative”? So based on your non-point 20% of conservatives vote Democratic?
I think that your credibility is at question here
Stand back, kids... nt
mschmitt Thursday, November 12th at 3:08PM EST (link)Forget moby, calling troll. Questioning Streiff's credibility!

Yeah, I love it when that happens, penguin.

Spin vs Facts
dsrane Thursday, November 12th at 3:17PM EST (link)Pointing out that 2 congressional seats were lost is not Dem spin it is fact. It really happened. It should be factored in and considered within the context of other GOP wins and recent polls that suggest a growing discomfort with the current economic situation and the direction of the country overall relative to the bail out and deficits
OK, fine...
mschmitt Thursday, November 12th at 3:25PM EST (link)… but just for fun:
1. Do you predict Republican losses or gains in 2010?
2. What percentage of the “current economic situation” does Obama bear responsibility for?
3. Does Israel have a right to exist?
Dadgummit, now I'll never know... :) nt
mschmitt Thursday, November 12th at 3:32PM EST (link)facts vs spin
Streiff Thursday, November 12th at 3:27PM EST (link)pointing out that two House seats were lost (even if they’d been won it wouldn’t have changed the HCR vote Saturday) while ignoring two state house losses (which control the upcoming Census 2010 reapportionment and one of which is in a democrat stronghold) has led me to factor in and consider the context of your value to the site and unfortunately it validates my growing discomfort with what you are saying and who you claim to be. In short your value resulted in a negative number overall relative to facts and spin.
“A man does what he can and endures what he must.”
alright there Joe Friday...just the facts ma'am?
DONTREADONME Thursday, November 12th at 3:28PM EST (link)Seriously, for one day around here, you sure are a loud mouth. You’re real loud mouth I question, since you have the inability to do your research and look down ballot in both of those states and for that matter other elections around the country. To lose two special elections, is short-sighted and illustrates your lack of reasoning skills. I can see you and I will not be getting into any arguments of substance. BTW, the statehouses should be dealing with any health insurance laws not the Federal, and if you think that 0bama wasn’t smacked by the vote in VA then you obviously have no idea what you’re talking about. Then again, just the facts, right? BTW, you cite facts then you go into your analysis, are you still citing the facts? or have you engaged in spin? I am just saying at what point did you begin to spin.

As for the Conservative Party, Hoffman ran with no support from a major political party and still shot out into the lead over Dede with a week left to election day. In fact there were polls that had him +4 over Owens with a day or so left
He’d have won it clean if the DIABLO had bowed out sooner.
As for the +20% Conservatives that vote Democrat or are Democrat…. You can’t be that naive.
Did it occur to you that many of them might just stay home??????
….Or do not register to a major political party.
