FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

There are *8* Congressional Districts in Maryland.

There are not 75. Hey, everyone else is looking up their state, so I might as well do so, too.

Of course, the really offensive thing – this merely shows that we’re going to have spent 18 million on a database full of garbage entries; something that I already knew – is that the best case scenario is that in Maryland the government spent $3,178,239,416 to ‘save or create’ 6,748 jobs. That works out to $471,024.74 per job. For that kind of money I could have guaranteed 10,964 people a US national median income AND medical benefits (average for a family of four) for five years (with an operating budget of $1 million a year, and of course a personal salary of $1 million/year for that period*). The breakdown:

Jobs Created 10,964
Median Household Income $ 44,389
Average HC Costs/yr $ 13,400
Per-family $ 57,789
Per family, Five years $ 288,945
Total Amount $ 3,167,992,980
Admin Costs (5 yr) $ 5,000,000
My compensation (5 yr) $ 5,000,000
Adjusted cost $ 3,177,992,980
Savings $ 246,436

I even saved the government money! That makes me fiscally prudent and everything.

Moe Lane

*I’ll take care of my own health care, thanks. And if you’re wondering about who does the paperwork… well, I just hired almost 11,000 people to not actually do anything, didn’t I? They can draw straws.

Most of the jobs were for call center that was temporary. Those jobs are already gone (since August).

Wasn’t it Obama himself that was claiming when unemployment was around 5.5% that many of the jobs were temporary and low-paying and he was going to change that?

Sorry…you’ll have to excuse our inaccuracies. It just goes with the territory.

  • makemyday

Right under the web page header is the following:

“related to Recovery Act spending and allows for the reporting of potential fraud, waste, and abuse.”

Maybe we should flood the site with reports of fraud??????

I looked up Louisiana and was pleased to see that the 8th Congressional District recorded 304.8 jobs created or saved. It wasn’t the best-performing district in the state but it still got better numbers than the 4th District, which is a big morale-booster for the people of the 8th since their district hasn’t actually existed since 1990.

The 22nd and 45th Districts are still having a rough go of it, though…

    ((How inept is it???))

The Obama administration is so inept that it spends lots of money buying the votes of non-existent districts, Kowalsk.i

’cause Obama’s White House thinks Texas has 91 Congressional districts.

  • bs

I’d immediately declare my candidacy for the 33rd CD. You could claim credit for bringing millions of recovery dollars to your district and be a hero.

…while a handful of garbage districts were listed (like the 83rd… seriously?), most of them didn’t “save or create” any jobs, and didn’t get much money.

However, about 40% of the money the entire state got, and about five times more than any other district, went to one single district… the 8th, which includes Lansing.

Sounds like we’ve stimulated government and not much else here.

Help firm up DEMOCRATS by providing slush fund handouts. No matter how many handouts ObamaBinBiden attempts to feed our Canadian (literally) Socialist (also literally) Governor Granholm she would never get the Budget under control.

  • makemyday

That would be Gary Peters the freshman democrat that took over from long time Republican Congressman Joe Knollenburg last election.

  • roscopico

Can’t wait to share my screencap. Why do the libs think the gummint can get ANYTHING right?

  • mikefisk

The 8th is Mike Rogers, a Republican who has served since 2001.

  • hoosierdad

People should start calling their local TV news outlets / “Problem Solvers” segments and have them raise a stink about this. I just checked out Indiana’s information, and after our *9* actual congressional districts, we also apparently had nearly $5,000,000 awarded to the 10th, 11th, 14th, 18th, and 00th districts.

    Apparently, districts 12, 13, 15, 16, and 17 got nothing.

And who lives in these imaginary districts?

Is that where the illegial aliens live??

in my economically depressed zip code in north-central Florida (red). Way to go!

Interestingly, my congressional district gets the lion’s share of all Florida expenditures, but…it all went to Tallahassee (blue).

Typical government program. It’s always about using the force of law to take money from people so it can be used to buy votes for the incumbent.

Texas has seen an increase in its population since Obama won the election last year?

Hopefully, most of the newcomers to Texas are conservative!

    70121 0 $117,936,547
So, in LA Zip Code 70121, they spent 118 million of OUR money to create ZERO jobs??
Coincidence? Louisiana’s most Republican district (LA01, PVI of R+26) received the least amount of money. Also, since when does LA have 45 districts?

The guy programming the database thought he was supposed to be putting in the number of States instead of districts and he’s dyslexic to boot. These sorts of things are bound to happen from time to time.

    Not buying that?

    Me either.

Hope you get the job creating grant. Can I be your first employee? I’ll even volunteer to do the paperwork so the other employees don’t have to draw straws.

I went on to Recovery.Gov and looked up loans gaurenteed through the Federal Government (SBA probably). The reason stated for giving these loans is that they couldn’t get credit through private financing. I crosschecked them through the Secretary of State’s Website for date of incorporation. I found five very quickly that had incorporated in the second quarter this year. These businesses are the type that are likely to do oh so well in a recession, such as dog washing ($128,000) turf installation ($120,000) *&* Enterprise ($602,000 incorporated 05/01/2009). Nothing against start-ups, but having the taxpayers gaurantee re-payment of loans to banks, based on unproven business plans, is not right.

  • joayn

why, I thought we only had 53 congressional districts, but according to Obama’s figures, we have 101! And the 101st is just listed as “congressional district” – no actual number so I am assuming …

That means that there are 48 districts out there somewhere WHO ARE SECRETLY SPENDING MONEY ON SOME KIND OF JOB-MAKING SHENANIGANS.

The 48 new districts, saved or imagined, are amnestry districts. Ya think?

There were more jobs created in the fictional 00 district than in the actual, existent 1st and 2nd congressional districts. Check it out:

Dana Rohrbacher’s (R) 46th district from Rancho Palos Verdes to Huntingon Beach, jobs created: 180 for $ 708,367,394. Wow, need to move there.

Top district was Doris Matsui (D), 5th district in metro Sacramento. Jobs created: 94,840.9 for $3,719,701,156. Probably all government jobs. Seriously.

Middle district was Barbara Lee’s (D) 9th district, from Berkley to Castro Valley, jobs created: 1,087.1 for $1,641,914,379. Colleges and government jobs. Probably.

Top recipients were all colleges and government agencies. Very sick and very sad.

    we must report recovery.gov! for

Fraud in “creating or saving jobs”.
Waste in wasting time and electrons to publish this garbage online.
Abuse for treating us ans if we are stupid.

they aren’t temporary anymore, they are non existent.

give the dim-witted ?bamatrons a pass thinking that they possibly meant Maryland State Legislative districts.

Nope, there are only 47 of those:

They list up to 99 districts, and we only have 18 representatives in the House. That’s what’s been wrong–we’re under-represented!

Come to think of it, they’re going to need a bigger building for the House if every state is missing Reps. That translates into construction jobs–bingo! Instant stimulus! And they can say they created all those jobs as Representatives, too.

Now, what to do about the Senate…

  • shaitra

My state shows fictional districts as well.

  • Hooah_Mac

They are making stuff up. The expectation of the Obama White House is that they will not be called on it, and by and large they will be right. That is why blogs, tea parties and similar activism is so important.

It is notable that statists usually assert power over the media as early as possible in their reigns. Unfortunately for us, the media was already in the pocket of the current statist when he took power.

  • gekster

we have eight invisible districts that recieved $105 million.
They must be under water in the lakes.

  • gekster
  • RJD

(grew up in Kansas, but reside in South Florida) has 14 districts ranging from 1 to 99. But, the maps I’ve seen only have four (districts 1, 2 3 and 4 represented by congressional seats) delineated.
Depending on the source, Kansas should have 8 districts and four congressional seats.

Maybe the Obama Administration is already factoring in redistricting? *chuckle*

  • mustango

Of course that bit from the Star Trek episode was lifted from 1984, but hey, Patrick Stewart as a less tragic version of Winston Smith isn’t a bad thing.

  • mustango

I had a thought that some of those were intended to reflect state House districts. Of course, the Maryland example makes it clear that even if that’s the case they’re quite inconsistent about it. But not to worry, they’ll figure out how to blame Republicans for it, just like with other wonderful examples of record keeping tools such as the Katrina debit cards and the Florida butterfly ballots.

Just with a brief glance, two zip codes are listed as being in Virginia and receiving more than 1 million each, but the zip codes aren’t actually in Virginia.

Zip code 37738, from Gatlinburg TN is listed as being in Virginia and receiving 1.158 million. Zip code 02190, from South Weymouth MA is also listed as part of Virginia and receiving 1.071 million.

Virginia has 11 congressional districts. It has had 11 since the late 1800′s. Yet Recovery.gov lists the following districts which don’t exist with cash received and jobs created:
    - 12th, 5 jobs created
    - 00th, 2.5 jobs created
    - 36th, 10 jobs created
    - 26th, 5.6 jobs created
    - 79th, 7 jobs created
    - 13th, 3 jobs created
    - 21st, 1 job created.

Recovery.gov also lists the following fake districts as part of Virginia and receiving cash with no jobs created:
    - 17th
    - 51st
    - 98th
    - 25th
    - 29th.

It would be wonderful if Virginia has 98 very red districts, but we only have 11. We’ve had 11 for more than 100 years.
