Scouts Score SEIU Scalps.

Eight of them:

Allentown union official Nick Balzano has been a political punching bag all week because he threatened to file a grievance against the city for allowing a Boy Scout to clear a walking path in a city park.

Three days of taking body blows nationally from conservative pundits, a rebuke from the Lehigh Valley’s congressman and even a lashing from his own union led Balzano to voluntarily resign his position Thursday as head of the local Service Employees International Union.

Balzano said he and seven other executive officers of the local SEIU stepped down.

Via HolyCoast.com. Note that the SEIU itself hung Balzano out to dry: when your guys are already out there on camera beating up protesters and gadflies, it’s not a good time to start a fight with the Boy Scouts of America*.  I suggest that the various loyalists of that organization keep that in mind.

*Not that it’s ever a good time.  Nobody smart in American politics messes with the Scouts. Boy or Girl Scouts.

Nobody messes with the Scouts.

If anybody EVER messes with the supply chain of Thin Mints, I will personally go jihadi on their posterior.

I have the strangest feeling I won’t be alone in that sentiment.

Moe,

Did you read any of the comments from the story you linked? I get more out of those sometimes, more so than the story. Seems most posters are a bit, shall we say “peeved” at the SEIU.

I do wonder what sort of job Nick Balzano does for the city, maybe strong arm collections of parking fines?

If it were just a matter of being an idiot,

ubetcha Monday, November 30th at 1:20AM EST (link)

the numbers of union officials would decrease dramatically. Most I’ve ever met lack any sort of common sense or skill but somehow they have an undeserved respect and job security I do not understand.

Any one I ever spoke to in a union situation generally agrees with me about the incompetence of their people in the same industry.

It’s really too bad that being a idiots is not enough to reduce their numbers; they have to do something to very publicly display their idiotic nature before they get canned. It seems like merely creating a liability is just not enough.

I’m a lefty pretending to be a Republican. That is why I got banned. Why do I do such stupid things? My Leader, Barack Obama, is a miserable failure, and so I come here to cause trouble.

I'm calling moby on ubetcha.

A few years back the homosexuals were attacking the Boy Scouts… I believe the legal assault even reached the Supreme Court.

I called Senator Voinovich and Dewine to urge them to support the Scouts. I was told by their staffers, “You don’t understand how powerful the gay lobby is… blah, blah, blah…”. Pathetic.

For the record, Congressman Chabot expressed his 100% for the Boy Scouts… along with my State Rep and State Senator.

Wanna have fun this CHRISTMAS?

DerKrieger Saturday, November 21st at 9:07PM EST (link)

O/T - My dad sent me this in e-mail and I thought it was funny enough to share. Should definitely be a Red State Christmas plan.

It is time to get out your CHRISTMAS cards list!
Yes, you read this right….. CHRISTMAS cards.
This is coming early (really early) so that you can get
ready to include an important address to your list.

Read on……..
Fun with the ACLU……
Wanna have some fun this CHRISTMAS?
Send the ACLU a CHRISTMAS card this year.

As they are working so very hard to get rid of the
CHRISTMAS part of this holiday, we should all send
them a nice CHRISTIAN card to brighten up their
dark, sad, little world.

Make sure it says “Merry CHRISTMAS” on it.
Here’s the address;
just don’t be rude or crude.
(That’s not the Christian way, you know!)

ACLU
125 Broad Street
18th Floor
New York, NY 10004

Two tons of CHRISTMAS cards would freeze their
operations because they wouldn’t know if any were
regular mail containing contributions. So spend
44 cents and tell the ACLU to leave CHRISTMAS
alone.

We really need to communicate with the ACLU!

They really DESERVE us!!

Send one to CAIR, too

Redstate Badge?

daddyofducks Saturday, November 21st at 9:23PM EST (link)

The Boy Scout ought to get a badge for this, does Redstate have one someone could send him!

If Allentown authorized or knew and suffered his doing the work,

Achance Saturday, November 21st at 9:41PM EST (link)

the union would probably have won the arbitration. Cleaning that trail was in the union’s work jurisdiction and they had laid off members; they’re entitled to the work and if the city authorized him to do it or knew he was doing it and suffered it; under most contracts and before most labor arbitrators, the union or some member gets paid as if they had performed the work. That’s just the way the system works.

What’s interesting is that SEIU was sensitive enough to the politics to back down and may well have put themselves in a situation where they pulled the rug out from under a local board and the board quit over it. There’s more here than meets the eye and we don’t know all the facts.

It is simply true they will get money for labor not theirs.

And that’s why we need to readjust union contracts.

If they want to get in between volunteer activism, we need to renegotiate their contracts.

Moe, you are absolutely right about not messing with Scouts.

The_Gadfly Sunday, November 22nd at 8:45AM EST (link)

I will never give to United Way because some of their chapters decided to remove the Boy Scouts of America from the organizations they fund. At the time I was in PA and it wasn’t the local affiliates, but that doesn’t matter to me. The UW will not get a dime from me nor will I ever support their fund raising efforts. Until I was laid off I regularly sent a small contribution to the Lancaster-Lebanon council where I was a Scout. As soon as I am employed again, they will be the first ones back on my donation list.

We’ve been called racists enough now that it shouldn’t bother us any more.
