It’s going to take a while for them to cycle through the process, though. As in, more than a week. A lot more than a week.

The Met Office plans to re-examine 160 years of temperature data after admitting that public confidence in the science on man-made global warming has been shattered by leaked e-mails.

The new analysis of the data will take three years, meaning that the Met Office will not be able to state with absolute confidence the extent of the warming trend until the end of 2012.

The Met Office database is one of three main sources of temperature data analysis on which the UN’s main climate change science body relies for its assessment that global warming is a serious danger to the world.

Just in time for Copenhagen, which relied heavily on the climate change data that CRU provided, and can no longer even remotely back up. Meanwhile, the President – who seems to have a real gift at walking into these controversies at the worst possible moment for him – seems determined to use the luster of his name to ensure results at the Copenhagen thing. Personally, I think that it’d be good for the planet, the country, and his political party if the President just dropped the trip entirely. Which he won’t, of course.

Via Q&O, who thinks that they should completely cancel Copenhagen; and Hot Air, who thinks that the British government should stop trying to keep the Met Office from pushing the reset button. And if either actually happens, all three of us will be massively surprised.

Copenhagen has nothing to do with man induced climate change; it has everything to do with the rationalization of global governance. The President has changed the timing of his visit to prop up his argument to the collapse of the entire argument. I read it’s been about two weeks since the hacked emails exposed this global hoax, but not one major alphabet News outlet has mentioned the story. Hmmmmm, not too hard to figure out. It matters not how much finagling they do to message the numbers, the cats out of the bag.

This thing is developing very rapidly:

ABRUPTLY changed the date of his visit .. on a Friday.

Don’t tell me the Presdient of the World wasn’t privvy to this information – released THE SAME DAY he moved his visit some ** 9 days **.

That’s a huge shift in his schedule. Enough to allow for further developments, other countries to bail and this story to run its course.

And, of course, worse-case scenario — this “abrupt” change may be a set-up for another abrupt departure — maybe due to conflicting schedules due to some other Secretary’s screw-up.

Bad news is always conveniently delivered on a Friday, too — if he doesn’t show, there’s the weekend for a no-show to blow over.

The press will shrug his no-show over the weekend and it will be politics as usual come Monday.

I wonder what new media distraction will be brewing for the lead-up that week..

Maybe Geithner will finally be shoved under the bus.

The transformation of journalists from whistleblowers to cheerleaders became obvious to many Americans during last year’s presidential election. So pervasive is the leftist atmosphere that ambitious people in other industries and in many urban settings have learned that to even express curiosity about conservatism instead of accepting the crudest of caricatures of the political opposition might stigmatize them as unpardonably stupid and unfit for their high status jobs. Those who used to love to say that dissent is the highest form of patriotism have been assiduously working to assure that dissent from the agenda they have been weaving will be considered the lowest form of stupidity.

The moral of the “Emperor’s New Clothes” certainly applies to AGW and many of those who accepted the assertions by non scientists with political agendas that the science was settled. The emperor’s advisors and subjects were so afraid of appearing stupid that they suspended their judgment. Thus they ended up demonstrating to the entire world that they were indeed stupid.

How appropriate that the busy weavers of the left and those who still refuse to see that there is nothing at all to see in AGW will be going to the home town of the emperor who put all his shortcomings on full display.

The controversy swirling around the leaked e-mails of climate scientists apparently trying to downplay data and exclude dissenting opinions has led to calls for President Obama to skip this month’s climate summit in Denmark until the e-mails can be investigated.

Instead, the White House announced Friday that Obama was doubling down on his commitment to the summit’s goals and moving his visit later in the month, hoping it will secure a “meaningful” agreement.

The White House is shrugging off the Climate-gate e-mails.

“I think there’s no real scientific basis for the dispute of (global warming),” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said this week.

And Obama’s top science adviser, John Holdren, downplayed the e-mails Friday, telling Congress that the controversy involves a small group of scientists and how they have interpreted and shared global warming data.

The president’s climate czar, former Environmental Protection Agency administrator Carol Browner, said she’s sticking with scientists who believe in man’s impact on global warming.

how is it possible to review the results when the original raw data is unavailable? I am missing something here? Or was there statement that they destroyed the raw data during a move a lie as well?

Everybody keeps talking about the ‘hacked” e-mails. The programmers notes are far more telling. They indicate a level of malfeasance in the handling of data and the the following of best practices in the analysis of the raw data. Their is no way to salvage this data now. What we need is, How do you say it? A complete reset on the research.

I am all for conservation. I think that it is important that we leave something in the Middle East for for our enemies to eat when we transition away from oil for our transportation uses. We need more nuclear and we need to transition to natural gas in the transportation fleet until such day as other forms of energy are viable for that purpose.

WE need to pursue new technologies to make coal cleaner. We we do not need to do is to commit economic suicide by adopting a massive tax that transfers wealth and sovereignty to the UNwhich is the real agenda of the IPCC and the wacked out communists leading the “Green” movment. . The destruction of western western civilization will create far more problems than it would solve.

In the near-term, climate research that requires global-temperature datasets will produce questionable, unverifiable results until all of the datasets are reconstructed and independently validated.

The Science and Public Policy Institute, in compiling its global-temperature graphs for the authoritative Monthly CO2 Reports, had originally relied upon all four of the major datasets.

We were compelled to drop the NASA GISS/NOAA NCDC dataset when it became apparent that the data from more than half a century ago were being deliberately manipulated in an improper manner with the manifest intention of artificially inflating the true rate of observed warming in the 20th century.

We must now also cease to use the Hadley/CRU dataset, which ? on the evidence made public by the courageous whistleblower at the University of East Anglia ? is little better than science fiction.

In future, therefore, the SPPI monthly surface-temperature graphs will exclude the two terrestrial-temperature datasets altogether and will rely solely upon the RSS and UAH satellite datasets.

We shall also in future carry a warning that since these two datasets were originally calibrated against the surface datasets they may contain a substantial ? though inadvertent and not readily quantifiable ? inbuilt warming bias.

Three years to complete the analysis and reconstruction? That seems overly optimistic in my estimation.

to be bale to make specific, certain predictions on the validity of warming (or cooling) in a 4.0 billion year old living ecosystem based on a weak collection of data dating back only 100 years or so.

Especially, when the scientists manipulate samples (sizes and locations) taken to represents “proxy” temps for periods going back over 150 years.

So, time for “reset”. Let us design a program to study the issue using best technology and practices in an open manner so all can see. I would say, given the technology with a well though out plan, we should have a very good feel for what the truth is in about 50 years.

In the mean time, we are NOT going to institute a MASSIVE tax that would not, indeed could not stop what we are unable to ascertain for sure, or even reasonably sure. No more “religious” devotion to a scientific theory in terms of who gets money or who gets their research heard.

Simple – we do not pass trillion dollar taxes designed to undermine the economy of the US and hand over the sovereignty of the US to the UN based on suspect research and theories.

The climate-alarmists’ theory is based almost entirely on the fictitious Atmospheric CO2 Greenhouse Effect.

According to Newton’s Second Law of Thermodynamics, such a planetary mechanism can never exist.

CO2 is not driving temperature as claimed, because the temperature changes precede the changes in CO2 levels by about a thousand years.
