FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

Brian Baird (D, WA-03) Bails out.

He’s retiring (third Democrat from a at-risk district).  It’s a D+0 seat: contra the New York Times, Cook had it as being competitive (Likely Democratic), and that will be almost certainly be upgraded rather quickly.  Baird’s reasoning?  He wants to spend more time with his family.  Judging from the reactions of his colleagues, this sudden desire comes as a bit of a surprise.

Interestingly, the six-term, 53 year old Congressman was not on the NRCC’s target-for-retirement list.  He had three GOP challengers:

David B. Castillo
David William Hedrick (This guy)
Jon David Russell

…and that’s all I know about them.  Well, that and that one of them just got a much improved chance to be the next Congressman from WA-03.

As do the other Dems who’re bugging out.
I expect double-digit retirements this campaign season.

I could see Kanjorski – he’s got a primary challenger on the left, and Lou Barletta is running again

That is one case where we face a better chance against the incumbent. He barely won in 2008, in a heavily Democratic year in a Democratic district. His primary challenger is younger, a probably a much better candidate. Kanjorski is very vulnerable if he runs again.

Supposedly, Collin Peterson of MN told a reporter today he isn’t sure he is running again

Just shows what the National RINO Congressional Committee knows. There’s plenty of winnable districts if they would just get out of the way, start thinking out of the box and let the ‘right’ challengers emerge.

Can’t believe I wasted money on that group a decade ago…

I’d like to know exactly what people like Baird and Tanner and Moore are seeing in their polling that is causing them to bug out.

Somebody needs to get a DCCC staffer drunk and find out what’s going on! ;)

To the other three candidates, but Jaime Herrera from Washington’s 18th Legislative District has confirmed that she will run for Baird’s seat and she is a much stronger candidate. I think it’s highly unlikely that any of the others can beat her in the primary.

and another one gone, and another one gone. Hey Demo-commies,
in 2010, WE’RE COMING FOR YOU ALL!!!

Just curious but would this be Dino Rossi’s district?

  • http://itsonlywords55.wordpress.com itsonlywords

The 3rd is SW Washington. I’m not sure where Rossi lives, but I’d guess the 8th, Dave Reichert’s district.

Seems to be conservative, young, attractive, Hispanic woman. Exactly what we should be looking for.
