CO-GOV: Bill Ritter (D) at 40%.

It’s a bad time to be an incumbent Democrat:

Like many Democrats nationwide these days, Colorado Governor Bill Ritter who was easily elected in 2006 finds himself trailing his chief Republican opponent in a potential 2010 match-up.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state shows former GOP Congressman Scott McInnis ahead of Ritter 48% to 40%. Four percent (4%) like some other candidate, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.

This is down from McInnis/Ritter 44/39 in September, and can’t really be blamed on the health care rationing bill, although it’s entirely possible that the Democrats’ recent decision to shut down the coal industry is a factor here.  What makes this fascinating to watch is that Bill Ritter was a 2006 Golden Child; even in 2008 he was popular.  Right now Colorado Democrats should be giving serious consideration to trying to replace him in the primary.

Won’t happen, of course.

There’s been a lot of backroom dealing, Penry dropped out, McInnis claimed status as the “tea party candidate”, then had to back off of that (in a roundabout sorta way).

This thing ain’t over by a long shot.

A recent (May ’09) Brown University Taubman School of Government poll had once un-shakable incumbent Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-RI-01) at 42%. That was before his outburst attacking the Catholic Church. Even local liberal newspapers are calling for his defeat. I think Republican State Rep John Loughlin’s (www.johnloughlin.org) stock is rising!
    The tide is turning!

… my Congressman when I lived in Summit and Eagle Counties….I always thought he was sort of a squish when it came to being a NOUN CONSERVATIVE and still do…however…just went through his voting record as recorded in “On the Issues” and found only 2 votes to disagree with 1.) Voting to NOT allow hospitals to report ILLEGAL border crashers to the ICE…and 2.) raising the CAFE standards. Both these votes can probably be explained by all the illegal workers and greenie tree huggers in the ski areas and west slope…people that would not vote for him anyway….so guess that makes him an adjective conservative. ALL the left organizations gave him bad grades ARA and APHA at 11%, ACLU a 7%, and AFL-CIO a 0%. As Governor he will have to be concerned about the underfunded County hospitals besieged by illegals and the higher costs imposed on Colorado because of CAFE (too numerous to list)…so GOOD LUCK SCOTT and LORI in Denver!!!! I think you will make a good Governor, maybe even turn into a noun conservative like Bill Owen who started as a noun and ended as an adjective.
