Clinton in 2016?

That’s what the Telegraph thinks, at least. Hard to say whether the British paper’s distance from the situation help or hurts its judgment, but they’ve found an interesting poll:

A recent poll by the Clarus Research Group found that Hillary Clinton had a 75 per cent approval rating compared to 51 per cent for the man who defeated her in their epic battle for the Democratic nomination.

[snip]

The woman who was one of the most polarising figures in American politics now has a glowing 65 per cent approval rating among Independents and healthy 57 per cent among Republicans.

Even sworn enemies on the Right marvelled at her toughness in refusing to concede to Obama until the bitter end in the summer of 2008 and now view her as more hawkish than the president.

(Poll here: H/T Hot Air Headlines.) Just off the top of my head: being ‘more hawkish than the president’ isn’t exactly hard, and while the VRWC is sympathetic towards the way that her primary opponent’s campaign apparatus used a largely gender-based attack strategy against her last year I predict that said sympathy will evaporate like dew in August if she ever becomes the Democratic nominee for President*.  That may not matter, given that a 65% approval rating among independent voters (almost double that of her boss) is enough to make any thoughtful politician stop with her coffee cup halfway to her lips.

Lastly: man, aside from SecState Clinton and Bush appointee SecDef Gates, those are wretched numbers for independent voters across the board.  Although VP Biden’s are arguably just ‘awful.’

Hillary Diane Rodham was born on October 26, 1947.
That will make Mrs. Clinton 69 in 2016. That would tie Ronald Reagan who was also 69 when he was elected. Hillary Clinton is no Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan was the 2nd oldest former President.
He lived 93 years, 120 days – Gerald Ford was the number one oldest former President – 93 years, 165 days.

(Not that any of this really makes any difference – I just cannot see the left getting all fired up for a failed former Secretary of State whose husband cheated on her while she was first lady – just great holiday trivia)

Maybe a bargain was forged between the democratic leadership, Mr.Obama and Hillary Clinton when she abruptly decided to step out of the race for President in 2008.

Mr.Obama deal was never to run for a second term. The goal is to ram through as much of a socialist agenda as possible without the fear of low approval ratings going forward. The left knows these proposals will cause a presidential and congressional election backlash. The maneuver gives the left greater control over the voting class cementing their base. This results in more Americans relegated to dependency upon a welfare state mentality.

2012 Election begins and Mr. Obama graciously steps aside due to some concocted excuse. Health reasons or maybe someone leaks his true birth certificate ( kidding ).

Then miraculously Hillary steps forward, fresh from four years of international experience as secretary of state. ( international experience being one of her short comings in the 2008 election ). The tough laws ( energy and health care ) are done, the base expanded and Hillary can run more to the center to capture the trust of mainstream American.

The problem is the American people who thought they were voting for CHANGE will not get reduced government but larger more intrusive government. Look at California.

    Just a little speculation.

The Russian got their big red mislabeled button, she dissed Our Lady of Guadalupe, had a hissy fit over in Africa, and is distinctly MIA in terms of the Middle East.

Plus, I read a headline on Drudge last night that a new book’s coming out detailing why the Feds were close to indicting her and hubby Bill just before the two of them left the White House. So to recap: incompetence, temper displays, and a really shady background.

Yep, perfect Dem material for higher office. She’s a shoe-in.

I personally think Hillary will primary Obama in 2012. If the Dems lose big in Congress and Obama is bouncing around in the low 40s even getting 95%+ from black voters, then he will be very vulnerable to a primary challenge.

of course, it’s going to depend on how close she is to Obama’s hip. If she’s still a part of them after 2011, the Donks won’t ask her to run.
