How the worm has turned in Virginia.

Just a random thought: in the process of apparently losing a state Senate special election in Virginia, Democratic candidate Dave Marsden (who is apparently doing his level best to appear ‘bipartisan’) put this letter to the editor up as part of his attempt to win.  Please note this sentence:

Virginia benefits most from the reasonable expression of many viewpoints, but we are in danger of becoming a one-party state.

Oh.  Oh, how quickly the tide rolls back out, too…

Moe Lane

PS: Speaking of which: Senator WebbJames.  I know that there have been harsh words written about you.  I know that I have personally (and regretfully) written harsh words about you.  Unfortunate things are often said and written in the tension of close election campaigns.  But you will have another one of those in two years – and trends in Virginia are going against your adopted (and ill-fitting, really) party.  The target of your revenge has gone on to a dignified retirement.  The issue that triggered your defection has passed.

So have you really thought about where you see yourself being in 2013?

We already have one self-important narcissist who makes political alliances (and betrayals) based on personal pique. Does the Republican party really need another McCain?

Maybe we should just DEFEAT Webb in 2012, rather than coopt him.

Let’s not and say we did. Party switching is fun, but Leadership has to put enourmous effort into satisfying the needs of the switcher. Look at the D’s and Arlen. Are they really happy with what they have?

It would have been far better to have Arlen as the lone Republican vote on HCR than have to defend him in a primary fight.

Let’s go after Webb and take him out.

Any time I hear a politician spouting populist BS, I want his career struck down dead. Populism is nothing more than legalized theft. The people who preach it are dishonest hucksters.

They offer the mob other people’s property in return for votes. That practice will ultimately destroy American Democracy. Webb must be cashiered in 2012.

when we could potentially replace him with someone much closer to our side in the Republican Party–I’m thinking a conservative even! Webb had no problem being the 60th vote in the HC Senate travesty of a vote. In the end, regardless of his final vote on the final bill, if he gets to pretend he was not really for it, he still was ‘Spartacus” for the Dems. And I am truly sorry they they co-opted the Spartacus meme.

I personally do not like Webb, there is some distaste for him from military folks, as well as just remember his rudeness to Pres. Bush right after he (Webb) entered the Senate.

..has demonstrated that he spinelessly votes with the party, not with the people he represents. The Tea Party purge of the Republican Party won’t be completed by 2012, so if he becomes a Republican and gets reelected he will vote as his party bosses tell him.

We were never stupid; we’re no longer naive.

One and done for the Webbster.

do you think there is a possibility of Webb flipping? I think you are sort of suggesting that, and I can see the value in that right now, and would not be against it, of course. But I don’t think he is sincere with anything he says. We contacted his office a number of times regarding the HC bill and kept getting responses that made us almost be hopeful that he would do the right thing. To no avail, and in the end I think he is just a politician, only a Democratic one!

He writes a book called Born Fighting, then he seems to do everything to be as Moderate as possible. If he likes a good fight, the Republican side is where all the fighting is to be had. He’s taken a couple of oaths to preserve and defend the constitution, then treats it like a bowl of jello. He extols the virtue of Scots-Irish independance, then votes for a HC bill that mandates the behavior of every individual and corporation in the country.
I would like to see him join the Republican Party, but he is going to need to cork up a lot more courage than he has shown to date.

I’m a big tent Republican, but if you voted for ObamaCare, I don’t want you in the Republican Party. That legislation contradicts conservative principles from every angle possible. Same goes for Lieberman. I like that he from time to time sticks his finger in Liberals’ eyes, but at the end of the day, he’s a liberal Democrat that voted for the Porkulus, voted for ObamaCare, votes for Leftist judges, votes against cutting taxes, etc.

The best way to change the Senate is to defeat Democrats and elect conservative Republicans. If someone runs for office on the Democrat ticket, that speaks volumes, and I simply don’t trust them. Ever. If you’re truly a conservative, why are you a member of a liberal political party?

all his own, but always votes the party line anyway. He comes across as arrogant and aloof. His boilerplate replies to his constituents are downright patronizing. Politically, that puts him atsome risk. He can cross over if he wants to, but he won’t fool anyone.

Remember, too, that Virginia is a Right-to-Work state, which has saved her so far from total destruction, but taxes on the job-creators are taking their toll. As the demographics change (a large chunk of the second baby boom in recent years graduates from college this year), Democrats will have to explain to young voters where all the good jobs went. 23-year-olds who live in mom’s basement will gradually start to realize who killed the golden-egg goose.

That’s all that Webb is. When he was handed a bag of do-do by his mentor Lehman, he couldn’t find a way to really be a political leader, he submitted his resignation as SECNAV in a most immature manner, but then what does one expect from flip-floppers? And, he’s continued his antics forward.

…Virginia needs to dump that sicko and get him the hell out of there. Run Cantor or the AG or somebody against him and waste his ass.

Where’s all this discussion about his Party being an ill fit? He seemed just about right for the DNC to me. And why would we EVER discuss bringing him over to the GOP?

Better to get Lieberman. At least HE’s honest. We may not always (or ever) agree, but at least we’ll always know where he stands.

You and I have given our kids the same Teddy Bear with the bunny suit. Conservative minds think alike :-)

On another note, Webb cost us Allen by framing him as a racist all while spreading anti-Semitism. I’ll take a pass on welcoming that. Lets keep all the racists in their original party-the Democratic one.
