FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

Rasmussen: Coakley/Brown 50/41.

Nine points.  In Masssachusetts.  And look here:

Both candidates get better than 70% of the vote from members of their respective parties, but Brown leads 65% to 21% among voters not affiliated with either of the major parties.

Rasmussen’s not pretending that this race isn’t a tough one for Brown, and neither will I: but I told a reporter yesterday that Coakley would have to win by at least ten points to keep national Democrats from getting nervous. Her being single-digits now should set off alarm bells for both parties…

It’s Massachussetts. The Dems could run Hitler and win in that state. Still, it’s worth a try.

  • cari

I was kind of thinking that the absence of a poll was a good thing- it was keeping Brown’s ascent under the radar. Hopefully this poll won’t spring the Dems into action.

Also, for those in MA who aren’t paying attention, the fact that the libertarian candidate’s name is Joe Kennedy. Maybe that will siphon some Dem votes from Coakley.

  • Swamp_Yankee

I hope it doesn’t send off alarm bells for the Democrats. The GOP is pretty motivated already. Martha isn’t even campaigning, and her base isnt even trying. But this is about as good as I expected.

I’d like to see it linger in that range in the press, while Brown closes the gap. I’ve been looking for some data on the difference a GOTV effort can make. I dont think there is much precedent for a special election in January in New England, but I’m just going to throw 5% percent out there. I suspect the real number is probably about 5% less than whatever is polled.

I really dont think Dems are going to vote. The senior, student, city/section eight, and Capuano, Khazei, and Pagliuca vote will all be supressed.

They will bring out the SEIU – so lets keep calling our fellow citizens in Mass and ask them for the vote for Brown! Watch for “found” votes in trunks as well –
They will be keeping a close eye on this vote – wonder if the black panthers are getting their clubs ready for poll duty? Perhaps Holder will issue a special permit for this…..

Eagen and Braude are liberals with Kennedy and Coakley are all on one side. Brown on the other.

Spent the Holidays at my sister who lives right outside Boston ( Belmont) and I saw no indication any race was on horizon

Asked my sister if she thought Brown could win and she shrugged hopefully

You have to hope Dem turnout is low but Independents come out

Wed received 45% of vote for US Senate Race in 1996 compared to 41% for Romney in 1994 ( they both were running against Incum and one in Presidential year)

A win is hopeful although and even if its loss a bare one could be scary for Dems nationwide

  • profg

It’s wrapping up – all three really did well at holding their own.

  • earlgrey

That is surprising. Any ideas for that.

Signed up for the money bomb. Next Monday it will be cool to watch.

  • jeffreywturner

Let’s say Brown wins, what is the exact date he will be seated in the Senate?

If it is a couple weeks after the election, look for the Dems to rush Obamacare to a cloture vote before that happens.

  • erp

Will the Republican leadership wake up and start running ads about how the Dems are meeting in secret to cram through the medical insurance scam in congress, the Dem’s lack of interest in keeping us safe from terrorism, the plethora of czars, Obama’s disastrous foreign policies …

It could be a piece of cake, why isn’t our side screaming from the roof tops?

  • profg

Rasmussen Reports question: “Who do you favor for U.S. Senate? Scott Brown, Martha Coakley, Some other candidate, or Not Sure?”

I’m still waiting to see an actual poll that asks the question correctly, so that we can see exactly how much impact the Kennedy name has on the low-IQ Mass. Dems: “Who do you favor for U.S. Senate? Scott Brown, Martha Coakley, Joseph Kennedy, or Not Sure?”

If it had been worded that way – like they’ll see it on the ballot come Jan. 19th – I’m guessing it would have looked more like Brown-41, Coakley-35,Kennedy-17, Not Sure-5.

Of course I could be wrong – but wouldn’t it be nice to know? Come on, Rasmussen – I thought you were a professional pollster? Leaving off a candidate’s name, when his name is KENNEDY in Massachusetts? Seriously?

  • makemyday

    This from Rasmussen:

    Brown Coakley

    Very Favorable 26% 21%

    Somewhat Favorable 32% 39%

    Somewhat Unfavorable 20% 13%

    Very Unfavorable 5% 22%

    Not Sure 17% 4%

  • Swamp_Yankee

Its a matter of days, but who knows what kin of tricks the Dems would have up their sleeves.

The hope is that a Brown victory alone might get some moderates to pause and fight for “respecting the process”. They butchered the Burris appt. They butchered the Kirk appt.

I hope there is at least one Dem, maybe fellow New Englander Lieberman, who is not tied to Reid, that will say respect the process and letevery vote be heard.

  • Swamp_Yankee

That some other candidate received one percent of the vote. Yeah, 16% of the public would be fooled.

By the way, do you agree that you cant be pro-war and small government like Joke Kennedy stated.

What a waste of air space. Trying to have a serious debate and I have to listen to this clown talking about his IT experience.

  • makemyday

    Wrong reply to this!

  • http://www.mysimplehomegarden.com tbaleno

More than 50% of the people in MA don’t have an issue with anything you brought up. It may even make them not vote for brown.

  • Castor

Once upon a time ,long ,long ago in the distant past when there was a baseball team in Boston called the Boston Braves, the fans would chant: ?Spahn and Sain and pray for rain?in hopes they could rotate their two best pitchers.
This year the Republican chant should be : ?Snow in the air and on the ground
will help Scott Brown to go to town.?

  • http://www.mysimplehomegarden.com tbaleno

Sure he has more vary favorable, but she has many more somewhat favorable. I guess the trick is to eat at some of the somewhat favorable.

Maybe news will get out about her ethics problems. And her illegal use of state campaign funds.

  • jeffreywturner

The number of moderates and conservatives who would be swayed by RNC involvement is probably much lower than the number of liberals who would be incited and motivated to turn out by the same in Massachusetts. This is not a race you want to nationalize.

  • janis

    banned in Boston. :-)

  • Aaron Gardner

    That paints a clearer picture.

  • Aaron Gardner
  • makemyday

in favorable’s and up 10 points unfavorables with 17% undecided in him. That in my mind is huge in that state!

  • NotSoBlueStater

Bill Weld. Paul Cellucci. Jane Swift. Mitt Romney. Ed Brooke. etc., etc.,

Just because the congressional districts are locked down by gerrymandering doesn’t mean the state is locked down by liberals. Kennedy and Kerry were both such long-term incumbents that they became unbeatable here.

Why does Coakley get that sort of respect? She’s well left of the mainstream and doesn’t have the power of incumbency. Plus, Brown is an attactrive candidate. It’s not like the Republicans put up Alan Keyes.

Let’s just positi for discuaaion that Scott Brown better reflects the values of the majority of Massachusetts voters (I believe this is true.). Wouldn’t it be wise to make sure that they at least know this going to the polls?

I have been puzzled from the outset at the lack of national intereest in this campaign. It’s winnable. I think the netroots would have been all over this one if the roles were reversed.

  • Sundayjack

More parochial point, but if Martha loses this race she’s going to be burned at the stake by MA Democrats. She’s running a very poor campaign, and losing a seat held by Kennedys (and surrogates) for the last 57 years will not be handled well. Reason number 42 on why to vote Scott Brown, but still a great reason. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a quiet shake-up in her campaign, with a handful of Obamafolk descending on Massachusetts. Maybe even a visit from Himself.

Massachusetts Military personnel – get your absentee ballots in for Lt. Col. Brown!!

  • swami7774

If Brown were to win, I wouldn’t put it past the MA Legislature to pass a new law granting them the right to appoint an “interim” senator to fill out the last two years of Kennedy’s term.
They’d make it retroactive–to the day before the special election.

  • swami7774

…that could win it for Brown:
    Plymouth County.

  • jtkell100

Massachusetts Patriots Please save this country from this socialist takeover.
This is not a health care bill. This is a bill that has been written so that it would be impossible for any one to understand it. Please vote for Scott Brown so We can start over again on a real health care reform bill. Every one that cares about their Mother, Father, Sisters, Brothers, Daughters, Sons, Aunts, Uncles, Friends and Neighbors please vote for Scott. This bill will kill medicare and bankrupt every state in the union. Massachusetts you will forever be in the history books for saving this Nation.

    Kennedy’s view on Afghanistan:
gekster Monday, January 4th at 9:18PM EST (link)
Opposes President Obama?s troop increase, saying: ?We cannot end a war if we continue to escalate it.
Says: ?The role of the American military should be to defend against attack or the imminent threat of attack, not to act as an ongoing police state on foreign soil.??

And since you support him, you think it?s much better to fight the terrorists on American soil then on forieghn soil?

Talk about shock & awe if an unknown republican candidate takes the seat of the once mighty and powerful Ted Kennedy!

    I say it’s possible.
I work in the lovely liberal state of MA, but unfortunate for me, I can’t vote here.

Also, do we know how the debate went this morning?

That works for me – let MA pick their representative, but let’s support the guy we like.

  • 1stRichard

With national support now ramping up for Brown and the Brown Brigade kicking in overdrive results are going to change quickly in favor of brown. Coakley is still on vacation in her campaign relying on her SEIU/ACORN thugs.

Massachusetts is not all that far left, yet Coakley continues her campaign of socialist/communist class warfare and her socialist/communist subsidy of business. Local opinion indicates some are realizing there are strings attached to this candy, mostly in the unemployment line. Most are underemployed in this state, a good number are on fixed incomes and are starting to realize the cost of socialism/communism and understand they cannot afford any more. I live across the river from what was once ?The Queen of Industrial Cities, Holyoke Massachusetts, but now it is a burnt rotting corpse of its former self. More and more people around here are making the connection, we cannot afford the path we are on now and we need change, the candy is too costly as is Candy Coakley.

Here you go, again, advocating that Cornyn not be involved in GOP primaries, even to help conservatives, and instead funnel money to a moderate Republican in MA.

What does “pro-war” even mean? Is it, “pro- OIF and OEF”? Or is it the immature idea that a nation can elect to not use war, or the threat of war, as a tool in foreign policy and not be destroyed?

Also, nice one. I can hear him singeing from over here.
