FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

I count coup on Senator Chris Dodd (D-Countrywide).

False modesty be damned.

I do not claim the scalp – that honor is collectively shared by the VRWC as a whole – but by God I will count coup on the man.  He’s going out the door, and he didn’t want to go, and his party’s leadership didn’t want him to go.  He’s going because a lot of peopleincluding myself – kept reminding the Connecticut electorate that Chris Dodd was a corrupt suckweasel of a Democrat; and while as a Republican I may be worse off with Richard Blumenthal entering the race, as an American I’m better off with Dodd leaving it.

So good job to everybody else who helped take Dodd down, too.

PS: So, who should be next on the list?

Please lets not give them any more ideas

I would say Skelton in MO, Spratt in SC, Petterson in MN, Boucher in VA, Murtha in PA should think about the sunny skies now

I also am betting Lincoln in AR bows out next. That might be bad news for us too

It doesn’t count if you don’t win the election. As far as Senators who should be beaten about the head, neck and shoulders (metaphorically, of course), my hit-list goes something like this:

Coakley (throw a beatdown to Obamacare from TED KENNEDY’S SEAT. Zomg, that would be the most demoralizing thing EVER!)

Harry Reid (knocking off majority leaders is always fun, plus it sets off a war between Schumer and Durbin)

Blanche Lincoln (Srsly, we can’t win in Arkansas?!)

Evan Bayh — because he’s dangerous. Seriously, this guy on a ticket with Mark Warner in 2016 would absolutely roll to victory, no matter what the climate. Knock a hole in this guy’s squeaky-clean image, or pay the consequences.

I want my Money Back. I don’t care whether they’re holding office or not. I want it BACK.

    She’s gotta go!

  • neoavatara

Clearly, Harry Reid is number 1. Blanche Lincoln has to be high.

I would love to see Barbara Boxer go down…but I probably would be more likely to win the lottery.

…but how would like to have the most liberal Senator of all (now that Obama is no longer a Senator) “representing” you?

Peppermint Patty Murray has GOT to go!

Depending on the candidates, that race w/o Lincoln would likely move to slightly leans Republican status. I really don’t think a Dem can win statewide in AR in 2010. Their usual “conservadem” campaign just isn’t going to work after what we’ve seen our conservadems vote on this year.

Well, I take that back. No dem without Clinton in their name can win. If Chelsea ran, I’d put $500 on her.

Dodd leaving the race means this seat will most likely stay Democrat. Running against him was about the only way a Republican could win statewide in such a blue state.

I really wanted Dodd to go down at the ballot box, it’s a much more satisfying kill.

Simmons still has a good shot, but against Dodd it would have been a lay-up.

I believe that all things taken into account, it would have been better to beat Dodd in November than to have him resign and give the Dems in CT a fresh face to vote for.

Yes! Yes! That is what I meant!

They knew he would lose and they want to keep the seat. They’ll be forcing more out early, is my bet.

Unfortunately, much as I want Dodd to GO, this really takes the wind out of the CT tea partiers’ sails. We’ve attended CT tea parties and they really are just Dump Dodd parties. There’s no true tea party spirit there and they don’t even remember what liberty is. IMHO.

Drat! Blooch, you stole my thunder. At least, Washington will now be a safer place for teen-age Latina waitresses. No thanks to those fervent supporters of minorities such as the NAACP, La Raza and NOW who imitated the famous three monkeys when the Senatorial Sandwitch incident happened. Of course, both Senators had the big protection – the (D) after their name.

I might disagree about the Democratic leadership not wanting Dodd to go… at least not everyone in the leadership. People like Rahm don’t care who the warm body is, as long it has a D next to it. If quietly removing Dodd improves the chances that the seat remains a D, so be it.

  • Brian_Roastbeef

and say that Charlie Rangel is next.

Not that several Dem. Senators, Governors, and a few dozen of Rangel’s friends in the House won’t be going anyway, but Rangel is the most unashamedly crooked about it, and really needs to experience the joys of retirement.

  • bk

I would have rather seen him try for the seat and lose it.

Blumenthal can be beaten. He is corrupt and pretty dumb for appearing on the Beck show when anyone with a brain could see Beck was going to destroy him:

….MURTHA. Lot of corruption in that camp too. If it worked once, it might work again.

  • Mayhem

Evan Bayh has been the proverbial VP pick for years now. Every Dem presidential candidate flirts with him and passes him up. Gore, Kerry, and Obama.

    Don’t worry about him.

  • The_Gadfly

Emphasize exactly that point – Dodd’s “retirement” is part of the three card monte game the Dems play to fleece us out of our hard earned money. In 2010 it is important for the country to vote against anybod with a D behind their name, no matter how honest you think they might be–it’s the only way the Dems will get the message.

  • The_Gadfly

we should just fire a few rounds in the general direction and claim we were aiming for whatever gets hit.

Has anyone tried to convince the popular Republican Governor Jodi Rell to run for Senate? She has already announced she won’t seek re-election as Governor, even though polls show her as an easy winner if she did.
