FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

VA-08: 44/41 Moran/Berry (Caveats).

Said caveats are: Internal poll, D+16 district, and Moran’s still ahead by three.  But a 44/41 Moran/Berry split at this stage is still noteworthy: add five points to Moran’s total and he still polls under 50% – which means that he’s vulnerable.  I don’t mind seeing a 40/38 split on ‘try somebody new’/'keep Moran,’ either.

Post-Massachusetts, it’s no longer reasonable to assume that anybody on the Democratic side is too safe to be defeated: so keep an eye on this race.  I’ve mentioned Matthew Berry before: if I was in his district I’d probably be supporting him in the primary right now, not least because he’s been engaging the new social media (which is a pretentious way of saying ‘he’s actively working to get support’).  And I can’t [expletive deleted] stand Jim [expletive deleted] Moran.  Watching that particular corrupt, anti-Semitic suckweasel go down in flames on Election Night would be a better present than a pony, and I’ve always wanted a pony.

If you want a look at the corrupt, neo-fascist direction the Dems are quickly sinking into, look no further than Jim Moran (D-VA).

  • http://fairfaxgardener.blogspot.com ddstrain

among the Republican candidates. I would still like to see hear a bit more from Beryy and see what Ellmore and Murray are up to before “endorsing”. I don’t think Socci has a chance … who’d vote for a professional lobbyist in this environment …. though VA-8 is awash in lobbyists. Right now Berry does seem to have the infrastructure and money lead.

Moran is vulnerable, but he is in a much safer spot than Coakley in the the “Kennedy” seat. VA-8 Dems have a VERY strong machine.

    An incumbent under 50%……

    DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

  • http://moelane.com/ Moe Lane

I let myself declare DOOM in the Hoffman race, and while I was half-right I was half-wrong, too.

If Moran polls like this in September, it’s DOOM.

  • FJG

However, my roommate and I live in VA-08. While I really don’t like Moran, my roommate wants to see him defeated with a passion. She even thought about running against him herself. And my neighbor isn’t too far behind her in their disgust for the man.

So Moe, I may not be able to promise you a pony but I can promise you 3 women in Moran’s district who are willing to campaign and vote against Moran on your, and our own, behalf.

  • Richard Mullins

So we need to take every district serious, even if there might be a chance of losing. Getting rid of Jim Moran would be great, but he’s only one of those I’d love to see gone. The less speckle face congressmen around the better.

  • jwl1975

Didn’t he already demonstrate that he wasn’t a very good candidate last time? He put out a mailer with false claims about his primary challenger in 2008 and then, when called on it, blamed his teenage campaign manager.

I remember excitedly sitting in an ACRC meeting before the 2008 primary waiting to hear Ellmore speak for the first time. My excitement didn’t last long. I was thoroughly unimpressed. I wasn’t particularly impressed with the other Republican candidate either.

I am impressed with Matthew Berry though. I do look forward to hearing more from Patrick Murray. I agree that Socci, in part because he is a professional lobbyist, isn’t really a serious candidate.

  • andybates

“Matthew lives in Arlington with his partner Josh and two dogs.”

I’d love to beat Moran, but not with this type.

  • http://moelane.com/ Moe Lane

Personally, I’d rather see a gay fiscal conservative in that seat than an anti-Semitic, corrupt suckweasel, but I guess that you have different priorities.

:holding up hand: You will not improve your position here with any response. Fair warning.

  • andybates

Where we should pour our resources in the House to dislodge Pelosi and crew. Replacing a bad Democrat with a bad Republican is a waste of resources. We rid ourselves of Foley, why would we invited another one in our midst.

  • mmx_flex

You are right … nobody is safe in 2010.

Sir Isaac Newton famously said: ?What goes up must come down.? While he was referring to an apple falling from a tree, the same principle should apply to the political fortune of his namesake Isaac Newton ?Ike? Skelton IV in 2010.

At the end of the day I’d welcome Lucifer to get rid of Moran. Then we’ve got two years to work out a primary challenge for him.

Moe is right. If this guy is the swing vote to replace Miss Nancy with a Republican at Speaker of the House I’m not just good with him, I’m great.

  • mbecker908

If you’d like your stuff read post it as a diary at Redstate. Don’t wander in here and use RS as a tool to bump your traffic.

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

How does being gay make him a bad Republican?

  • muffin

    Am I missing something here?

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

… if he’s off on marriage then that’s one bad issue, but being gay does not make him anti-marriage.

But I’m not aware of homosexuality being related to taxes, spending, war on terror, and other issues.

  • mmx_flex

The Skelton article is now posted as a diary. Thanks for the advice.

  • muffin

show me a candidate’s stance on the issues with a voting record to back it up, and if it agrees with my principles, I’ll vote for him/her.

  • andybates

Then, yeah, I guess we have no choice. But surely there is someone in this district who is “fiscally conservative” and not a homosexual? As far as finding another candidate, if this is the best we can come up with, I am going to put my financial support in alot of other races, where our candidate doesn’t live with his partner Josh (unless her name is Janet) and their 2 dogs. Better than Moran embarass his party (if that is possible) than invite an embarassment into ours.

  • http://slcliberty.blogivists.com randy streu

it is becoming evident that he worries about “teh ghey” rubbing off on him, or else a conspiracy of homosexuals to take over the WHOLE WIDE WORLD via the Republican Party.

  • http://moelane.com/ Moe Lane

    Next post.

  • Scope

and making the case once again that Bush lied- there were no WMD’s.

  • http://slcliberty.blogivists.com randy streu

maybe he got caught up in the massive void created by the lack of anything factual in any of his posts…?

  • andybates

I did say there were no WMDs, I did say Bush/Cheney’s policies cost us about 20 Senate Seats and 50+ House Seats. But, otherwise, it was executed perfectly.

  • andybates

Simply said if we can’t come up with a better candidate that someone who proudly takes it up the pooper from his “partner Josh” (I guess it coudl be slightly worse, he could live just with his 2 partner dogs?), we have serious trouble with candidate recruitment in that district and any other district. Hey, maybe we can come up with a great candidate who loves higher taxes, but is great on “national defense”!

  • http://slcliberty.blogivists.com randy streu

but most of us aren’t that stupid, andybates.

Yes, part of the ability to READ is to be able to understand implications.

I don’t think anyone’s in the mood to play rhetorical games with you… you clearly aren’t as clever as you seem to believe.

  • andybates

So, let me be clear, I don’t believe we should be supporting any candidate very likely to be co-sponsoring legislation with Barney Frank. As said, surely there is a better candidate in that district or ANY district that this homo with his partner Josh.

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

What legislation is he going to cosponsor with Barney Frank?

Or are you just prejudging his politics based on his having a ‘partner?’

  • http://moelane.com/ Moe Lane

    Ciao.

  • http://slcliberty.blogivists.com randy streu

    You imply. I infer.

There were buried Mustard Gas Shell stores found… but that would just mean you would go back to the name-game of saying you meant “Nuke material” or whatever….. you are dismissed…. Likewise, with all the Sadam loyalists and Republican guard killed, the liklihood of folks remaining (and any documents they were busy destroying upon the War onset) was slim — in otherwords idiot…. some things may still exist buried (or sent off somewhere) that those “in the know” of those secrets cannot reveal (as they are dead) and we aren’t going to go through the entire country one grain of sand at a time looking, but will certainly investigate any lead that comes up to potential spots.

  • paint_it_red

The Democrats currently hold 6 of the 11 House seats in VA. Nye and Perrelo are probably the top tier targets. Not too far behind them are Boucher and Connolly. Moran is from a very liberal area that is inundated with Washington Post propaganda and other liberal influences. Granted, he has his share of scandal and problems, but if he is vulnerable, the Democrats are in very serious trouble.

  • http://slcliberty.blogivists.com randy streu

good timing, too. He’d just passed from entertaining to annoying.

  • scarlos

to go 10-1 for Congressional seats in supposedly “Purple” Virginia?

after all, gotta dismiss the Trolls/Mobies and some casual Readers/participants that would also otherwise repeat their BS!

    Take care friends…. God Bless….

PS: may as well toss out the stored EIT’s are NOT torture dismissal while we’re at it ;-) lol.

Move along ;-) … nothing to see here…. lol….. The Ghostbusters have turned the afore-Troll/Moby SLIME into a Ghost! :)

Matthew warrants serious consideration. I suppose “Mr.Bates” overlooked Matthew’s considerable security credentials, as well. More importantly, Matthew is addressing issues that are of local importance, specifically transportation. Anyone that lives in northern Virginia knows what a nightmare traffic is here. He has offered detailed solutions to a couple of the specific issues of import to the district. Maybe more importantly, he has a plan and he is executing it. I live in Prince William County with my partner and we have both committed funds to Matthew’s campaign. We will also be committing time. Matthew is extremely accessible..he even had lunch with me, a stranger,..and I’m not one of his constituents. Read his website. Make your own decision. He does not waffle on his positons re: fiscal responsibility, energy, foreign policy, healthcare, or national security. This district is looking for a reason NOT to vote for Moran.

  • http://fairfaxgardener.blogspot.com ddstrain

Best (realistic) case is Virginia House delegation being 9 GOP – 2 Dem. We just need to knock of 3 freshman Dems Perriello (VA-5), Nye (VA-2) and Connolly (VA-11) and pick off Boucher (VA-9). All four are very precarious.
