Rep. Bill Delahunt (D, MA): why did you put Amy Bishop back on the street?

Amy Bishop, of course, is the woman who murdered those people down at the University of Alabama… and, apparently, she was ‘taken into custody’ for the murder of her brother in 1986.  And that’s where it gets interesting.

Amy Bishop was released before she was booked, however, and she was never charged in the incident. All police records of the case have since gone missing, with the exception of an entry in the police log noting an accidental shooting, Frazier said.

Braintree officers who remember the 1986 shooting said that former police Chief John Polio dismissed detectives from the case and ordered the department to release Amy Bishop after a telephone conversation with former district attorney William Delahunt.

Polio was not forthcoming about why then-DA Delahunt decided not to press charges, or why the documents in the case are apparently not available. Given the circumstances, perhaps the Congressman from MA-10 would like to fill in the blanks, as it were? Assuming that he’s done deciding whether he’s going to go through the process, of course.

PS:Oh, this just gets murkier.

Braintree Police Chief Paul Frazier confirmed today at a news conference that Amy Bishop had fatally shot her brother in 1986. But Frazier offered a different account of the shooting, saying Bishop had shot her brother during an argument and was being booked by police when the police chief at the time ordered the booking process stopped and Bishop released to her mother.

“I don’t want to use the word ‘coverup’ … but this does not look good,” he said.

No. No, it does not.

where a student of hers let him know that she was a socialist but though she didn’t talk about that until after class….I don’t guess that will be part of the media narrative because WE know it will be the guns.

“UPDATE: From Ratemyprofessors.com: ?This class was great. Bishop makes the class interesting by talking about her research and her friends research. That speaker she had for class was hard to understand but smart. She expects alot and you need to come to every class and study. She is hot but she tries to hide it.And she is a socalist but she only talks about it after class.?”

CQ Politics is saying he basically implied today he is likely to retire

Malone best candidate? he has a lot ethical problems

I see State Rep Jeff Perry already? any thoughts on him?

  • pirate55

Correct me if I’m wrong any attorneys out there, but I believe a homicide case can be reopened any time for cause.

Perry may be the most authentic conservative in the Redstate mold. He is young and unblemished. But his base is small. He is just a state rep. Malone has the biggest name and machine. He had some overblown issues, but he does have the taint of a retread. Hedlund is more of a Ron Paul Repubican, but he is a State Senator with lots of charisma. Interesting race. Three completely different canididates, all viable.

In the Dem corner… A Kennedy!. Seriously, the last hope of Camelot is waiting in the wings. They may season him until Scott Brown/GOP tide has faded and run JKIII, or carrot top, in the future during a Dem tide.

I don’t think there’s a statute on accessory after the fact to a homicide either and the Congresscritter might well qualify for that one.

    A few thoughts:
Great guy. Hellacious, relentless campaigner. He first got elected in 2002, jettisoning an entrenched lib Dem by simply outworking her(a la Scott Brown). Very good with constituent services. Was a huge, HUGE factor in Brown’s election by getting his district, and much of Cape Cod, to go 65%+ for Brown.
Comes of as a bit wonky, nerdy or bookish, but has a boyish charm that overcomes that. He’s got real-world experience: former cop and liquor store owner. He’s also a lawyer, but we don’t hold that against him.
Philosophically, he’s a solid Reagan conservative. He outlines his political outlook in his recent book My GOP.
I’m biased, but he’d be a much better candidate than Joe Malone. Malone is a nice guy, but he’s a retread–with skeletons from his mid-1990s tenure as MA state treasurer. Perry is emblematic of the new blood that a) we need and b)can win.

….that MA has begun to close the book on the Kennedys.

I hope he stays in the race, and is soundly defeated. And, it appears that Jeff Perry is the one candidate who can beat the incumbent Congressman. Perry has been a smart, hard working, common sense Legislator who has a strong organization, and is capable of raising
the funds needed for an aggressive campaign. In addition, Perry approaches this challenge armed with a solid understanding of the issues and with solid proposals for correcting the mess Delahunt and his cronies have created. If your viewers haven’t done so, I suggest
they read Perry’s book, “My GOP”; it spells out his political philosophy and policies very clearly.

I think his primary opponents, all good people, do not share his
depth of experience or understanding of the challenges facing this nation.

We must change the Congress if we are to “take back the country”…a phrase I dislike, but it is, unfortunately, appropriate.
