Yeah, Democrats: you know that $13 million war chest of Bayh’s?

The one he’s not going to be needing anymore?

Somehow I suspect that not much of it is going to find its way to the DSCC.

“That would be one more than Congress has created in the last six months.” Wow, thanks! That’s going to be great for our campaign ads this fall, Senator. We can pretty much use that one everywhere.

that the timing of his retirement announcement was anything other than a big middle finger to the Democrats in DC?

He must hold a lot of contempt for the Democrats. Good for him.

I seem to remember that a few years ago our infinitely wise political leaders passes some balderdash law that said you got retain your war chest if you retired. Anyone recall that?

Bayh would have spent it on a reelection bid and he wanted to keep it for a future presidential run. I address this in my diary:

Normally, Bayh would have coasted to reelection, but not this year. Also, 13 million is not an easy sum of money to collect. Especially with no more “stimulus packages”, or should I say “pork projects where the recipients will turn around and fund millions into your reelection campaign $2,400 at a time (the current max campaign contribution)”.

but isn’t Lieberman a VP re-tread? I mean they don’t go at it twice with the same guy unless it’s the VP on the Presidential ticket that won. Lieberman was Gore’s pick and is a re-tread. I don’t think they want to have him again.
