Gasoline on the fire of Erick’s CNN gig.

A group's got to know its limitations.

You may have noticed that a lot of the people being most virulent about Erick’s CNN gig are folks who don’t have, won’t have, and probably can’t have CNN gigs, or anything like that (the highest that they aspire to is to get on Maddow once) and it’s not unreasonable to assume that this probably bugs them. They’re in the Left-sphere, remember?  Beyond a certain point, there’s no advancement; the activist Left have all the tame blogs that they need, thanks, and they’d prefer to develop the ones that they have than let new ones be created.

But if you’re in that position you don’t want to think about it, I suppose.  I certainly wouldn’t, if I was in their shoes*.  So they’ve told themselves that it’s because they’re too edgy for the MSM.  Too in-your-face.  It’s the price that they pay for keeping it real with their rough language and uncompromising style.  So it’s OK, really; they can’t be blamed for being too hardcore for television.  So when Erick gets a CNN gig, after calling David Souter a goat-f*cking child molester?  Well, they can start screaming about the situation, or they can dispassionately admit to themselves that the real reason why they’re not on TV is because they suck.

You tell me which is a more attractive option to these people.

PS: Jim Geraghty was thinking along the same lines.  Which you’d already know, if only you subscribed to his Morning Jolt

*Why don’t I have a CNN gig?  Because, by CNN’s standards, I suck.  This doesn’t particularly bother me, as you may have guessed.

that seperates the conservaties from the nutroots. We are proud of Erick’s success and wish him the best in this endevor. Not petty and jealous whiny little brats (wanted to use a different word, but wanted to be mindful of the rules).

I felt bad about that but by the time I read it, it was already old news and it would have felt like an afterthought. I’m not as regular a commenter let alone a regular diarist, so it doesn’t affect me one whit for myself. I am happy for Erick. He has worked hard advancing conservative thought and deserves this.

For the envious, it would be more prudent if you looked at Mr. Erickson’s accomplishments to see how you might improve yourself and your chances at such a position. Competition is a healthy endeavor because it pushes us to excellence in all things, both personal and business.

underneath all the whining and “why not mes” is fear, considering that CNN is considered a leftist bastion of media bias. If CNN is hiring Erickson as a contributor, does that mean the left’s stranglehold on the media is slipping?

Somehow, I doubt if it has loosened that much but lefties are always overwrought about something.

  • itdiehard

I was wondering if CNN was going to be enlightened or If CNN was going to try to enlighten Eric. Good luck CNN..

Although CNN or even Fox would be a poor fit for you and your brand of snark. I could see you alongside Treacher at the Trawler though…..It is a paying gig, after all. And they wouldn’t have to pay for you to move, either.

What better way to influence and change the hearts and minds of the so-called independents and moderates, and other ill-educated types, than to appear on a network like CNN?

  • majorkong

CNN wants to actually be relevant again. With its unrelenting viewership loss, they may realize that hiring Erick is a very good first step in regaining credibility. I do not expect Erick to “go native” as I consider him to be well and truly grounded in what he believes.

I won’t link, but it was fun to read the posting on Erick! The comments could fill an afternoon with laughter. Only one thing bothers me, they never tried to debunk anything they quoted from him.

I was really looking forward to them trying to explain why Souter isn’t “a goat-f*cking child molester”!

CNN made a good choice to add Erickson to the ranks of the Republicans, moderates and Democrats at CNN. I say Republicans and Democrats, because some of the talking heads on CNN, and other networks for that matter, are party hacks. Finally some balance with a conservative. Carville and Begala are obnoxious Dem hacks and the right leaning CNN talking heads do not tread far from the Republican party line. Carville/Begala seem to read the D talking point word for word during every interview and the same can be said of the Rs on CNN. Erickson is a breath of fresh air, because he does not follow the traditional Republican talking points. In the tradition of Robert Novak, Erickson is a conservative first and a Republican second. Great choice. I wish other networks would follow suit and hire some solid conservatives, and liberals for that matter, and stay away from the boring party hacks that populate cable news these days.

but only if they let him. My concern is that they will tamp him down and keep him from actually speaking what is true to stay in good standing with the lefties who watch them. I won’t be seeing him because I don’t ever watch them, but kudos on the new gig. Hopefully it will give us conservatives another voice away from Fox (since they are just hacks…?)

Just think! After Erick ticks off enough higher ups in CNN, he can jump to Fox for MILLIONS! BWHAHAHAHAHAHAA!

  • NotSoBlueStater

He goes a little too red meat for my tastes. I prefer the styles of the other editors. Nothing personal.

That said, I like Erick on TV — a lot. He drops a bit of that edge (at least in the stuff I’ve seen, which isn’t a ton) and comes across as a strong advocate for the conservative/Republican perspective.

So Go Erick, and if he makes idiots’ heads explode at the same time, that’s just a bonus.

Some media moguls have been raiding the liquor cabinet again!

  • illinois

Bought and paid for. But, plenty of conservative blogs I like better anyway like Gateway Pundit!

Nutty Kucinich at least got a plane ride—-sure hope Erick was savvy enough to get a plane ride too.

  • Aaron Gardner

You are a self defeating clown or a troll.

  • janis

Erick has done yeoman’s work over the past 6 or 7 years on behalf of all of us. And now he is going to make a decent living wage to help feed and house his family. That’s a sellout in your eyes?

I’m as conservative as they come and I’m damned proud that he landed this gig. He’s taking it to the other side with both barrels. You think he’d make a bigger impact at Fox when they are loaded with conservative pundits already? Get your head out of your hind quarters. Oh, wait, you’re from Illinois– I’ve heard lots of folks there prefer to keep their heads in the dark.

  • Jack_Savage

How are things going up there in Illinois? Working hard on the GOP message are you? You are really doing well it appears – no kid coming home from school was beaten to death today. Good job.

Give us an idea of how you are putting yourself out on the line for the cause, buddy. I am real interested in hearing.

Caught powers in Red Dawn for the upteenth time a couple of days ago, and all I could think of was that da*n cat.

  • Lloyd Davis

Unfortunately not everyone reads RedState or watches Fox News. Now they are going to have a real conservative going into the enemy’s turf and telling it like it is.

    This could be fun.

It’s rather funny, actually: I wasn’t a huge fan of Erick’s until I saw him on Hannity. I honestly think that he’s one of the most truly thoughtful, well-organized, and intelligent conservatives on TV today.

Either that, or his accent makes me nostalgic for Georgia, it could go either way :)

  • RedBeard

Those are the only two possibilities here.

If you are the latter, you go right ahead preaching to the choir and accomplishing nothing. Erick and other real conservatives will do the heavy lifting for you, going out into the world to spread the word,
