Duelling Quotes of the Day, Israel edition.

Jim Geraghty:

The headline in Haaretz is “Netanyahu’s brother-in-law: Obama is an anti-Semite” but the story actually quotes him as saying Obama is “anti-Israel.” I don’t think the terms are quite the same, although the middle portion of that venn diagram is pretty big.

R.S. McCain:

This is why the “peace process” can never lead to peace: The PLA, Fatah and Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades don’t want peace, they want dead Jews.

I would very much like not to have to jog the administration’s elbow on this issue, but they’re making a mistake both foreign and domestic with regard to our new Israeli policy.  The ‘foreign’ part is covered above: for ‘domestic,’ see Walter Russell Mead.

    Zechariah 2
1I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.

2Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.

3And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,

4And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:

5For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

6Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the LORD.

7Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.

8For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.

9For, behold, I will shake mine hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants: and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me.

10Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD.

11And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee.

12And the LORD shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.

13Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.

I guess I’m just not sophisticated enough to understand how you can have negotiations when you know that only one side of the discussion will ever actually abide by the terms of the agreement.

Got that? It ultimately makes NO difference (to Israel) What we , or anybody else on Earth , think or do or say about Israel ! They are the apple of God’s eye ! He said He will ” Bless those who bless her and curse those who curse Her” . In the end , our support of Israel is of far greater benefit to us than it is to them. I believe that is why we are blessed as apeople and cursed as a govt. right now !

The international left have moved more and more towards anti-semitism and in solidarity with Jihad groups. It is a little worse in Europe but not much.

Obama belonged to a church who’s pastor just gave Louis Farrakhan an award. It is foolish not to think that he is filled with this left wing neo antisemitism.

  • Tbone

The Democrat Party has been taken over by the Ultra-Left that marches in lockstep with the European Left that hates Israel and hates Jews.

Obama is the spawn of this movement. As such, this Administration’s actions against Israel will continue.

That a community agitator who sat in the rev.wright’s (who is so wrong) presence for about 20ish years would have any sort of bias against the state of Israel or it’s inhabitants or those of the same or similar religious affiliation…

Impeachment is starting to sound peachy regarding the preachy O…

right wing jew I can say this without getting in trouble. Liberal Jews are the most backstabbing hypocritical, morally bankrupt pieces of @#$% in the world. Although anyone in my family who is Jewish is Republican, I have grown up around this ultra socialists and they make me sick. They care more about socialism and killing babies then vindicating the conservatives by supporting their stand for Israel.

However, there is the patented “Becker Scale” that assigns degrees of idiocy to particular behaviors and I think “Jews voting for Democrats” fall between watching Chris Matthews and drinking Colt 45 with breakfast.

Do you realize that anti-semitism is the hatred of Jews just because they are Jews? Do you realize that America’s unwavering support for the political entity of Israel since 1948 is the root cause for the rise in Islamic extremism? My field of study is International Relations/Middle East and I’m not here to be a jerk to everyone reading this, but before you make sweeping accusations of this and that, please take the time to read a little bit of ME History and the current situation might make a little more sense. I have an Independent political affiliation and have no problem with the existence of the State of Israel, but the current conflicts are because they want their cake and eat it to by not only controlling their territory, but taking the Palestinians as well.

  • http://impudent.blognation.us/blog kyle8

The Palestinian Arabs have had opportunity after opportunity to have their own political land, and to live in peace, and even be paid reparations. They blew each and every chance because killing Jews is much more important to them than peace, prosperity, or civilization.

Furthermore, if every Jew in the middle east migrated to Antarctica tomorrow, the radical Moslem’s would still hate all non Moslem’s, (and every moslem that doesn’t think exactly the same way they do. ) And they would still try to undermine every non-radical regime.

Meanwhile Egypt and Jordan have lived in peace with Israel for over thirty years now. So it is stupid to suppose that the presences of Israel is some sort of insurmountable problem.

  • JSobieski

Whether its the Coptic Christians in Egypt, the Chaldeans in Iraq, etc. there are numerous examples of religious cleansing by Muslims in the Arab world that far pre-date 1948.

  • mschmitt

The Jihadis only strap bombs to their children and send them out to kill Jews because the Jews lie about them strapping bombs to their children and sending them out to kill Jews. And because the Jews are alive.

So, plainly, it’s all the Jews fault. And America. And there’s nothing anti-semitic at all about that — really. I learned it from a guy who studies ME History.

  • janis

And which university do you study these at, pray tell? And whether you meant to be a jerk or not, you succeeded admirably in being just that very thing. Do tell us idiots here why it was that every Arab country that bordered Israel lined up to attack that country as soon as she was declared to be a country, hmmm? Was it because of our unwavering support of Israel since 1948? Why no, I don’t think so, given that it WAS 1948 when that happened.

I’d ask for a refund if I were you. Plainly they have left some important details out of your textbooks.
