1Q 2010: Crist raises 1.1 million to Rubio’s 3.6.

It’s not your time, Governor.

Via Hot Air: Allahpundit independently makes the same suggestion…

If I were Crist, here’s what I’d do. First, I’d dial up Jeb Bush and ask him whether there’s any chance whatsoever that he’ll endorse me. If he says no (which seems likely), either because he’s backing Rubio or staying out of the race, then I’d dial up Rubio and offer him a deal. In return for me dropping out right now, endorsing him, and helping him fundraise, I’d ask for a commitment that he’ll help me beat Bill Nelson in 2012. That’s really the only way at this point that Crist can regain his standing among the base, whom he’ll need to have onboard for any shot at the Senate.

…that I did last month, only I didn’t bother with suggesting that Crist give Jeb an opportunity to bail him out.  It’s not too late, Governor: you still have something to trade.  We don’t have to let this situation deteriorate further.

But the clock’s ticking.

No, no, no… Not even in 2012. I’d vote for Bill Nelson again in 2012. Charlie Crist needs to retire.

    exceeds their political judgment.

Or, actuarially speaking, there is some chance that Rubio could drop dead but $1.1mil seems to be a bad bet on that.

You rather I voted for the corrupt Katherine Harris?

…with a minimum of hurt feelings all around; and the FL GOP free to concentrate early on at least half a dozen potential pickups in the House.

I think this energizes real conservatives to run, and fundraise. This is not the bloodying of an incumbent (not really) and all the self-immolation of one’s party that might come with it. This is not the repudiation of an ersatz standard bearer. This is a healthy fist fight over real ideas and two really different candidates.

Crist is out. He should just throw in the towel now. If Rubio and conservatives make any kind of deal that results in a Crist candidacy in 2012 will IMO taint Rubio and FL conservatives. Crist is exactly the kind of RINO we don’t want anywhere near the Senate. Someone ought to ask him just why it is he wants to be a Senator or in politics generally. It’s clear he has NO principles.

Let me say that as a Florida resident, *I* would be okay with this arrangement too.

We don’t know what the political landscape will be like in 2012, and could probably use Charlie and his money then. FL is still a purple state with a slight Red tint. This year is Marco’s year. I do think Crist would do very well against Nelson in 2 years.

to forestall or mitigate his accelerating irrelevance, he really doesn’t get it.

to help the FLGOP now, not after he and his handpicked cronies (Jim Greer) have looted the coffers. The real question is, what motivation would Rubio have to agree? Look at the criticism Palin’s drawing for backing His Maverickness — Rubio shouldn’t touch any deal proffered by Charlie “tans are supposed to be orange” Crist.

No, Rubio should look forward to hammering Crist as a spineless RINO for four more months, then Meeks as another leftist vote for Obama’s latest outrage of the week, for the following three. With foils like those, he’s gonna look like the second coming by November, just in comparison.

to be spread on Charlie Crist, who is toast.

The question is “Is he trustworthy of a deal?” Rudy doesn’t think so.

Crist, Greer, Thrasher, the state GOP …… This fish is stinking from the head down. Mr. Rubio don’t share space with this bunch because all you will get is the stink. Have a cup of tea ………

    From Other Peoples Money:

Garfield: “Settle? I only settle when I’m in trouble.”
Sullivan: “Or when it makes sense.”
Garfield: “It only makes sense when I’m in trouble.”

There’s no need to cut a deal with Crist. While it would be nice to avoid months of getting hit by Crist, it’s not necessary. Rubio has come from behind to take a sizable, albeit not insurmountable lead over Crist. The mood of the country and the current state of Florida give us no reason to think that the Democrats can make this a race. Defeating Crist straight up would effectively end his political career and put us in a position to nominate another small government Republican in two years time.

If it had the look of a bad year for Republicans, if the Democrats had a strong candidate, or if the primary were closer, a deal would be worth of consideration. Right now, though, we stand a good chance of going two-for-two. Why take the sister kisser?

No way would I ever vote for Charlie Suntan for any office. Once burned, twice shy. We will find a viable conservative candidate after the 2010 elections to run against Bill Nelson in 2012.

  • joecollins

I want Crist to go away. Buh bye, good riddance, farewell, don’t let the door hit your butt on the way out. Ride off into the sunset, hit the road Jack . . .

  • GregInFla

I see (then) one-term Congressman Col. Allen West running for US Senate in 2012. Nelson will be toast. Rubio and West will be quite a pair of conservatives.

would be to safe a little normal strife now, with a candidate who has been steadily dropping for nearly five months now, and who if he continues at his current rate will simply disappear of his own accord, collapsing into the gravity of his own weight like a neutron star – except that Crist won’t have enough gravity left to suck anything else in with him.

Crist jumped the shark with his embrace of Obama. He’s like an extra anus – who needs one?
