Oh, Rod Blagojevich: why could you not have used your powers for *good*?

(Via Instapundit) John Kass has a thoroughly entertaining article up on the way that former Governor Blagojevich is doing his level best to drag President Obama into the equally thoroughly entertaining drama that is former Governor Blagojevich’s corruption trial.  To summarize: the government is using Tony Rezko to go after Blagojevich; Blagojevich needs to taint Rezko’s testimony; so Blagojevich wants Obama to testify about Rezko.  Obama probably doesn’t want to testify about Rezko.  Particularly about things involving offers for Obama’s former Senate seat, which is why many details about the Obama subpoena were redacted… and promptly reconstructed (via Patterico).

Summing up, Kass cuts to the chase to write:

Though Thursday’s new information is quite fascinating, remember that it comes from the same defense team that has turned the case into a circus from day one.

And demanding the president take the stand in a corruption trial is all three rings, and the dozens of tiny little clowns pouring out of the diminutive car, and the bearded lady. Oh, and let’s not forget the dog-faced boy.

(murmuring) That was not a very nice thing to say about the Chief of Staff.

    Thanks to Cheney, Scooter and the left’s demand they be forced to testify Rahm will have to step up. Obama is a sitting president and won’t be force to testify.

    The worry he’ll have is one of perjury. We all know that Chicago is corrupt. We all know that the way political positions are doled out is also corrupt. All you have to do to confirm this is follow how Obama got his state senate seat.

    Blago can take all the time he wants outlining the “Chicago Way” and then sit back and say, “At some point if a process is allowed to go on and on and on for generations it becomes, by default, legal.”

    Instapundit puts an interesting twist on the Blago strategy with this cryptic phase “…or make it go away”. I am imaging the conversation between Blago and Obama. “Sure is a nice presidency you have there. Shame if something should happen to it.”

    of Rezko, who specifically requested he have an immediate sentencing. Hasn’t happened. So what’s going on and where is Rezko?

    And where’s the tomatoes and onions?
    And maybe some bacon. Maybe: there are people – honest, decent people – who argue that the bacon should stay on the cheese fries.

    Obama and Blago had a conversation, and Obama was questioned by the FBI about that and other contacts with the Governor. Rezko is a main prosecution witness, and he was closely associated with Obama, even his next door neighbor who bought a strip of land from him to make his mortgage manageable.

    If I’m the defense attorney with these facts, I would choose this hill to die upon. The judge cannot deny it is possible Obama can provide exculpatory testimony or information which might impeach Rezko’s.

    Of course, I can’t stop thinking that if Obama is called, he takes the Fifth.

    Where In The World Is Rezko?

    I have been wondering since Dec 2008 myself. I read somewhere that he was shuttled across the street to another jail. Someone else questioned why they (Fitzpatrick) leapt on Blago so fast, before he actually did even more illegal activity.

    Presumably to prevent more Obama material coming out.

    I would like to see Regnery come up with a few million for a tell all book with the condition it is all about Obama. What else has he got left (besides a cabinet or czar position in the WH)?

    Also; where is the mistress? Was it Vera?
