This is the way WI protests end.

This is the way WI protests end.
This is the way WI protests end.
This is the way WI protests end.

(Via Instapundit) Not with a bang, but with a bunch of self-indulgent whining as the adults in the room get on with the state of Wisconsin’s business.

Hmm. Doesn’t really scan.

PS: The entire Wisconsin protest thing would have been a lot more impressive in the old days, before we saw what groups like the Tea Party could do AND SUSTAIN.

…despite the multiple fails by the left to date, they still have a chance to reverse the tide and win the battle if they succeed with recalling the six targeted elected Republican officials. So we can’t get overconfident at this juncture.

Of course, if they lose these elections, they’re out of ammo (until they can reload and try somewhere else, such as Ohio).

So let’s not count our chickens yet. That said, we’re certainly in an enviable position at this point.

    1) Scott and the Rep. legislators got elected in the most progressive state
    2) they proposed an agenda, formed bills, and voted law
    3) Dems. proved both their cowardice and lack of professional responsibility by running away at the time to vote
    4) the faux judge set up to run against an incumbent to the WI Sup. Ct. lost by a significant amount and could not prolong a recount
    5) the WI Sup. Ct. overturned a specious reading of the state’s sunshine laws by a lower court
    6) although claiming to be bringing “Wisconsin tactics” to NJ, yesterday at Trenton, the crowd was barely in the 100s to start, and although bolstered later by greater numbers, the hyperbole and excess of union speakers created an overall negative event instead of a great validation of public union rights in NJ

If Romeny and Bachmann and whoever gets to run for the Reps. can keep up the pressure against the left, even NJ, with a 3-1 Dem. registration, is beginning to see uncontrolled spending, budget gimmicks, and just let it ride to the next administration isn’t going to happen with Christie and the way the ec. is. Even Dems. get it.

The only who doesn’t get it is littel o, but he will get out in 2012.

    Just saw this on twitter.
And – I saw a report (linked via twitter) that shows that all 6 of the GOP recall targets have “protest” GOP candidates. This means the July elections will be primaries which will require the election itself to be put off until August.
    Good for the WI GOP!
I don’t know if the dem recall targets have any “protest” candidates.

That does not change the law. It has been enacted and upheld. They won’t have a chance to beat it now until at least 2015, and that’s only if they manage to be Walker in his 2014 re-election campaign AND seize control of both houses of the legislature. And even then, I suspect that by that time, after nearly 4 years under the new law, the political clout of the unions will have severely diminished with their declining revenues and membership. This makes it highly unlikely that they could mount a successful push for repeal.

All that said, of course we need to remain vigilant and defend the valiant efforts of these 6 Republican Senators to help their efforts to stave off recall, while we also work to defeat the 3 coward Democrat Senators who are also up for recall.

From a strictly legal viewpoint you may well be correct that a change in the language of the law or repeal would have to await the next governor. But that would be an empty victory for several reasons:

[Note: when I refer to recalls below, that is an abbreviation for recalls against the 6 Republicans.]

    1) A recall win here will be magnified nationally that the “people” reject “extremist” Republicans, affecting people’s attitudes in other battleground areas

    2) A recall win will embolden the Democrats for their prize scalp – a recall effort against Gov. Walker at the one-year mark Such an effort will paralyze WI politics and legislation for the next several months after the start of the recall process and create a firestorm of demonstrations and union actions that will dwarf anything to date.

    3) The WI legislators will view this as a shot across their bows for the upcoming elections and will tack accordingly, preventing any further progress on reforming the unions, and may even lead to new legislation that will neuter this bill.

    4) Worse of all, success in the WI recall will validate the tactics used in Wisconsin for direction actions elsewhere, which will bring perilously close – or perhaps even push us over – to mob rule and physical intimidation as political tools – or to put it more crudely, will usher in a brownshirt era of political discourse.

Best way to nip this in the bud is for voters to reject the recalls. Successful recalls could rapidly lead to an avalanche.
