The pre-penned outrage of the Coakley campaign.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 19th at 07:50 PM |
Important tactical tip for would-be accusers of election fraud: when you send out your press release, proof-read it first. It helps one avoid elementary errors, such as making it obvious that you had prepared your accusation before the polls even opened, let alone closed*. “Reports that the Coakley campaign is making reckless accusations regarding the integrity of today’s election is a reminder that they are | Read More »
Today is the day.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 19th at 08:50 AM |
The polls are open in Massachusetts, and the usual reports of heavy early turnout have begun. What men and women can do, we have done: it is now in the voters’ hands. All that’s left is to ensure that today’s is a clean fight and a fair fight. Scott Brown for Senate. Legal Insurrection will be live-blogging throughout the day. Calibration check on Brown/Coakley.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 18th at 02:00 PM |
You’re at the MLK Day Breakfast in Boston and the two candidates for Senate are talking. One candidate uses the opportunity to make a stump speech. The other candidate – who did not – later criticizes the first one as being ‘inappropriate.’ One candidate ‘received polite, seated applause’ but enjoyed a ‘tepid reception at a stronghold of Democratic politics.’ The other is ‘received warmly, shaking | Read More »
Marcia, Marcia, Marcia…
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 17th at 10:08 PM |
(Via @CalebHowe) What did you do in a previous lifetime to deserve this, AG Coakley? Drive a bus full of kittens and baby harp seals off a cliff? …then you know we have a lot of digging to do, but some work needs to be done and this president’s in the process of doing it and we need to get Marcia Coakley to help him | Read More »
Obama on Brown… and Lane on Obama.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 17th at 05:03 PM |
Obama, on Brown: “Forget the truck. Anybody can buy a truck.” Lane, on Obama: “But not everybody can fill a hall.” Exhibit A here, and Exhibit B below. Moe Lane Crossposted to RedState.

Pour yourself a glass of something nice before you read this: it deserves it. “Obama is radioactive in polls,” said one senior Dem operative who has seen the campaign’s internal numbers. “Every time they dropped his name in a poll, it was awful. So you just can’t take those kinds of chances.” We actually got the d*mned horse to sing. Moe Lane PS: Scott Brown | Read More »
Stu Rothenberg upgrades MA-SEN to ‘Toss-up.’
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 14th at 01:35 PM |
DOOM. Late Democratic efforts to demonize Republican Scott Brown, to make the race into a partisan battle and to use the Kennedy name to drive Democratic voters to the polls could still work. But the advertising clutter in the race works against them, and voters often tune out late messages, which can seem desperate. Reports that the Coakley campaign plans to counter this development by | Read More »
Meet Michael Meehan. Democrat.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 13th at 10:21 AM |
He’s currently on loan to the Coakley campaign from the DSCC: The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee also dispatched Michael Meehan, a media consultant with ties to Massachusetts, to assist the Coakley camp with messaging. And this is the guy that attacked a Weekly Standard reporter last night after Coakley’s lobbyist-driven fundraiser: You think that it’s the same guy? It looks like the same guy. BIG | Read More »
Coakley can’t even remember her position on *abortion* these days.

Bill Jacobson points out a minor detail with Big Pharma shill Martha Coakley trying to spin Scott Brown’s past support of permitting medical personnel to have a religious objection to the morning-after pill into being anti-rape victim: she’s on the record as supporting far more. first, Legal Insurrection: Here is the language in section 1302(a)(3) of the bill (at page 125) passed by the Senate | Read More »
I declare DOOM for Martha Coakley (D, MA-SEN).
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 12th at 08:00 PM |
I’ve been fighting the urge: it’s Massachusetts. But let’s review the evidence. The latest Rasmussen poll: 49/47 Coakley/Brown. That’s +2 Coakley for likely voters. Definite ones? +1 Brown. The total shift is +7 Brown in a week. Internal Democratic polling (via AoSHQ) is saying Coakley +5. Last week? Coakley +14. +9 shift to Brown, in other words. They’re not just paying union members to hold | Read More »
‘The People’s Seat.’
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 12th at 07:43 AM |
This was easily the most important thing said at yesterday’s Brown/Coakley debate. (Via American Glob; H/T The Other McCain; see also Nice Deb.) There’s a reason why Brown raised 1.3 million dollars in just over 24 hours (and over 1 million in 24 hours) yesterday; it’s because the Massachusetts Senatorial race reeks of entitlement. The major reason why Brown is able to be in a | Read More »
Gov Deval Patrick (D, MA) just gave the GOP three more House seats.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 8th at 11:59 PM |
And I’m blaming the Governor for this one because I find it inconceivable that he would have let his subordinates set policy in such a nakedly partisan fashion without him first signing off on it. Apparently the Democratic party just doesn’t care how many ‘moderate’ Democrats have to have their careers sacrificed to the leadership’s ambitions. I don’t know where we’ll use this development – | Read More »
Rasmussen: Coakley/Brown 50/41.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 5th at 09:23 AM |
Nine points. In Masssachusetts. And look here: Both candidates get better than 70% of the vote from members of their respective parties, but Brown leads 65% to 21% among voters not affiliated with either of the major parties. Rasmussen’s not pretending that this race isn’t a tough one for Brown, and neither will I: but I told a reporter yesterday that Coakley would have to | Read More »
Ah, former Governor Palin?
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 3rd at 04:00 PM |
A few days ago Sissy Willis asked a very interesting question: Will Sarah Palin endorse Scott Brown? I’ve been thinking about it a bit; and while I can see the arguments both pro and con, I think that it’s time that Sarah Palin did. You have to speculate to accumulate, after all. So let’s light this candle. Moe Lane PS: Scott Brown for US Senate. | Read More »
Martha Coakley’s (D Cand, SEN-MA) oddly obscure cash-on-hand numbers.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 2nd at 12:59 PM |
Interesting. Here’s the short version: Martha Coakley is reporting that she’s raised over 1 million dollars since November 20th, and 5.2 million overall. So, Scott Brown’s (who raised 700K in the same time period, and who has just over 1.2 million overall) in trouble, yes? No. At least, not from that. Coakley, who faced three opponents in the Democratic primary, started the special election campaign | Read More »
Pick yourselves up. MA special election next month.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | December 21st at 10:42 PM |
As Ace of Spades HQ reminds us. Scott Brown is running for the GOP nod, and Democratic nominee Martha Coakley is already tap-dancing like crazy over abortion, of all things: Coakley used her stark position on abortion rights to appeal to supporters for donations; in an e-mail, she declared her decision to make her position “a defining moment’’ in her campaign. In a statement to | Read More »
MA SEN: Coakley versus Brown.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | December 9th at 12:45 PM |
The primary results are in for the Massachusetts special election primary, and it’s Massachusetts AG Martha Coakley for the Democrats; State Senator Scott Brown for the Republicans. 10% turnout; special election on January 19th . Coakley, of course, is cookie-cutter: as Jim Geraghty put it, the Democratic side was “lefty vs. lefty vs. lefty vs. lefty.” Scott Brown’s a bit more interesting, given that he’s | Read More »
