RS Interview: Jeff Semon (R CAND, MA-05 PRI).
Massachusetts is… interesting, this year. Despite being a Democratic stronghold, the MA GOP is putting up a pretty good fight; the NRCC recently talked up three of its House possibilities. I was able to talk with one of them – Jeff Semon, in MA-05 – later on. Come, I will conceal nothing from you. This is Ed Markey’s district, and the Democrats are prepared to | Read More »
Democrats lack moral courage to deal with John Tierney (D, MA-06).
Roll Call probably should have expanded John Tierney’s money/campaign woes into its own post, but the details are still tantalizing: The Massachusetts Democrat has less money in the bank and has raised less money in the last three quarters than has GOP challenger Richard Tisei. The reason why Tierney is floundering, of course, is because the embattled Congressman has a bit of an in-law problem. | Read More »
John Tierney (D, MA-06): Illegal Gambling Crook, or Pathetic Dupe?
John Tierney wants people to know that none of it is his fault. With ‘it’ being a wide-ranging noun: It’s not Tierney’s fault that his wife is under house arrest for her role in an illegal gambling racket. It’s not Tierney’s fault that said gambling racket apparently features a non-trivial percentage of his in-laws. It’s not Tierney’s fault that one brother-in-law is in federal custody | Read More »
Elizabeth Warren’s ancestor traced back to Trail of Tears! …On the side holding the guns.
Yeah, when’s that primary in Massachusetts, again? Because the general election is going to be a trip: …the most stunning discovery about the life of O.C. Sarah Smith Crawford is that her husband, Ms. Warren’s great-great-great grandfather, was apparently a member of the Tennessee Militia who rounded up Cherokees from their family homes in the Southeastern United States and herded them into government-built stockades in | Read More »
Did Elizabeth Warren (D CAND, MA-SEN PRI) actually claim minority status for her own benefit, after all?
I hate to admit being wrong, of course, but I’m pretty much stuck here. You see, last week I RedHotted a post where in passing I more or less indicated that I didn’t think that it was particularly fair to ding MA senatorial candidate Elizabeth Warren for her claims of Native American ancestry. When I read the story, it seemed that she had merely repeated | Read More »
Elizabeth Warren (D CAND, MA-SEN PRI) declares Barack Obama unevolved.
No, really, that’s what she said. The exact statement was “I want to see the president evolve [on same-sex marriage] because I believe that is right; marriage equality is morally right…” – with the implication being that anybody who does not support same-sex marriage is not, ah, fully evolved. Funny thing about that.
Elizabeth Warren’s inaccurate Karl Rove whining.
So let me set the background, here. Crossroads GPS is a 501(c)(4) associated with American Crossroads (a 527 advocacy group which has Karl Rove advising it; this will be important later), and it put out this ad on Massachusetts Senate hopeful Elizabeth Warren (who is running, of course, against Republican Senator Scott Brown). Said ad helpfully points out that Warren was up to her eyeballs | Read More »
Does Elizabeth Warren *also* support spitting on our troops?
I ask this because back at the beginning of October Ms. Warren seemed to be very much in favor of the entire Occupy Wall Street ‘thing.’ As the Boston Globe noted: “All of the candidates expressed support for the controversial protesters who are part of the “Occupy Boston” movement downtown.” The question then becomes: does that support include the members of Occupy Boston who went | Read More »
Liz Warren: pig-ignorant about her own salary?
You know, I’m starting to understand why Liz Warren has all these weird opinions on how value is actually created: she’s just a creature of her environment. This one is a little involved, so bear with me. Thursday, Politico put out a story on the sacrificial lamb candidate for MA-SEN’s upcoming Democratic primary that noted that Warren’s rhetoric about government transparency didn’t extend to her | Read More »
Elizabeth Warren will raise taxes on the poor.
To set the scene: below is an annotated excerpt from the ‘independent’ video that is currently causing shortness of breath (and soon probably lightness of wallet) among the contingent of the Online Left who really and truly believe that their professional politician class is avoiding full-throated, Huey Long-style, Left-populist rants for no good reason. Well, Elizabeth Warren, new-minted sacrificial lamb Democratic candidate for MA-SEN, is | Read More »
Aw. John Tierney’s (D, MA-06) wife can’t go to a party!
Because of that pesky GPS bracelet on her calf. Those big meanies in Massachusetts, making her stay under the indignity of house arrest for one, itty-bitty conviction of “iding and abetting the filing of false tax returns by her brother, Robert Eremian, a fugitive from federal charges of racketeering, illegal gambling, money laundering and witness tampering.” I mean, she served a whole month of jail | Read More »
Another state legislature passes labor union reform.
Much like similar laws passed in states like Wisconsin and Ohio, the legislation will go after public sector union abuse of collective bargaining over health care. Let me refresh people about why that’s important: it’s important because the public perception of benefits packages has traditionally been that they are somehow fundamentally different than wages; this despite the fact that a person who used to have, | Read More »
Gloucester Times begs for elimination of MA-06.
(Via The Campaign Spot) It’s fascinating to see a newspaper make the argument that its own Congressional District be broken up in order to get its own Congressman out of Congress, but bless me if the Gloucester Times isn’t doing precisely that: It’s a long 19 months until the next election — and that’s no matter what shape the state’s redistricting takes. But if Tierney’s | Read More »
Meet Marty Lamb (R CAND, MA).
Marty is running for Congress, just as soon as he knows which district he’s in. That’s because of redistricting; and Marty has some very interesting information on redistricting… and how it applies to the City of Boston. Hint: it’s not good news for the entrenched Democratic leadership. Marty’s kept his old site here; it’ll be updated in the future to reflect the current election cycle. | Read More »
John Tierney’s (D, MA-06) wife to plead guilty to tax fraud.
It’s bad enough when Democratic politicians commit tax fraud on their own: now they’re having it show up among family members. What is this, contagious or something? Maybe we should make them start wearing face masks. Or biohazard suits. The executive summary of this story is that Tierney’s wife is going to plead guilty to “four counts of aiding and abetting the filing of false | Read More »
Meet Sean Bielat (R CAND, MA-04).
Sean is running against Barney Frank, and any other year that might be a daunting prospect. This being 2010, and it’s sufficiently worrisome to Frank that he’s bringing in Bill Clinton to campaign for him. We talked to Sean about this, and other aspects of the race: Sean’s website is here. Keep an eye on this race; it’s got the right combination of a serious | Read More »
Democratic 2012 Massachusetts strategy: Kennedy.
Kennedy Kennedy Kennedy. They’re trying to recruit Victoria Kennedy (Ted Kennedy’s widow) for the seat for 2012. They actually tried to get her to run in 2010, but she refused – and she’s supposedly refusing now, but apparently the possible challengers to Scott Brown have already been collectively weighed by the state party, and found wanting. So there seems to be no better options for | Read More »
Bill Delahunt (D, MA): stiffing Democratic party?
Half of his war chest is gone: U.S. Rep. William Delahunt blew nearly $560,000 in campaign cash last year – much of it on lavish meals and a family-friendly payroll that includes his ex-wife, son-in-law and daughter – stoking speculation the Quincy Democrat is emptying his war chest and won’t seek re-election. Nickolai Bobrov, who is married to Delahunt’s daughter Kara, has raked in $47,732 | Read More »
NYT covers for Bill Delahunt; Boston Herald… won’t.
First, the NYT (via AoSHQ). While discussing the latest insanity* coming from Amy Bishop (a ‘herpes bomb,’ apparently), the Times manages to discuss Bishop’s shooting of her brother without: Mentioning just what political circles the Bishops were active in; Mentioning just who the prosecutor was that dropped the charges; and Mentioning just where that prosecutor is now. The answers are, of course: Democratic political circles; | Read More »
Rep. Bill Delahunt (D, MA): why did you put Amy Bishop back on the street?
Amy Bishop, of course, is the woman who murdered those people down at the University of Alabama… and, apparently, she was ‘taken into custody’ for the murder of her brother in 1986. And that’s where it gets interesting. Amy Bishop was released before she was booked, however, and she was never charged in the incident. All police records of the case have since gone missing, | Read More »
