Whom the Gods would destroy, they first send Joe Biden: David Paterson edition.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | June 4th at 08:45 AM |
Vice President Joe Biden is the sort of person who must be taken everywhere twice: the second time, to apologize*. Gaffe-prone Vice President Joe Biden backtracked yesterday from comments he made at a Democratic fund-raiser in Manhattan that were widely viewed as an endorsement of Gov. Paterson’s re-election. [snip] Speaking of Paterson Monday night, the loose-lipped Biden said, “Your once and future governor of the | Read More »
Senator Gillibrand gives the 9/11 Troofers some agitprop.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | June 2nd at 09:45 PM |
This only encourages them. On the other hand, her party does have a problem with this sort of thing, and I guess that she may need the campaign contributions for next year after all – so now would be a good time to reach out to the base. But really, madam: Infowars? Moe Lane PS: The New York Observer: “The video is already in wide | Read More »
Andrew Cuomo still not running for NY Governor.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | June 1st at 03:07 PM |
If the last month should have done anything, it should have caused NY State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to at least re-evaluate his decision not to challenge current Governor David Paterson for the job. Since then, Paterson’s numbers have stayed awful: 19% from Marist, 28% from Quinnipac, 18% from Siena. The consensus is that Giuliani beats Paterson; Cuomo beats Paterson; and that Cuomo beats Giuliani. | Read More »
The President roils the NY-SEN race.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 26th at 10:16 AM |
The White House decided to make personally certain that an unelected New York Senator with publicly-stated views on gun control and immigration contrary to the rest of her party was not challenged in the primary by a solidly-liberal Representative who is well respected in his caucus. This has caused a good deal of tension in the rest of the New York delegation: Confusion, conflict mar | Read More »
Billionaire NY Independence Party founder fleeing Democrat NY for GOP Florida.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 16th at 06:26 PM |
Apparently, $1 million more a year was $1 million too much: BILLIONAIRE GOLISANO FLEES NY OVER TAX ALBANY — New York billionaire Tom Golisano is taking his big bucks elsewhere. Furious over a new “millionaire’s tax” that could cost him an extra $1 million this year, the Rochester-area resident and three-time gubernatorial candidate says he’s fleeing the state for Florida’s Gulf Coast. Golisano called it | Read More »
Three House Democrats eye Gillibrand’s, each other’s, back.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 13th at 11:22 PM |
This is funny for two reasons: Three Potential Challengers Jointly Rap Gillibrand on Guns The three House Democrats who are talking openly of challenging Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) next year joined together Wednesday to tout gun control legislation that they said highlights the appointed Senator’s shaky record on the issue. Reps. Carolyn McCarthy, Carolyn Maloney and Steve Israel teamed up for a Capitol Hill news | Read More »
Senator Chuck Schumer: pandemic funding ‘little porky things.*’
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | April 27th at 01:00 PM |
[UPDATE]: And I thought that I was being harsh. Back in the day, Senator Schumer bragged about removing the funding, in fact. He thought that it was “bipartisan.” He said the compromise hammered out between Senate Democrats and moderate Republicans – which has enough support to get it past any threat of a filibuster – was far better than that passed by the House on | Read More »
Carolyn McCarthy (D, NY-04): PMA Porker.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | April 7th at 07:08 PM |
I mention this not so much because she’s unique – she isn’t, especially among Democrats – but because she has her eye on higher office these days. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) has made it clear that she may launch a primary challenge against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), whom McCarthy deems too conservative to represent one of the most liberal states in the country. But McCarthy | Read More »

Appeals to the grassroots: NY-20, IL-05.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | April 2nd at 07:21 AM |
NY-20: The recount for this race – which is actually at plus 25 right now, not plus 57 – is going to be expensive. There’s a new pledge drive up to pay for that recount, in the same style as the one that gathered over 120K for Jim Tedisco: I encourage people to help out there, or where they can. It’s already at 9K (the | Read More »
Recap of the NY-20 race.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | March 31st at 10:12 PM |
Scott Murphy (D) is ahead by 65 votes. Nobody’s calling this race just yet. There are somewhere between six and ten thousand absentee ballots that need to be counted. They’re not being counted tonight. They’re not being counted for another week. (Via AoSHQ) You see, we do, in fact, actually learn from our mistakes. The deadline for overseas absentee ballots is actually April 13th. All | Read More »
The NY-20 special election is tomorrow.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | March 30th at 01:00 PM |
And it will be close. I’m thinking that it’s a squeaker for Tedisco, unless of course this particular ad: …clarifies matters for NY-20. Also: it’d be nice if Tedisco broke 120K online, huh? contribute: Crossposted to Moe Lane.
New York to tax top earners.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | March 29th at 11:36 AM |
To sum up the New York Times article: New York Democrats in the Assembly have come to an agreement with New York Democrats in the Senate and the New York Democrat in the Governor’s office to raise state taxes on all incomes above $300,000/year. This is felt to be the best way to handle the looming 3.2 billion deficit in taxes from the previous projected | Read More »
NY-20 update: an endorsement and a removal.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | March 26th at 05:04 PM |
The New York Post has announced for Tedisco, citing his experience over Scott Murphy, Tedisco’s better ideological fit to this district, Tedisco’s record of fiscal restraint, and – interestingly – Murphy’s refusal to support the death penalty for even 9/11 terrorists. And in other news, the Libertarian candidate has been disqualified for the second election cycle running from being on the ballot. Problems with the | Read More »
There’s a week to go until NY-20.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | March 25th at 11:00 AM |
They had a debate last night, where Tedisco hit Murphy over the ‘stimulus’ bill that the former opposes and the latter supports. Congressional Democrats are hungry for this race, no matter that Obama/DNC (I repeat myself) don’t want to get involved. contribute: We’re making the Democratic Party spend money on a race that their own ideology says that they should be winning handily, and they’re | Read More »
Poughkeepsie Journal endorses Jim Tedisco (R Cand, NY-20) for Congress.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | March 23rd at 09:28 AM |
The Poughkeepsie Journal – which endorsed Obama for President – has endorsed Jim Tedisco for next week’s special election: The 20th Congressional District seat – which includes much of northern Dutchess County – has been without a representative for about two months now. In many ways, this could not have come at a worse time. With the economy teetering, Congress has been moving at a | Read More »
Gov. Paterson (D-NY): AIG Contribution not related to AIG rescue.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | March 23rd at 09:00 AM |
Good thing that he cleared that up: AIG’s $100G donation to Democrats was unknown to Gov. Paterson, he says Gov. Paterson stuck to his guns Saturday, insisting he knew nothing about a $100,000 donation from AIG to the state Democratic Party days before his office helped save the insurance giant. State Republicans charged the Democrats with stonewalling an investigation into the Aug. 29 donation, uncovered | Read More »

Yes, yes, I know: NAFTA’s supposed to prevent that sort of thing, but we’re having one anyway: Ricardo Alday, spokesman for the Mexican Embassy in Washington said pressuring politicians by hitting imports from states with key Democratic leaders with tariffs of up to 90 percent “is one the main considerations,” for the action, the Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday. Scott Murphy (D Cand, NY-20): ‘One of them.’
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | March 19th at 07:51 AM |
Jim Tedisco reminds us that Murphy may have an inclination towards giving bonuses to companies losing money… …although that may not be an entirely fair comparison. After all, back then Murphy’s bonus scheme didn’t involve your money. I wonder if he’s still for passing that miscalled “stimulus” bill – Tedisco is on the record as opposing it, mind you – and I wonder if Murphy | Read More »
Why is Scott Murphy (D Cand, NY-20) soliciting $4,800 contributions?
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | March 18th at 09:28 AM |
Here’s the screenshot, taken this morning: As you can clearly see, he’s still asking for campaign contributions for both the primary and general election… even though the primary is over. There are rules about maximum donations, and he’s violating them. The regulating agency for this one is the FEC, not the NY State Board of Elections: unfortunately, they only take notarized letters (info on how | Read More »
