Jason Altmire (D, PA-04): pro-life? Pro-choice? Try ‘pro-keeping his seat.’
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | April 9th at 04:00 PM |
You have to wonder whether the Online Left finds equivocators like Rep. Jason Altmire (D, PA-04) as insulting as we do (not that progressives have the courage to call their own hypocrites out, of course). Let me set the background: in 2010 Altmire did his level best to look like a mighty pro-life champion, largely because he was running for re-election in a R+6 district | Read More »
Analyzing the new Pennsylvania district map.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | December 14th at 03:00 PM |
The new redrawn Pennsylvania Congressional map is out, and it’s… well. If you ever wondered whether elections have consequences, then wonder no more. Executive summary: two of the least powerful PA Democratic Congressmen have been thrown into Thunderdome and told to fight each other; the other five PA Democrats have been, ah, reassured that their seats are safe; and the nine PA Republicans have had | Read More »
PA-12 special election today.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 18th at 07:55 AM |
Also the Pennsylvania, [Arkansas,] and Kentucky primaries, but hold that thought for a moment. There is a special election today between Tim Burns and Mark Critz. The Republican candidate is fighting a two-to-one registration advantage, a contested primary on the other side scheduled to boost the other side’s turnout, and a media environment that will grudgingly score a Republican win while eagerly waiting to score | Read More »
Two days out on PA-12.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 16th at 10:36 PM |
Finally got notified of the PPP poll for PA-12: 48/47 Burns/Critz. There’s been very little movement in the race since PPP polled it a month ago. The main difference is that negative campaigning has driven up both candidates’ negatives by 10-11 points. Where Burns’ favorability was a net +19 in April it’s now just +8. And where Critz was previously at a net +7 it’s | Read More »
Final Weekend – Tim Burns (R CAND, PA-12).

Have you geared up for Tuesday yet? (H/T: The Other McCain) If not: well, get your game face on. Go here to help. Moe Lane
Eight days and counting on PA-12.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 10th at 09:49 PM |
Mike Pence went to PA-12 today to help Tim Burns. Can you help Tim, too? Remember: this is a district that the Democrats cannot afford to lose. And they know it. And they will hate losing it on the 18th. But only if we keep up the pressure.
PMA trying to retain lease on PA-12?
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | April 26th at 09:00 PM |
In the course of noting that former Murtha crony Mark Critz received 52% of his first-quarter contributions from “[d]efense contractors, local business officers and lobbyists that relied on earmarked federal contracts from Murtha” the Washington Post notes this interesting little detail: Four former lobbyists of the PMA Group, a once-powerful lobbying shop, also chipped in to elect Critz. Murtha arranged for his spending panel to | Read More »
PA-12: Burns/Critz 44/41 (PPP).
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | April 20th at 12:00 PM |
How awkward for the Democrats. Buoyed by an electorate that is exceptionally sour on national Democrats, Republican Tim Burns has a 44-41 lead over Democrat Mark Critz in the special election to replace John Murtha in the House. [snip] …Burns is winning over 22% of the Democratic vote compared to Critz’s 10% of the Republican vote. Burns also has a 51-31 lead with independents, although | Read More »

Rep. Jack Murtha (D, PA) looking for a soft place to land?
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | December 17th at 03:00 PM |
Mayyyyybe: Rep. John Murtha’s (D-Pa.) campaign has asked the Democrats’ reelection arm to write a memo detailing how he can use funds in his campaign account if he retires. [snip] The office acknowledged asking the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) for the advice, but explained that it did so only in response to a constituent who assumed that members could put their remaining campaign funds | Read More »
Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D, PA-11) babbles about maglev trains.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | July 14th at 09:25 PM |
Well, first he was babbling about how nobody expected unemployment to get this high, and how he didn’t vote for the stimulus because it wasn’t big enough, and then he got into the entire maglev thing… anyway, I’ve cut up and laid out the relevant bits. It needs a soundtrack, but I couldn’t think of anything that would mix nonsensical and doom-laden well enough. You | Read More »
Murtha (D, PA-12) client indicted for taking kickbacks.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | July 7th at 09:25 PM |
(Via The American Thinker, via Instapundit) The bolded part is the part that you want your eyes to linger over. Ex-contractor with Murtha ties charged over kickbacks Federal prosecutors in Pittsburgh have charged a former executive for a defense contractor with ties to Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) with taking nearly $200,000 in kickbacks from a subcontractor. Richard Ianieri, former president and CEO of Coherent Systems | Read More »
Jack Murtha (D-PA) gets a primary opponent.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 28th at 08:29 AM |
I was first tipped off to this by the NRCC’s blog: Jack Murtha is going to have a primary opponent. For those who were wondering: Murtha did not have a primary opponent in 2008. Or 2006. Or 2004*. You have to go back to 2002 to see the last time that anybody tried to challenge him, in fact. From the Post-Gazette’s blog: Today, former naval | Read More »
Jack Murtha (D, PA-12) Claims Constitutional right to trade earmarks for donations.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | March 19th at 09:00 AM |
Okinawa Jack seems very, very defensive in this article (H/T: Instapundit): Murtha defends statement The region’s outspoken congressman is in the national lens again – this time CBS News television cameras – in a report Wednesday that calls him “the king of earmarks who wastes a lot of taxpayer money” and implies that the FBI is investigating. U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Johnstown, responded by waving | Read More »

The Inevitable SNL Biden/Murtha Skit Post.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | October 26th at 07:40 AM |
That was what made me decide to front this SNL skit involving Murtha/Biden (via AoSHQ). It’s by no means a game-changer – more of a admission of the damage that these two have already done for their candidate – but it’s funny, which is enough for a lazy Sunday morning. Now let’s just see if it loads… UPDATE from Soren: Go help Bill Russell retire | Read More »
The New Okinawa Jack Murtha ad.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | September 15th at 08:22 AM |
To my knowledge, this… man… has never apologized and never retracted for his Haditha comments, so may he be judged by the words that he has said: (H/T Hot Air) Are you tired of having this man in Congress? Are you just fundamentally weary of wincing at his words? Then go here. For that matter, the NRCC could use the help, too.
Bill Russell may be giving Okinawa Jack a *race*, here. [UPDATED]
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | July 22nd at 10:39 AM |
{UPDATE}: Got off the phone with the Russell campaign. They’re reporting that they currently have $270K cash-on-hand, with their expenditures being involved with ballot access (the campaign got the nomination via a write-in ballot), advertising, and direct mail. They also estimate to having had collected enough this month so far to raise their totals above 1 million. Promising news, but by all means: donate. I | Read More »
