RS Interview: Joe Rooney (R CAND, PA-13).
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | June 22nd at 01:04 PM |
PA-13 is, of course, the district of Allyson Schwartz. It’s been considered safe in the past, largely because the district hasn’t changed hands since 1988 – despite being only about D+7. Speaking frankly: I like districts like that. They’re more fun to take away from the Other Side. Particularly when we’re talking about a cipher like Schwartz. And doubly particularly when Pennsylvania is going to | Read More »
Electoral implications of the Obama Administration’s War on Coal.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 22nd at 06:30 PM |
Will this be the 2012 election map? If the Obama administration keeps up their War on Coal (literally: they consider coal more dangerous than terrorism), quite possibly. And it may be at least partially because of coal.
RS Interview: Tom Smith (R CAND, PA-SEN).
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 14th at 07:30 PM |
Pennsylvania’s going to be an interesting place this November: incumbent Senator Bob Casey is in the unenviable position of having to explain to half of his constituents why he’s not really like President Obama, while explaining to the other half why Bob Casey actually is. If you’re wondering how Senator Casey plans to square that circle; the plan is to ensure that he does not. | Read More »
Jason Altmire (D, PA-04): pro-life? Pro-choice? Try ‘pro-keeping his seat.’
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | April 9th at 04:00 PM |
You have to wonder whether the Online Left finds equivocators like Rep. Jason Altmire (D, PA-04) as insulting as we do (not that progressives have the courage to call their own hypocrites out, of course). Let me set the background: in 2010 Altmire did his level best to look like a mighty pro-life champion, largely because he was running for re-election in a R+6 district | Read More »
Analyzing the new Pennsylvania district map.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | December 14th at 03:00 PM |
The new redrawn Pennsylvania Congressional map is out, and it’s… well. If you ever wondered whether elections have consequences, then wonder no more. Executive summary: two of the least powerful PA Democratic Congressmen have been thrown into Thunderdome and told to fight each other; the other five PA Democrats have been, ah, reassured that their seats are safe; and the nine PA Republicans have had | Read More »
Mike Doyle (D, PA-14) backtracks on ‘terrorist’ comments.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | August 3rd at 09:30 AM |
Alternate title: Politically flabby Democrat (in comfortably Democratic seat) suddenly remembers that home state is losing a Congressional District; and that the redistricting process is fully in the hands of the other party*. Which is probably too long a title, at that. Anyway, Mikey Doyle is very, very sorry that the Tea Party thought that he was talking about them when he started spouting off | Read More »
RS Interview: State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R, PA-12).
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | April 19th at 03:00 PM |
State Representative Daryl Metcalfe is one of the state legislators behind the Pennsylvania Open Workforce Initiative, which is a set of four bills designed to essentially transform Pennsyvlania into a Right-to-Work state (you can see a summary of the bills here). Rep. Metcalfe has been pushing for this elementary bit of labor union reform for some time; only usually not when both the governorship and | Read More »
Scott Ott (R) running for Lehigh County Commissioner.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | April 19th at 11:00 AM |
This would be the Scott Ott of Scrappleface and PJTV: you might remember that he ran for Lehigh County Executive (Pennsylvania) last year, and came pretty close to winning. He’s running for Lehigh County Commissioner this year; there are several seats up, so Scott’s part of a team this time. Their goal is to put enough Republicans on the Commission to override the county Executive’s | Read More »
Meet Mike Fitzpatrick (R CAND, PA-08).
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | October 21st at 10:00 PM |
Mike is running against Patrick Murphy, and by ‘running against’ I mean ‘beating.’ Still, that’s why we have elections and races, and we talked about both today: Mike’s site is here. Moe Lane (crosspost)
State of the Race: Pat Toomey (R CAND, PA-SEN).
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | October 21st at 02:30 PM |
With less than two weeks to go and tightening polls, we decided to check in with Pat Toomey on how the Senate race was going. Short version: well, but this is no time to stop now. Pat’s site is here. Moe Lane (crosspost)
Cameraman attacked at Sestak rally.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | October 6th at 10:00 PM |
They’re getting scared, and when people get scared, stupid things get done. In this case, a guy filming a Joe Sestak rally got, as NRO’s Battle ’10 put it, “Harassed, Intimidated, Potentially Assaulted:” Looks like somebody picked up the camera and tossed it to the ground… and on a tactical note? This is precisely why YOU ALWAYS WORK IN TEAMS OF AT LEAST TWO. One | Read More »
John Callahan (D CAND, PA-15) Question video surfaces.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | August 31st at 10:28 AM |
People may remember that back in July a report came out asking what role Democratic candidate John Callahan (mayor of Bethlehem, PA) had in the investigation of a 2007 Superbowl weekend car accident involving Callahan’s brother-in-law Dino Cantelmi. The accident involved Cantelmi going down the wrong way on a one-way street and smacking into a police cruiser, sending the patrolman in it to the hospital; | Read More »
John Callahan (D CAND, PA-15) coverup?
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | July 23rd at 01:00 PM |
Callahan is running against Charlie Dent, in one of the seven races where the idea of a Democratic upset is not automatically a cause for derisive laughter (note that I’m not extending that to Cook’s eleven Likely Republican Republican-held seats). Callahan’s nonetheless probably doomed anyway (this is a bad year to be a Democratic challenger), but before he goes away it’d be great if this | Read More »
Paul Kanjorski (D, PA-11) is a racist fool.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | June 24th at 08:00 AM |
As a title, it is perhaps unsubtle: but since he is going around saying things like this… “We’re giving relief to people that I deal with in my office every day now unfortunately. But because of the longevity of this recession, these are people — and they’re not minorities and they’re not defective and they’re not all the things you’d like to insinuate that these | Read More »
Le Affaire Sestak: It’s the he-campaigned-on-it, stupid.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 30th at 08:26 AM |
(H/T: Hot Air Headlines) I refuse to believe that Eric Alterman is dumb enough to not know the answer to the questions: Why in the world did he go blabbing about it? What did he possibly think he had to gain? …if only because his essay* rather conspicuously danced around even trying to work out a rationale – which is odd, because said rationale is | Read More »
PA-12 special election today.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 18th at 07:55 AM |
Also the Pennsylvania, [Arkansas,] and Kentucky primaries, but hold that thought for a moment. There is a special election today between Tim Burns and Mark Critz. The Republican candidate is fighting a two-to-one registration advantage, a contested primary on the other side scheduled to boost the other side’s turnout, and a media environment that will grudgingly score a Republican win while eagerly waiting to score | Read More »
Two days out on PA-12.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 16th at 10:36 PM |
Finally got notified of the PPP poll for PA-12: 48/47 Burns/Critz. There’s been very little movement in the race since PPP polled it a month ago. The main difference is that negative campaigning has driven up both candidates’ negatives by 10-11 points. Where Burns’ favorability was a net +19 in April it’s now just +8. And where Critz was previously at a net +7 it’s | Read More »
Final Weekend – Tim Burns (R CAND, PA-12).

Eight days and counting on PA-12.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 10th at 09:49 PM |
Mike Pence went to PA-12 today to help Tim Burns. Can you help Tim, too? Remember: this is a district that the Democrats cannot afford to lose. And they know it. And they will hate losing it on the 18th. But only if we keep up the pressure.
Rasmussen: Sestak/Specter 47/42.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 10th at 10:31 AM |
Nobody loves a turncoat. Congressman Joe Sestak has moved ahead of incumbent Arlen Specter in their Senate primary match-up with just over a week left before Pennsylvania Democrats go to the polls to pick their nominee. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely Democratic Primary voters in the state shows Sestak earning 47% of the vote while Specter picks up 42%. This marks the | Read More »
