Democrats pass on chance to neutralize Cardinal Dolan appearance at RNC.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | August 24th at 09:30 AM |
You’d think that somebody would have jumped on Timothy Cardinal Dolan’s offer, given that the cardinal’s agreement to offer a prayer at the RNC was a pretty big deal. Dolan runs the Archdiocese of New York, as well as the Conference of Catholic Bishops. If you need to know what that means, in practical terms, that’s actually easy to show: he’s the equivalent of this | Read More »
RedState Gathering: Reince Priebus, Sharon Day.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | August 6th at 10:00 PM |
A couple of videos, bundled together: we had both RNC Co-chair Sharon Day and RNC Chair Reince Priebus speaking at the RedState Gathering. Both took a moment to speak to me later: Sharon Day Reince Priebus By the way: I am not claiming that Reince was energized enough by the RedState Gathering to go out the next day to the Sunday morning talk shows and | Read More »
“Whose side are you on?”
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | August 1st at 11:00 PM |
I laughed like a loon when I finally figured out what was tickling me about this – quite good – RNC print ad (H/T Jim Geraghty): I knew that they had gotten a line in that from somewhere, but I couldn’t remember where. And then it hit me: Pete Seeger.
American Crossroads translates Obama’s Ohio speech!
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | June 15th at 09:30 AM |
I managed to hold out until :38… …but “Vote for me, or you’ll probably die” was just too much funny, in one place. This is turning out to be a great election cycle. Well, it’s great for me, and it looks like that it’s great for American Crossroads. Democratic groups that are perhaps not used to being on the receiving end of well-made mockery? Possibly | Read More »
Romney/RNC almost catches up with Obama/DNC in April.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 17th at 11:30 AM |
The New York Times reported this morning that the combined raised total for Romney and the RNC was $40.1 million in April, with Romney having $61.4 million in the bank: in comparison, Obama/the DNC raised $43.6 million. Barack Obama’s own cash on hand for April – it was $104.1 million at the end of March – and we probably won’t be told it until the | Read More »
CPAC 2011: Saul Anuzis.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | February 12th at 01:56 PM |
Saul is an old friend of RedState, and is rumored to be running for Senate next year. As you can see, he’s not really authoritatively denying that. Moe Lane (crosspost)
CPAC 2011: Sharon Day.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | February 11th at 10:30 PM |
Sharon is a new co-chair of the RNC, and was more than happy to talk about the way that procedures were going to be different than those of the old RNC. …and that’s all for tonight, I think. Moe Lane (crosspost)
Will Michael Steele not seek re-election?
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | December 12th at 03:00 PM |
There is a good deal of evidence suggesting it – Michael Steele is not canvassing for support, has no team in place to help him get re-elected RNC chair, and will have a conference call on Monday that many think will have his announcement that he won’t seek re-election – but at best it’s a suggestion, not a fact. Given the fiscal difficulties that the | Read More »
Reviewing the December Fundraising Numbers.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | February 2nd at 12:17 PM |
It’s that time again. Short version: RNC above DNC, DNC took a big cash on hand hit, NRSC over DSCC in the biggest shocker, NRCC/DCCC more or less the same, DCCC has a big CoH advantage, and blessed if I know how much any of this means, post-Citizens’ United and post-Brown. Raised CoH Debts RNC 6.84 8.42 0.00 DNC 4.54 8.67 4.69 NRSC 4.10 8.30 | Read More »
Daily Caller looks at Brandon Darby.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 13th at 08:29 AM |
Interesting article here from the Daily Caller on Brandon Darby, who people might remember as being the former fringe-left activist who helped the FBI shut down a domestic terrorist cell planning to murder people at the Republican national convention. For this act of elementary patriotism and decency he has, of course, been vilified (the woman mentioned in passing as being arrested for making death threats | Read More »
Reviewing the September fundraising numbers.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | October 20th at 11:00 PM |
It’s that time again. Short version: RNC beat DNC, but DSCC & DCCC significantly outraised their counterparts – sufficiently so that the Democrats raised more overall for the month. When debt is factored in, the Democrats also went from being significantly behind on cash-on-hand to being slightly ahead. That being said: the RNC and NRCC are both reporting significant increases in small-person donors. Raised CoH | Read More »
Reviewing the August Fundraising numbers.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | September 19th at 07:06 PM |
Wouldn’t you know it: I decide not to do anything consequential and the fundraising numbers become available. Short version: the GOP out-raised the Democrats for the first time since April; the NRSC beat out the DSCC for the second month; the NRCC continues to stay essentially tied with the DCCC; and the Democrats aren’t paying their debt down. Raised CoH Debts RNC 7.87 20.97 0.00 | Read More »
Steele to Democrats: You have the votes, and you won, remember?
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | August 21st at 10:00 AM |
So stop wasting everybody’s time with pretending that you want Republicans for anything but cover and pass your cursed health care rationing bill. Actually, that’s pretty much what he said: Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele on Thursday dared Democrats to try a one-party push to overhaul the nation’s health care system. Steele told reporters that he thinks if Democratic senators think they have the | Read More »
Reviewing the July Fundraising numbers.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | August 20th at 05:49 PM |
Short version: Democrats had a good month for the DNC – they beat out the RNC for a change – which was enough to let them end with a edge in amount raised and total cash-on-hand of a couple million. Fortunately, July fundraising for the congressional and senatorial committees was not a repeat of June’s: despite their having a significant edge in membership, the DSCC | Read More »
Reviewing the June fundraising numbers.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | July 20th at 09:00 PM |
Short version: the Democrats had a good month in their Congressional/Senatorial Committee fundraising (double their previous month’s totals, as well as double their Republican counterparts); the RNC is back to outraising the DNC; cash on hand is at parity, except that the GOP is running with a debt that’s 1/10th of their total and the Democrats are running with one that’s half; and this is | Read More »
New RNC Ad: “Nothing.”
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | July 10th at 08:22 AM |
The RNC has decided to get in a kick or two: …presumably on the principle that you never let a good dip in the polls go to waste. Based on the length, this looks like a web ad, which means… actually, the jury is still out on how effective web ads are. They’re certainly more cost-effective, but the dispute is on what their real reach | Read More »
Reviewing the May fundraising numbers.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | June 19th at 10:58 PM |
Yup, it’s that time again. Short version: the DNC beat the RNC last month, thanks to a Presidential fundraiser; but the NRSC actually raised more money last month than the DSCC; and the DCCC raised only about 200K more than the NRCC. While the cash-on-hand edge for the GOP is less than it was last month’s, it’s because the Democrats are still not retiring their | Read More »
Reviewing the April fundraising numbers.

Short version: the DNC kept quiet about its fundraising for a reason; the NRSC & DSCC remain tied in their ability to bring in cash; the DCCC is underperforming; and that debt problem is still looming for the Democrats. OK, it looks like all the numbers are in. Very shortly: it’s good news for the GOP, with the partial exception of the NRCC. RNC/DNC, February (Via Hot Air) The RNC raised 5.10 million, has 24 million cash-on-hand, and no debt. The DNC raised 3.26 million, has 8.6 million cash-on-hand, and has 6.9 million in debt. NRSC/DSCC, February The RSCC raised 2.87 million, has 1.05 million cash-on-hand, and has 2.7 million in debt (drawn | Read More »
