RS Q&A: Gov. Bobby Jindal, on the Medicaid expansion.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | July 5th at 03:30 PM |
I was on a conference call today with Governor Bobby Jindal and former Governor Tim Pawlenty; they are both currently on a bus tour of Pennsylvania and Ohio for the benefit of the Romney campaign. We had an opportunity to ask questions; and, seeing as these two states are both Republican-controlled (due at least in part to the 2010 backlash against Obamacare), I asked Governor | Read More »
BREAKING: Pawlenty to drop out of race.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | August 14th at 09:56 AM |
It’s being reported that Governor Tim Pawlenty will drop his Presidential bid, in light of his third-place showing at yesterday’s Ames Straw Poll. There’s no official confirmation yet, but that’s just a formality. I’m on the way out the door to catch a flight home from the RedState Gathering, so my brief take on this: with Pawlenty leaving we’re back down to three real candidates | Read More »
Tim Pawlenty repeats call to hang tough on debt ceiling.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | July 15th at 11:00 AM |
It’s hardly a surprise – Pawlenty has been arguing since January that automatically raising the debt ceiling without exhausting other options (read: spending cuts) first is a bad idea – but the video below shows that the former Governor of Minnesota continues to want Republican legislators to not back down on this issue: As GOP 12 noted, this statement by Pawlenty… Now is the time. | Read More »
Two good pickups for Tim Pawlenty.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | June 9th at 02:07 PM |
In the endorsement wars, we have one formal one, and one all-but-one. Both were probably about equally welcome to Pawlenty. The formal one was Republican Congressman Joe Wilson of South Carolina: it’s notable both for the person (Rep. Wilson is rather well-liked in conservative circles for pointing out for the record that President Obama is a liar) and the location (South Carolina is an early | Read More »
Tim Pawlenty calls Barack Obama a doofus.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 31st at 12:00 PM |
It’s amusing how casually this was tossed out. Tim Pawlenty, in an ABC interview – and in the process of restraining himself from rolling his eyes at Christine Amanpour’s bipartisan* fetish: I think that any doofus can go to Washington, DC and maintain the status quo or incrementally change things… [snip] ‘Doofus’ would mean someone who was relatively low-performing. It’s also amusing that there’s a | Read More »
Tim Pawlenty comes out against farm subsidies. In Iowa.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 23rd at 02:30 PM |
In his official speech kicking off his campaign: I’m here today to tell Iowans the truth, too. America is facing a crushing debt crisis the likes of which we’ve never seen before. We need to cut spending, and we need to cut it…big time. The hard truth is that there are no longer any sacred programs. The truth about federal energy subsidies, including federal subsidies | Read More »
Annnnnnd Tim Pawlenty’s in, with ‘A Time for Truth.’ [UPDATE!]
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 23rd at 09:30 AM |
[UPDATE] Whoa, whoa, WHOA. Tim Pawlenty’s going to start off his candidacy by ‘speaking truthfully about farm subsidies‘? Speaking truthfully about farm subsidies? In IOWA? Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty released this video (“A Time For Truth”) last night: …and he’s going to be formally announcing his candidacy at a town hall today in Iowa. My basic take from both the video above, and the | Read More »
Tim Pawlenty will officially be running for President tomorrow.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 22nd at 11:14 AM |
The word is that former Governor Tim Pawlenty will officially announce tomorrow in a town hall in Des Moines, Iowa; judging from his campaign videos, this will be heralded by an overflight of a squadron of F-15E Strike Eagles, an announcement that Minnesota genetic researchers have recreated the passenger pigeon, and T-Paw personally leading a mission to disable the Yellowstone super-volcano caldera before it erupts | Read More »
No, NYT: Tim Pawlenty is *not* much like John Edwards.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 6th at 02:18 PM |
I think that the Old Grey Lady may be a touch worried about the way that former governor Tim Pawlenty is handling his awkward past support of job-killing cap-and-trade schemes: …Mr. Pawlenty looked right at the camera after the radio ad played, apologized to the American people, and said he had made a “mistake.” “I’ve said I was wrong. It was a mistake, and I’m | Read More »
Tim Pawlenty and the Tea Party.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | May 4th at 12:16 PM |
Interesting post here about Tim Pawlenty and the Tea Party: A two-term governor who typically emphasizes substance over style, Pawlenty has long been setting the groundwork to run a conventional campaign. He carries many of the calling cards of the kind of “safe” GOP candidates who have, in every presidential election of the modern era, beaten back challenges from grassroots favorites who eventually fizzled out | Read More »
The Obama Facebook thing today.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | April 20th at 11:29 AM |
Let’s establish something, right from the start *. Tim Pawlenty has a reason besides the stated one in calling for submissions for awkward questions to ask President Obama at today’s gelded Facebook ‘event.’ For those who don’t know, the President is using Facebook to… use Facebook, apparently. Shows that the President’s hip to this entire social media thing, because nothing shouts ‘responsive’ and ‘new media’ | Read More »
The Quiet Man.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | April 12th at 03:04 PM |
My friend and RS colleague Erick Erickson has just put up a post noting that former Governor Tim Pawlenty has picked up a top-notch campaign manager in Nick Ayers. Erick rightly notes that this is a strong indicator that you have to take Pawlenty seriously as a Presidential candidate; Ayers was actively courted by everybody, and it’s unlikely that he’d sign on with a campaign | Read More »
Tim Pawlenty’s new, entertaining, campaign ad.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | April 4th at 09:53 AM |
(H/T: @jaketapper) Tim Pawlenty’s got a new campaign ad out (“A New Direction“) in response to the President’s formal announcement that he’s running again; and it features… Paul Krugman. Paul Krugman, criticizing Washington for giving up on jobs. I don’t care who you are: that’s just funny, right there. If you’ve lost Paul Krugman… Moe Lane (crosspost) PS: Tim Pawlenty’s site is here. PPS: Also: | Read More »
Tim Pawlenty to make 3PM Facebook announcement…
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | March 21st at 12:08 PM |
…I can’t begin to imagine what it could possibly be. Seriously, at this point in the game Governor Pawlenty’s my first choice: he’s got the right credentials (two-term Republican governor in a Blue State), there’s no scandal attached to him, his major problem policy-wise (cap-and-trade) is not really a game-breaker for me*, and he lacks drama. I am done with drama, thank you. I’m putting | Read More »
Pawlenty skips SRLC for MN NG troop return.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | March 24th at 04:57 PM |
Well, this is gratifyingly not 2012-related: Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty will miss a major Republican gathering next month of possible 2012 GOP presidential contenders and instead will attend a welcome home ceremony for troops returning from Iraq, a Pawlenty spokesman tells CNN. The two-term Minnesota governor, who is considering a bid for his party’s presidential nomination in the next election, was scheduled to attend the | Read More »
CPAC 2010: Three minutes with T-Paw.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | February 24th at 04:00 PM |
Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota was swinging through Bloggers’ Row there, so of course we had to chat. Nice guy; very centered. I was trying to think of some way of saying that I’m sorry that my little bit of extra monopolization of the Governor’s time was an inconvenience to a couple of staffers (I know some of those people, after all) without saying I’m | Read More »
