Leadership in the New Congress

The most important thing that will happen when a split congress comes together in 2011 is the selection of leadership positions.  It’s easy to shift your attention from the Senate and Congressional races that just concluded to the Presidential election of 2012.  Not so fast!

The most important vote that the new congress will begin with is the selection of leadership positions.  With Mike Pence stepping down to apparently make a run for the Presidency the position of Majority Whip is wide open.  Will the “Party” choose the usual suspects or will they embrace the conservative movement that has energized the country with bold new members?  Read up on it and get involved.  The fight is not over.

Here is a left leaning article on the topic.  What do you think?

In the Senate I would like to see someone other than Senator Cornyn lead the NRSCC. It is probably a dream to think that Senator DeMint could convince Senate Republicans to let him have a shot at it, but it won’t keep me from suggesting it to Senators Lugar and Coats.

As NRSC leader he would bring the direction that would allow states to have a say in the process and allow grass roots efforts to have some input instead of buttout.

I point to the State of Maine that has two of the worst Senators in the Senate. In Maine this cycle many new faces appear in the state legislature a new Republican legislature. Someone with an understanding of this new American vision of a Republic Revival will emerge as the most viable choice for the next Senator from Maine. And her name ain’t Snowe!

I am pretty sure that the NRSC is committed to backing the incumbent Republicans in all races. Additionally, I do not think voting out Olympia Snowe is a good idea, it is doubtful at best that a better person can win in Maine. Also, there are much better targets – Bob Corker (TN), Dick Lugar (IN), Orrin Hatch (UT), Roger Wicker (MS).

One of the biggest accomplishments that the conservative resurgence through Tea Party and Right Republicans achieved was the dismanteling of the RINO republic within the Republican Party. Christine O’Donnell did not win her race but she did dump a sympathertic liberal in elephant’s clothing in the primary. The current holder of the seat runs again in two years. With the Democrats still in power and the Senators you mentioned still willing to compromise our priciples without fighting for our values the electorate’s mood in 2012 will be similar to 2010.

Don’t be surprised to see Maine turn on their senators. They just elected a Republican govenor and legislature.
